The Biggest Summer Trends for 2026 — and Why Flowy Trousers Are the One Thing Worth Buying Right Now

Flowy trousers are the definitive buy of summer 2026 — and if you haven't picked up a pair yet, you're genuinely missing out on the most wearable, most flattering, most versatile piece of the entire season. I've been saying this to clients since March and I'll keep saying it until every woman I know owns a pair. They are that good.
But before we go deep on the trouser (and we will, trust me), let me give you the full picture of what's happening in fashion this summer — because the context matters. The biggest trends of 2026 are united by one thread: ease. Not the lazy, couldn't-care-less kind of ease, but that deliberately considered, softly put-together look that fashion insiders have been quietly building their wardrobes around for a while now. Boho is back. Drape is back. Movement is the whole point.
The Biggest Summer 2026 Trends at a Glance
Here's what I'm seeing everywhere — on the runways, in the street style, and, more tellingly, in what's actually selling:
FLOWY TROUSERS
The hero piece of the season. Boho-influenced, wide-leg, movement-led. The chic alternative to shorts.
PAISLEY & BANDANA PRINTS
The print of summer 2026. Warm, nostalgic, bohemian — and incredibly easy to build an outfit around.
BOHEMIAN DRESSES
Chloé-inspired, diaphanous, effortless. The further from structured, the better this season.
CLOUD DANCER WHITE
Pantone's colour of the year is everywhere. Airy whites in slouchy silhouettes are deeply chic for summer.
SHEER LAYERS
Seen at Chanel and Chloé — strategic sheers over slips, linen, or breezy cotton. Sensual but not obvious.
BOLD COBALT & CERULEAN
A sharp, confident pop of blue against neutrals. The anti-neutral neutral, if that makes sense.
All lovely. All very wearable. But the flowy trouser? That's the one I'd spend my actual money on. Here's why.
Why the Flowy Trouser Is the Buy of the Season
I'll be honest — I was slightly sceptical when this trend first started building momentum. I have a pair of wide-leg linen trousers that have been lurking at the back of my wardrobe since approximately 2019, and I always thought of them as a bit of a dressing gamble. Too much fabric. Easy to get wrong.
Then I wore them on a recent trip to Portugal and I never wanted to take them off. Cool in 30-degree heat, comfortable for dinner, smart enough for a decent restaurant, and — and this is the key thing — genuinely flattering in a way that shorts rarely are. I came back and immediately bought two more pairs. Converted.
"If you're tired of short shorts, flowy trousers are equally perfect for hot summer days and twice as flattering." — Who What Wear, May 2026
The current boho revival is what's brought them back with serious momentum. Think wide-leg palazzo shapes, soft drawstring waists, printed fabrics — linen, gauze, crinkle cotton, fluid viscose. These are not structured tailored trousers. They move, they drape, they breathe. They are precisely what you want on a warm British summer day when you need to go from the farmers' market to a lunch and not look like you've tried too hard.
How to Style Flowy Trousers — A Stylist's Honest Guide
THE CLASSIC SUMMER LOOK
Wide-leg flowy trousers in a warm neutral (stone, ivory, terracotta) with a simple fitted white tank tucked in loosely — this is the Ibiza-chic formula and it works every single time
Finish with flat leather sandals or espadrilles, a straw tote, and one piece of statement jewellery. Resist over-accessorising — the trouser is doing the work
Tuck your top in properly at the front, leave it loose at the back for that insouciant French-woman effect
FOR EVENINGS & SMARTER OCCASIONS
A printed flowy trouser (paisley is bang on trend this summer) with a simple black or ivory cami and heeled mules instantly reads as evening-appropriate
A tailored linen blazer over a flowy trouser is a brilliant smart-casual formula — structured top, fluid bottom. It's balanced and polished without looking like you tried too hard
For a wedding or garden party, an embellished or printed wide-leg trouser with a silk blouse tucked in gives you a genuinely chic alternative to a dress
AVOID THESE COMMON MISTAKES
Wrong length: Flowy trousers should graze the floor or sit just above the ankle. Mid-calf is the unflattering dead zone — avoid it
Too much volume everywhere: If the trouser is very wide and flowy, keep the top close to the body. Volume on both top and bottom just reads as unstructured rather than chic
The wrong shoes: Chunky trainers with a flowy trouser rarely lands. Go flat leather sandals, espadrilles, strappy heeled mules, or simple white trainers. No bulky soles
Over-belting: A thin belt can work beautifully with a drawstring waist, but avoid anything too heavy or structured — it fights the whole vibe of the trouser
THE PRINTS TO KNOW
Paisley & bandana print — the print of summer 2026. Looks brilliant in warm rust, navy, or ivory tones
Abstract florals — loose, painterly, non-literal florals. Not chintz. More like a Matisse painting than a Laura Ashley curtain
Solid Cloud Dancer white or ivory — arguably the chicest option. Timeless and deeply summer-appropriate
Earthy terracotta & ochre — rich, warm, and perfect for that boho holiday aesthetic
High Street: Where to Buy Flowy Trousers Right Now
These are the brands I'd genuinely recommend for this specific trend — all chosen because they've done it well this season:
Zara — the most responsive high street brand when it comes to trend translation. Their flowy trouser edit for summer 2026 is excellent — gorgeous printed and linen options at brilliant prices. Check the new-in section weekly, these sell fast
Mango — consistently one of the best high street options for boho-adjacent dressing. Their wide-leg linen trousers are beautifully cut and come in great summer colour palettes. Strong prints this season too
Anthropologie — this is the destination for the printed, bohemian end of the flowy trouser trend. A slightly higher price point than pure high street but the fabrics and prints are genuinely special. Very on-brief for 2026
White Stuff — brilliant for relaxed linen and crinkle-cotton wide-leg trousers in natural tones. Not the trendiest brand, but for quality summer basics that actually last, they're hard to beat. Their pull-on linen trousers in particular are a wardrobe staple
H&M — for budget-friendly trend pieces, H&M's conscious collection does a good flowy trouser this season. Don't expect incredible longevity but brilliant for a printed statement pair you'll wear for one killer summer
Boden — their printed wide-leg trousers are genuinely lovely and very wearable for the British summer. Good quality, great prints, and their sizing is reliable and generous
Monsoon — often overlooked but brilliant for the boho-print end of this trend. Their embroidered and patterned wide-leg trousers have real character and are priced very accessibly
Cos — for the minimal, Cloud Dancer white end of the trend. Cos does wide-leg trousers in fluid fabrics exceptionally well — clean lines, beautiful drape, no fuss
Fat Face — don't dismiss them. Their linen wide-leg trousers are incredibly wearable, well-priced, and come in lovely summer palettes. Under-rated for this exact trend
Premium Picks

For a slightly bigger investment — pieces that will genuinely last beyond one summer:
Faithfull the Brand — the Australian label that basically invented the elevated resort trouser. Their printed and embroidered wide-leg styles are flawless. A genuine investment buy that you'll wear for years
Lily and Lionel — a brilliant UK premium label doing gorgeous printed trousers in silk and viscose blends. The prints are artistic and distinctive — you won't see three other people in the same pair at a wedding
Me&Em — their fluid wide-leg trousers are beautifully made, cut for real women, and come in genuinely sophisticated colourways. A strong buy at the premium end of the high street
Luxury & Designer
If you're splashing out — these are the labels setting the tone for the entire trend:
Chloé — this is ground zero for the entire boho-flowy movement of summer 2026. Natacha Ramsay-Levi's runway was basically a masterclass in how to do this aesthetic. The real thing, if you can stretch to it
Zimmermann — the Australian luxury label that does printed resort dressing like no one else. Their wide-leg trouser styles are extraordinary. Iconic, honestly
Max Mara — for the elevated, sophisticated end of flowy dressing. Their fluid tailored trousers in ivory and cream are deeply chic and endlessly versatile
Two Independent Brands to Bookmark
Damson Madder — a brilliant UK independent label doing bold, personality-packed printed wide-leg trousers that look genuinely expensive without the price tag. If you want to stand out rather than blend in, this is your brand. Well worth following on Instagram for new drops
Wyse London — a quietly brilliant UK independent known for beautiful prints and relaxed, elegant silhouettes. Their wide-leg and palazzo styles are exactly right for this trend and the quality is exceptional. A lovely discovery if you don't already know them
The Verdict
Summer 2026 is the season of ease, movement, and considered bohemianism. The flowy trouser is its defining piece — versatile enough for a beach holiday, a garden party, and an actual office (yes, really), and flattering in a way that genuinely surprises most women the first time they wear them properly.
Buy one pair. One good pair in a solid colour or a print you love. Style it simply. You will wear it constantly and wonder why you resisted for so long. I speak from experience — and from one very good pair of crinkle-cotton wide-legs that barely made it back into my suitcase from Lisbon.
