SIZING GUIDES

By Ella Blake  |  Tellar Fashion Hub

Abadia runs on US sizing — so as a UK shopper, your size at Abadia is typically two sizes up from your usual US label. In plain terms: if you're a UK 10, you'll need a size M. That's the short answer. But stick with me, because Abadia's sizing has a few quirks worth knowing before you click "add to basket" on something you genuinely won't want to return.

I first came across Abadia a couple of years ago when a friend turned up to dinner in the most effortlessly beautiful linen co-ord I'd ever seen. Founded by Saudi designer Shahd AlShehail, the brand draws on Arabian Peninsula craftsmanship — and the result is clothing that feels genuinely considered. Relaxed, feminine, slightly architectural. The kind of pieces you reach for again and again. But beautiful as they are, sizing didn't exactly click for me immediately. I sized down like I do with some European brands and lived to regret it. (The trousers looked great lying flat. On me, less so.)

So — let's save you the same bother.

Understanding Abadia's Size System

Abadia uses US sizing with an XS–XL range. Here's the full conversion table, including UK sizes:

Quick rule of thumb: take your standard UK size, subtract four, and that's your US/Abadia numeric size. Or simply use the table above — and cross-reference with your actual measurements for the best result.

Does Abadia Run True to Size?

Largely, yes — but with one important note. Because the brand uses US sizing as its base, UK customers often find the fit slightly more generous through the hips and waist than comparable European luxury brands. The silhouettes are also designed with ease and drape in mind, so fitted pieces aren't really part of Abadia's DNA anyway.

  • Dresses and kaftans: Generally true to size or even slightly roomy — this is by design. The brand's signature relaxed silhouette means you should size as normal. If you're between sizes, go down.

  • Tops: True to size. The structured Mona Shirt in particular fits fairly precisely — I'd suggest checking your bust measurement against the chart above before ordering.

  • Trousers and skirts: These are where people trip up. Abadia trousers tend to have a higher, snugger waistband relative to the hip. If you carry more volume at the hip, size up and belt or tailor the waist. It's worth it — the fabric quality justifies the effort.

  • Farwas and layering pieces: These are intentionally oversized and fluid. Sizing down here is usually fine.

My Top Tips for Getting the Fit Right

Here's what I wish someone had told me before that first order:

  • Always measure your hips. Seriously. Abadia cuts beautifully through the body but the hip allowance in the trouser range can be tighter than the bust/waist suggests. A tape measure is your best friend here.

  • Check the fabric content per piece. Abadia uses linen, cotton and silk blends — all of which behave slightly differently. Linen has virtually no give; silk drapes generously. Bear this in mind.

  • Contact customer service before returning. The brand's team is genuinely helpful on sizing queries — email them with your measurements and they'll advise. Far better than the guesswork.

  • If you're between sizes, trust the drape. Abadia themselves say: consider how you'd like the garment to fall and go from there. For flowing dresses and skirts, the larger size will give a more luxurious look. For tailored pieces, size down.

  • Factor in the artisan detailing. Embroidery, hand-finishing and structural stitching can affect where a garment sits on the body. Check product images carefully for fit cues.

What to Wear Abadia With — and Where Else to Shop

Abadia's aesthetic sits in that luxurious but unpretentious sweet spot — which means it plays beautifully with both investment pieces and smart high street finds. Here's how I'd mix it:

  • COS — The most natural companion to Abadia's sensibility. COS's architectural, neutral separates work brilliantly layered under or over an Abadia piece. Sizing runs true to UK standard, so no conversion faff.

  • Massimo Dutti — For elevated basics that hold their own next to Abadia's craftsmanship. Their tailoring is particularly strong and runs consistently across European sizes.

  • Whistles — A brilliant British go-to for smart, unfussy pieces that complement Abadia's aesthetic without competing. Whistles runs true to UK size throughout.

  • Me&Em — A favourite for when you want something polished but relaxed. Their jersey and cotton pieces layer perfectly with Abadia's flowing silhouettes and the quality feels proportionate to the price point.

  • Anthropologie — If you love Abadia's artisan detailing, Anthropologie is a natural place to keep browsing. Embroidered blouses, textured fabrics, eclectic prints. Sizing is US-based here too, so the same conversion logic applies.

  • Reiss — For the occasional sharp contrast: a structured Reiss blazer over an Abadia kaftan dress is, frankly, a very good outfit. Reiss runs true to UK size.

  • Phase Eight — For occasion dressing that sits alongside an Abadia statement skirt or dress. Their occasion range has improved enormously and they stock a good extended size range too.

On the independent side, two brands I've been quietly devoted to lately:

  • Fanfare Label — A brilliant UK sustainable brand with a strong ethical ethos that mirrors Abadia's values perfectly. Their pieces are elevated, considered and they publish full size and fit guidance on every product. Worth bookmarking.

  • Dôen — US-based but ships to the UK and has a devoted following here. Romantic, feminine, artisan-influenced — if you love Abadia you will love Dôen. Note that Dôen also runs on US sizing, so the same conversion applies.
