How to Find Your Size in Anine Bing

Anine Bing runs small — typically one size down from your usual UK sizing — so if you're a UK 10, you'll almost certainly need a size Medium or sometimes Large in AB pieces. That's the short answer. But because her collections span everything from oversized boyfriend blazers to slim-cut leather trousers, the full picture is a little more nuanced, and I've got the detail you need to get your order right first time.
Who Is Anine Bing, and Why Does Sizing Matter So Much?
If you've been living under a rock, Anine Bing is the Copenhagen-born, LA-raised designer who has essentially codified the "effortless cool girl" wardrobe. Think rock-band tees with beautifully cut tailoring, vintage-inspired denim, slouchy camel coats, and the kind of minimalist basics that look like they cost a fortune — because they do. She's not cheap, which means getting the wrong size is painful in every sense.
I remember splurging on a pair of AB straight-leg jeans without checking properly. Gorgeous — absolutely gorgeous — but I'd ordered my standard UK 10 and couldn't get them past my hips. Live and learn. I've since become rather obsessive about the brand's sizing, and I can save you that particular heartache.
How Does Anine Bing Sizing Work?
Anine Bing uses US sizing (XS, S, M, L, XL) across most categories, with some denim styles using numerical US sizing (24, 25, 26, 27, 28 etc.). Here's how the general conversion maps out for UK women:
XS — UK 6–8 (US 0–2)
S — UK 8–10 (US 4–6)
M — UK 10–12 (US 8–10)
L — UK 14 (US 12)
XL — UK 16 (US 14)
The critical thing to know is that most reviewers — and I count myself among them — find AB cuts slim and structured. The brand uses premium fabrics that don't have a lot of give, so if you're on the cusp, size up. Always.
Category-by-Category Fit Guide
Blazers & Tailoring
This is where Anine Bing absolutely shines, and also where sizing trips people up most. Her blazers are designed to be slightly oversized in an intentional way — broad shoulders, clean lines, a strong silhouette. If you want the proper AB oversized look, go true to size. If you prefer a more fitted, borrowed-from-the-boys feel, size down. I'm a UK 10–12 and I wear a size S in her blazers for a relaxed, intentional drape. It hits differently when it fits right.
Denim
AB denim is stiff, structured, and frankly incredible quality — but it does not forgive. Her numerical sizing runs about one full size smaller than UK denim sizing. A UK 10 will typically need a 27 or 28; a UK 12 generally fits a 28 or 29. I'd also factor in the cut:
Slim and straight cuts — size up at least one
Relaxed or wide-leg cuts — you may get away with true-to-size
High-waisted styles — always check your waist measurement against the AB guide
Tops, Tees & Knitwear

Her classic logo tees, band tees and slogan tops are intentionally slim and slightly cropped. A UK 10 normally takes a size S comfortably. If you want that longer, more relaxed vintage feel, go to a M. Knitwear has a little more give — her chunky knits in particular are quite generous — but fine-gauge knits are cut close, so again, when in doubt, size up.
Leather Trousers & Skirts
Anine Bing's leather pieces are some of her most coveted, and they are absolutely unforgiving in fit. The leather doesn't stretch in. A UK 10 should be looking at a size M in leather trousers — don't let anyone tell you otherwise. Her leather skirts in particular come up very small through the hips, and I've seen countless online reviews of women having to exchange for this exact reason.
How to Measure Yourself for Anine Bing
Before you order anything, do yourself a favour and take three measurements:
Bust — measure around the fullest part of your chest
Waist — measure around your natural waist (usually the narrowest point)
Hips — measure around the fullest part of your hips, about 20cm below your waist
Then cross-reference with the AB size chart on their website. If your measurements fall between two sizes, always go with the larger — the brand's aesthetic actually looks better with a little room in the right places anyway.
Is Anine Bing Worth the Price?
Genuinely, yes — if you're investing in key pieces. Her leather trousers, long-line blazers, and classic tees are wardrobe workhorses that last for years and look better the more you wear them. But £300+ for a pair of jeans is not accessible to everyone, and I'd never pretend otherwise. Here are some brilliant alternatives that give you a similar energy at different price points:
High street picks that nail the AB aesthetic:
Massimo Dutti — arguably the best high-street match for AB's tailoring quality; their blazers are exceptional and cut beautifully
Reiss — strong on clean, structured tailoring and leather alternatives at a fraction of the price
Whistles — understated, well-made, and genuinely cool; a great source for AB-style basics
Me&Em — brilliant for quality knitwear and slim-cut denim with a similar pared-back sensibility
All Saints — if you're after the rock-and-roll leather element of AB's aesthetic, All Saints is a brilliant entry point
Cos — for clean, minimal silhouettes that echo AB's Scandi DNA without the designer price tag
Mango — especially their tailored blazers and leather-look trousers; the quality has improved enormously in recent years
Two independent labels worth knowing about:
Nili Lotan — a New York-based designer with a quietly similar cool-girl minimalism; her linen blazers and straight-leg jeans are every bit as wearable as AB at a comparable price point, but far less well known on UK shores
Toteme — Swedish minimalism at its most considered; if you love AB for the structured, European-feel pieces, Toteme will become your obsession (it already is mine)
