The Biggest Jeans Trends for Summer 2026 — And What to Actually Buy

Right, let's talk about summer denim — because if anyone is still under the impression you shouldn't wear jeans in warm weather, please bin that idea immediately. Some of the most iconic summer dressing of the last 30 years has centred on a good pair of jeans. Jane Birkin on the Côte d'Azur. Carolyn Bessette Kennedy in Manhattan. Hailey Bieber practically everywhere. The formula of a brilliant pair of jeans with a simple summer top is one of those perpetually correct moves, and this summer the options are genuinely exciting.
I've been watching the runway reports and scouring what's actually landing in stores and on the street-style circuit, and summer 2026 is one of the most interesting denim moments in years. There's real variety here — silhouette-wise, colour-wise, and in terms of what's finally fallen out of favour. Here's everything worth knowing.
"This summer the directive is clean, intentional denim. Elevated, not distressed. Thoughtful, not throwaway."
01 Earthy Neutrals — Khaki, Camel & Sun-Faded Tones
This is the one I'm most excited about personally, and it makes complete sense for summer. The classic indigo blue jean isn't going anywhere, but the real energy right now is in earthy, warm neutrals — think soft khakis, sun-bleached camels, biscuit tones and those slightly dusty sage shades that feel almost vintage-bleached rather than aggressively dyed. According to Rosie Ingleby, co-founder of denim brand Dala, these tones are building alongside a revival of pale vintage blues, creating a palette that's warm, relaxed and genuinely modern.
What I love about this trend is that it solves the perennial summer denim problem: indigo blue clashes with half your summer wardrobe. A pair of khaki straight-legs or camel-wash jeans works with everything from a white linen shirt to a floral cami — the entire summer colour palette becomes workable in a way it just isn't with traditional blue denim.
WHERE TO SHOP
Mango — consistently brilliant for coloured denim at accessible prices. Their khaki and beige styles are worth snapping up early in the season.
Zara — always quick off the mark with runway-adjacent colour stories. Search their straight-leg and wide-leg sections for earthy colourways.
Cos — the best high street option if you want a cleaner, more architectural take on neutral denim. Their fabrics are notably better quality than most in this bracket.
Citizens of Humanity — for a premium earthy denim investment. Their washes are genuinely exceptional and the fit across this colour family is a cut above.
Massimo Dutti — consistently underrated for this exact aesthetic. Their coloured straight-leg styles have a quiet, European elegance to them.
02 The Bootcut Revival — It's Actually Happening
I'll be honest — when I first started seeing bootcut denim resurface on the street-style circuit, I mentally filed it under "trends I'll believe when I see them on real women." And then I started seeing them on real women. Everywhere. The bootcut is well and truly back, and done right it's one of the most flattering silhouettes going for most body shapes — it lengthens the leg, creates a balanced proportion between hip and ankle, and looks absolutely brilliant with a slight heel or platform.
The key difference from the early 2000s version is that the 2026 bootcut is cleaner. No excessive flare, no rhinestone detailing, no ultra-low rise. It's a subtle kick below the knee in a classic mid-rise cut — far closer to a very slight flare than the dramatic bell-bottoms of a decade ago. Think Kate Moss in Saint-Tropez circa 1997 rather than peak-era denim flares.
WHERE TO SHOP
Levi's — obviously. The 715 bootcut is back in stock in multiple washes and it's the reference point everyone's working off. Worth every penny.
ASOS — excellent for affordable bootcut options across washes and heights. Read the size notes carefully — their own-brand denim can vary.
Reiss — for a polished, smart-casual bootcut that transitions easily from desk to dinner. Particularly good in darker washes.
Paige — premium denim done properly. Their Transcend fabric has a comfort stretch that makes the bootcut silhouette wearable all day without any of the dreaded end-of-day bagging.
All Saints — brilliant for a slightly more rock-and-roll take on the bootcut. Their darker washes in particular are very well-done.
03 White & Light-Wash Denim — A Summer Non-Negotiable
White jeans are one of those trends that resurfaces every summer and every summer I end up recommending them again, because they genuinely work. A crisp white wide-leg or straight-leg jean with a simple top is one of the cleanest, most effortless summer outfits you can put together. This season, it's the '90s light-wash that's building alongside bright white — that slightly faded, vintage-looking pale blue that was all over the A/W 2026 runways and is very much a summer staple.
My only rule with white denim: get a good pair. Cheap white jeans go thin and slightly transparent in sunlight, which is never a great look. Spend a little more here and you'll wear them for years.
WHERE TO SHOP
The White Company — exactly where you'd expect. Their white straight-leg styles are impeccably done and remain crisp wash after wash.
Whistles — clean, modern white denim cuts with a bit more editorial edge. Consistently true-to-size and well-constructed.
French Connection — a reliable source for affordable white denim that doesn't go see-through. Their summer denim capsule tends to deliver.
Abercrombie & Fitch — this brand has quietly become one of the best denim fits on the high street. Their white straight and wide-leg styles are particularly popular with the style community right now.
Tommy Hilfiger — particularly for the '90s light-wash look. Their nautical-tinged denim aesthetic is made for this trend.
Hush — a brilliant independent find for elevated white denim. Their pieces have a considered, lifestyle-brand quality that's worth paying for.
04 Relaxed Straight-Leg & Stovepipe — The Elevated Everyday
If you've been wearing the same pair of straight-leg jeans for the last two years, good news: you're still absolutely on trend. The relaxed straight-leg and stovepipe silhouette has become the denim equivalent of a white shirt — a wardrobe constant that simply works, season after season. For summer 2026, it's all about pairing this clean silhouette with the season's lighter, more feminine tops — sheer blouses, broderie camisoles, pretty printed shirts — and letting the denim do the grounding work.
The stovepipe specifically — a slightly more narrow, rigid straight leg that sits closer to the body without being fitted — has been doing huge numbers in terms of fashion coverage this year. It's incredibly versatile and one of those rare silhouettes that genuinely flatters most body shapes when you get the rise right.
WHERE TO SHOP
Arket — excellent straight-leg options across sustainable denim. Their Cloud Jeans have genuine cult status for a reason.
Jigsaw — a great source for the elevated, slightly smarter end of the relaxed straight-leg. Pairs well with their own knitwear and tailoring too.
Boden — underrated for denim. Their straight-leg styles are well-proportioned and come in a good range of leg lengths, which matters enormously for this silhouette.
Me&Em — if you want the investment version. Their denim cuts are genuinely exceptional and sized consistently.
Banana Republic — quietly brilliant for this exact category. Clean, considered, with better fabric weight than you'd expect at the price point.
05 Denim Shorts — But Make Them Longer

The micro-short denim era is wrapping up. 2025 was the summer of jorts (don't @ me, I only report these things) — and while a great pair of classic cutoffs is never truly wrong, the direction for summer 2026 is longer, looser and significantly more grown-up. We're talking Bermuda-length shorts hitting around the knee, culotte-length denim sitting at mid-calf, and everything in between. The key word being used across the board is "elevated" — denim that bridges casual and polished rather than leaning hard into beach-festival territory.
Honestly? I'm here for this shift. A wider, longer denim short works on so many more body types and occasions than a tiny frayed pair, and done right — with a tucked-in linen shirt or a cropped jacket — it looks genuinely chic rather than like you're on your way to a car boot sale.
WHERE TO SHOP
H&M — leading the way on Bermuda shorts at affordable prices. Look in their Conscious or Studio collections for the cleaner finishes.
Mango — again, very strong here. Their longer denim shorts in both neutral and classic blue are well-cut and easy to style.
Gap — the original Bermuda short brand. Their denim shorts remain reliably well-fitted and competitively priced.
Anthropologie — great for more elevated, detail-rich longer denim shorts. Slightly pricier but the quality difference shows.
Seasalt Cornwall — worth checking for a more relaxed, coastal take on the longer short. Their denim is well-made and practical in an understated way.
06 Coloured & Tonal Denim — Red, Rust and the Unexpected
Beyond the earthy neutrals I mentioned earlier, there's a bolder coloured denim story running alongside it this summer — and it's more wearable than it sounds. Rich reds, soft rusts and faded terracotta tones are having a genuine moment, as are butter yellows (which I know sounds alarming but when faded and soft rather than neon-adjacent, they really do work). The best way to approach coloured denim is the same way you'd approach any statement piece: keep the rest of the outfit quiet and let the jeans do the talking.
I tried a pair of faded red straight-legs a few weeks ago that I was fully prepared to hate and they were genuinely one of those dressing-room surprises — paired with a white linen shirt and simple sandals, they looked expensive and intentional. Don't write off the colour story without trying it.
WHERE TO SHOP
Zara — consistently the best place for coloured denim moments on the high street. Their stock moves fast so go early in the season.
Urban Outfitters — the go-to for the more adventurous end of coloured denim, especially in faded and washed-down tones.
Topshop (via ASOS) — still delivers on trend-led coloured denim options. Their Joni and Editor styles in seasonal colourways are worth searching out.
Claudie Pierlot — for a genuinely elegant take on coloured denim at a premium price point. French-inflected and impeccably cut.
New Look — one of the best value options for jumping on this trend without committing significant budget to a colourway you might rotate out by September.
07 Balloon & Curved-Leg Denim — The Looser Silhouette Returns
The stovepipe and straight-leg aren't the only game in town this season. After a couple of years of the exaggerated barrel jean dominating fashion coverage, the pendulum is swinging back to a softer, more relaxed loose fit — balloon legs, curved-hem styles, and that slightly billowy wide-leg that gives you a strong silhouette without requiring architectural tailoring from the waist up. Style these with a fitted top or a simple tucked shirt to create the proportion and let the volume of the leg do the work.
WHERE TO SHOP
Ganni — one of the best sources for this playful, oversized denim aesthetic. Expensive but genuinely well-made.
River Island — a reliable and affordable source for volume-heavy denim silhouettes. Their own-brand wide-leg and balloon styles punch above their price point.
ASOS — massive range here. Use the filter function and read every review — sizing on oversized styles can be unpredictable.
Paloma Wool — an independent Spanish brand that's become a cult name on the fashion circuit. Their denim pieces are sculptural, considered and unlike anything on the mainstream high street. Worth knowing about.
Agolde — premium denim with a Los Angeles edit. Their loose and balloon-leg styles are genuinely exceptional and wash beautifully.
WHAT TO SKIP THIS SUMMER
Heavy distressing and ripped denim — declared dated as recently as spring 2026. The directive is clean and intentional, full stop.
Micro-shorts — not gone forever, but very much out of the fashion conversation for now. Longer hemlines are the move.
Over-cropped skinny jeans — not dead but far from the front of the conversation this season. If you love them, wear them — but they won't be the statement piece.
Heavy cuffing — not all cuffing is wrong, but the prominent cuff-as-style-statement is flagged as dated in almost every 2026 forecast I've read.

How to Actually Use These Trends
A quick note, because I see this go wrong all the time: you don't need to adopt every trend on this list. The point is to pick the one or two that feel most natural to you and build an outfit around them — not to do a full denim wardrobe overhaul every June. If you're a straight-leg devotee, get them in a khaki or earthy wash and you've ticked two trends at once. If you're trying to build out your summer wardrobe from scratch, the light-wash vintage jean and a longer Bermuda short is a genuinely brilliant starting combination that covers a huge range of summer occasions.
And if you're finding sizing across all these brands confusing — because you will, because every brand sizes differently in denim especially — Tellar.co.uk is designed exactly for this. Enter your measurements once and get your size in any brand instantly. The Store Size Lookup tool covers 1,500+ brands and it's completely free. I built it because I got tired of buying the wrong size online, and it's the tool I genuinely wish had existed when I was starting out as a stylist.
