The Biggest Fashion Trends for 2026 — And How to Actually Wear Them

The biggest fashion trends for 2026 are a collective exhale after years of quiet luxury, sad beige and playing it safe — and honestly, it feels like the wardrobe reset we've all been waiting for. After what felt like an eternity of muted palettes and "barely there" dressing, 2026 is swinging hard in the opposite direction. Think bold colour, rich texture, '80s-coded drama and accessories that actually make a statement. Here's what's dominating the rails, the runways and — increasingly — the streets right now.

1. The '80s Are Back — But Make It Chic

I'll be honest, when I first heard "the '80s are back" I had a small internal panic about shoulder pads and neon legwarmers. But the 2026 take on this is genuinely brilliant — it's power dressing done with real elegance. We're talking structured blazers with sculpted shoulders, dramatic funnel necks, wide-leg tailored trousers and chunky gold jewellery that means business. The Glamoratti aesthetic (Pinterest is obsessed with it right now) is about dressing like you own the room.

  • Reiss — their tailoring is excellent for this look; blazers with a defined shoulder feel very much of the moment

  • Massimo Dutti — understated luxury that pulls off the '80s silhouette without tipping into costume territory

  • Whistles — great for sleek, polished separates that have that sharp, intentional feel

2. Colour Explosion — Say Goodbye to Beige

This is the trend I am most personally thrilled about. After approximately four years of dressing like a muted Instagram filter, colour is back in a serious way. Royal purple (seen all over the Valentino S/S 26 runway), cobalt blue, cherry red and bubblegum pink are all fighting for your wardrobe. Even softer shades like vanilla yellow and popcorn yellow — which sit beautifully with white, navy and grey — are trending hard. The key is to clash deliberately. Purple with mustard. Cobalt with teal. It's joyful and honestly, it's just fun.

  • Zara — consistently the fastest to translate runway colour trends into affordable, well-cut pieces

  • Mango — brilliant for cobalt and vivid purple in clean, wearable shapes

  • Anthropologie — if you want something a bit more considered and less "everyone on the high street is wearing this," Anthropologie's colour palette this season is gorgeous

3. Texture, Texture, Texture

If there's one styling philosophy defining 2026, it's this: stop adding more colour and start adding more texture. Bouclé blazers over silk trousers. Leather-trimmed jackets with chunky knits underneath. Suede loafers with a fine lace skirt. The outfit depth this creates is genuinely transformative — I tested it recently with a simple grey sweatshirt, a bouclé blazer and some wide-leg trousers and got more compliments than an outfit I'd spent far longer putting together. The pieces do the work for you.

  • Me&Em — their bouclé and knit pieces are beautifully made and mix-and-match brilliantly

  • Phase Eight — excellent for textured occasion pieces; the fabrication is always impressive

  • AllSaints — if you want the leather element, their leather-trimmed jackets hit the brief perfectly this season

4. Feminine Silhouettes & Lace Is Having Its Moment

Lace is no longer relegated to lingerie or weddings — it's very much a daywear fabric in 2026. Lace maxi skirts, satin skirts with lace trims, floaty lace trousers. The key is pairing it with something relaxed and oversized on top to stop it feeling too precious. A lace midi skirt with an oversized vanilla yellow knit is an absolutely winning combination right now. Drop waist skirts are also everywhere — they're fluid, flattering and have a beautiful movement to them that feels genuinely fresh.

  • Ghost — has always been the queen of romantic feminine dressing and this trend plays directly to their strengths

  • Monsoon — brilliant for lace and embellished pieces at an accessible price point

  • LK Bennett — for the more polished, occasion-ready version of this trend

For independent labels worth knowing about: Realisation Par does exquisite printed silky skirts that nod beautifully to this trend, and Sister Jane is absolutely killing it for romantic, feminine dressing with a modern edge — both worth bookmarking.

5. The Accessories are LOUD (and We Love It)

Quiet luxury is officially packing its bags. In 2026, accessories are statement-making, sculptural and unapologetically bold. A few highlights:

  • Gold jewellery — chunky yellow gold cuffs, big hoop earrings, layered chains. This is the accessories trend of the year

  • Brooches — yes, really. Modern brooches are sculptural and oversized; wear multiple together on a blazer lapel for serious impact

  • Silk scarves — worn in the hair, around the neck, tied to a bag. They add colour and intention to any look effortlessly

  • Long pendant necklaces — the bigger the better, apparently, and I'm entirely here for it

  • Oliver Bonas — genuinely one of the best high street options for statement jewellery; their gold pieces this season are excellent

  • Ted Baker — great for silk scarves and polished accessories with a premium finish

  • Cos — for more architectural, sculptural jewellery that has a real design pedigree

6. Preppy Gets a Serious Glow-Up

The preppy wave that started in 2025 is not retreating — it's getting more refined. Quarter-zip knits (Chanel opened their Métiers d'Art show with one, which tells you everything you need to know), polo tops, crisp poplin shirts and turtlenecks used as layering pieces are all enormous. The trick is to avoid looking like you raided a 1990s catalogue — pair a polo with wide-leg trousers and gold jewellery rather than chinos and loafers for the 2026 version.

  • Gant — the original preppy brand done properly, and their quality is genuinely excellent

  • Boden — brilliant for the softer, more British take on this look; their knitwear especially

  • Tommy Hilfiger — for a bolder, more logo-forward version of the preppy aesthetic

7. Animal Print — All Prints Welcome

It's not just leopard print anymore. Zebra, dalmatian, cow print — all of it is having a moment and the energy is playful rather than predatory. My personal vote goes to zebra, which feels genuinely chic rather than showy. A zebra print shirt tucked into wide-leg black trousers is one of my favourite outfits I've put together this season. Simple, graphic, brilliant.

  • H&M — consistently good for animal print at an affordable price; their zebra pieces this season are worth a look

  • River Island — great for bolder, statement animal print pieces that have real energy

  • Jigsaw — for the more refined, investment-worthy animal print in quality fabrics
