LK Bennett Sizing: Does It Come Up True to Size — And What Should You Know Before You Buy?

Good news: LK Bennett generally runs true to UK size, making it one of the more reliable British brands to buy online without a fitting room panic. That said, there are some important nuances depending on what you're buying — dresses, shoes, and tailored pieces all behave slightly differently — so it's worth knowing what to expect before you click purchase.
I've had a long relationship with LK Bennett. My mum had the Sledge pump in about four different colourways back in the noughties, and I've been recommending the brand to clients looking for polished, feminine pieces that actually hold up beyond one occasion ever since. It's one of those brands that feels reliably grown-up without being staid — and on sizing, mercifully, it doesn't pull the usual French designer trick of making you feel like a different species.
The General Rule: True to UK Size
For the majority of LK Bennett clothing — dresses, blouses, tailored trousers, knitwear — you can safely order your usual UK size. The brand uses standard UK sizing conventions, and their fit is designed with a British woman's proportions broadly in mind. Unlike many European designer brands, you don't need to second-guess yourself or go rummaging for a tape measure before every order.
That said, "true to size" doesn't mean "identical across all styles." LK Bennett carries everything from relaxed jersey wrap dresses to structured boucle shift dresses, and those will fit quite differently even in the same size. Context matters — more on that below.

Dresses — The Category Where It Gets Interesting
LK Bennett dresses are the hero pieces for a reason — the brand has an exceptional eye for occasion dressing that works for real events: weddings, races, corporate dinners, christenings. But not all their dresses fit identically, and this is where a bit of knowledge goes a long way.
Wrap and jersey styles are the most forgiving. They're cut with stretch and movement in mind, and most customers find them generous through the waist. If you're between sizes, size down here.
Structured shift and sheath dresses run true to size but are cut close. If you're fuller through the hips or have a more pronounced silhouette, consider going up one size — particularly in the brocade and boucle fabrications where there's zero give in the fabric.
Midi and fit-and-flare styles typically run true, but check the waist measurement carefully if you carry weight differently to a standard hourglass proportion — the waist seam placement on some styles is quite high.
Tailoring: Blazers, Trousers, Suits
LK Bennett's tailoring is one of the brand's genuine strengths — these are pieces made to look polished in a meeting and still feel appropriate for drinks afterwards. The good news is that their tailored pieces are cut consistently and run true to size. The only watch-out is across the shoulders: if you're broad-shouldered, some of their fitted blazers can feel tight across the back even when the chest measurement is fine. If that's you, always check the shoulder measurement specifically and consider going up.
What About LK Bennett Shoes?
The Sledge pump — arguably one of the most iconic British shoes of the past twenty years, worn to multiple royal weddings and by half the women in any given corporate law firm — runs true to size but is cut narrow. If you have a wide foot, size up half a size or look for the brand's wider-fit styles. The block-heeled styles and flats tend to be slightly more accommodating in width than the pointed court shoes, but as a general rule: if you're between sizes, go up with LK Bennett footwear.
Inclusive Sizing: Getting Better

LK Bennett now offers sizing up to a UK 22 across much of its range, which is a genuine step forward for a brand that historically stopped at a 16. The extended sizing has been well-received and, importantly, the larger sizes are cut proportionally rather than simply scaled up — something that genuinely sets them apart from brands that treat inclusive sizing as an afterthought.
Similar Brands to LK Bennett — Where to Shop If You Love the Aesthetic
Whether LK Bennett is a little out of budget for an everyday buy or you're just looking to build a broader wardrobe of intelligent occasionwear, here are the brands I'd point you to — organised by price tier, all chosen for their genuinely similar aesthetic rather than just being the obvious ones:
High Street & Accessible:
Jigsaw — The most natural alternative to LK Bennett at a slightly lower price. Sophisticated British tailoring, excellent dresses, a considered edit of pieces that are built to last. One of my most-recommended brands for the 35+ professional woman who wants to dress well without shouting about it.
Mint Velvet — Brilliant for the relaxed-luxe occasion piece. Where LK Bennett is crisp and polished, Mint Velvet is softer and more boho-adjacent — but the customer is very similar, and the quality is genuinely good.
Coast — The go-to for occasion dressing on a budget. The wedding guest edit in particular consistently delivers elegant pieces at a fraction of LK Bennett prices. Quality has improved significantly in recent years.
Monsoon — Brilliant for feminine prints and special occasion dresses, especially if you want something with a bit more personality and colour than LK Bennett's relatively neutral palette.
The White Company — For the wardrobe classics end of what LK Bennett does — beautifully made basics, excellent knitwear, relaxed tailoring. Less occasion-focused but shares the same commitment to quality British dressing.
Hush — The brand for when you want that same "effortlessly put-together" feel but in a more laid-back register. Brilliant knitwear, great dresses, and genuinely lovely fabrics at an honest price point.
Anthropologie — For the more romantic, occasion-focused end of the spectrum. Some of their embellished and print dresses are really exceptional for wedding guests or summer events, and they often rival LK Bennett for sheer elegance at a comparable price.
Premium:
Claudie Pierlot — The French feminine counterpart to LK Bennett. Polished, feminine, beautifully made. Slightly pricier but absolutely worth it for special pieces. (Note: sizes in EU sizing — see our sizing guide below.)
Boden — Often underrated as a premium brand. Their tailoring and occasionwear is genuinely excellent, the prints are properly considered, and the quality-to-price ratio is hard to beat.
Luxury & Designer:
Max Mara — If LK Bennett is your gateway to polished dressing, Max Mara is where that journey ends. Exceptional Italian tailoring, a masterclass in understated luxury. The coats alone justify the price tag.
Two Independent Brands You Should Know
Never Fully Dressed — A London-based independent brand that has quietly become one of the best-kept secrets in occasion dressing. Their printed midi dresses and wrap styles are exceptional quality, inclusive in sizing, and have a warmth and personality that bigger brands often lack. Genuinely brilliant for the wedding guest wardrobe.
Baukjen — A London-based sustainable womenswear brand that deserves considerably more attention than it gets. Think intelligent, polished separates made from responsible fabrics, cut for adult women who want to dress well without compromising on ethics. Very LK Bennett in spirit, minus the carbon footprint.
