The Summer Dress Trends You'll Actually Want to Wear in 2026

TELLAR FASHION HUB — STYLE ADVICE

By Ella Blake — Tellar Lead Stylist

Summer 2026 is one of the strongest dress seasons I can remember — and I mean that. We are talking draped silhouettes, bold cobalt blues, ruffled occasion pieces and the kind of liquid silk slip that makes getting dressed feel genuinely joyful. If you've been reaching for the same reliable midi year after year (no judgement — I had a black linen phase that lasted an embarrassingly long time), this is the season to branch out.

Here is what's actually on trend right now, how to wear it, and where to find it without spending a fortune.

1. The Draped Dress — Sculptural and Seriously Chic

This is my personal favourite trend of the season. Draped dresses have come off the runway in a big way for SS26 — from looped bodice details to bubble-hem finishing — and they look far more effortless in real life than on the catwalk. The key is finding one where the draping does the styling work for you. You don't need anything else going on.

  • Cos — Brilliant for clean, architectural draping in beautiful fabrics. Their minimal aesthetic is perfectly suited to this trend.

  • Reiss — Worth every penny for a draped midi that will go from a work dinner to a wedding with zero fuss.

  • For designer, keep an eye on Zimmermann — their bubble-hem draping this season is exceptional.

2. Cape Dresses — The Statement Piece You Didn't Know You Needed

I'll be honest — when I first saw cape dresses come through on the SS26 runway reports, I thought "not for me." Then I tried one on and completely reversed my position. The extra fabric creates this beautiful, intentional drama that reads as really dressed-up without any actual effort. Perfect for summer weddings, races, or any occasion where you want to look like you have a stylist (you do — me).

  • Phase Eight — Consistently delivers brilliant occasion-wear and their cape styles for this season are no exception. Great fit across sizes too.

  • Coast — One of the best on the high street for event dressing. Their cape-effect occasion dresses are worth bookmarking now.

  • Ted Baker — Their premium occasionwear with a modern twist is exactly right for this trend.

3. Bold Blues — The Colour of Summer 2026

Forget pastels. This summer it's cobalt, ultramarine, deep navy and sky blue that are everywhere — and I am entirely here for it. Blue is one of those universally flattering shades that suits every skin tone when you find the right depth. My advice? Try a few, be bold, and don't automatically reach for the pale version if you want real impact.

  • Zara — Always on trend and their cobalt pieces this season are excellent quality for the price. Move quickly, they sell fast.

  • Mango — Gorgeous cut on their blue midi and maxi dresses this summer. The fabrics feel premium even at high street prices.

  • Anthropologie — If you want something a bit more unique in a beautiful blue print or shade, Anthropologie is your first stop.

4. Florals — But Make It Fashion

Yes, florals for summer. But before you roll your eyes at the predictability of it, hear me out — the 2026 version is a world away from the safe ditsy prints we've seen before. This season it's bold wallpaper florals, oversized blooms and off-the-shoulder romantic styles that feel genuinely fresh. Chloé's wallpaper floral midi is the inspiration, and the high street has followed brilliantly.

  • Monsoon — Genuinely one of the best for bold, beautiful floral dresses. Their prints have real depth and the fabrics drape beautifully.

  • Boden — Reliable, joyful florals that always look expensive for what you pay. Great option if you want something you'll still love in five years.

5. Ruffles, Embellishment and Maximalist Detail

Post Image

If you are a maximalist, this is your season. Ruffles, feather-trim detail, tassels and statement sleeves have all come through strongly from SS26 — and on the high street they translate into genuinely wearable pieces that are brilliant for race days and summer garden parties. I wore a ruffled Topshop dress to a wedding a few years ago and the compliments I got were absurd for how little I paid. This trend gives that same energy.

  • Topshop — They've nailed embellished and ruffled occasion pieces this season. Reasonably priced and very trend-forward.

  • H&M — Surprisingly good for statement occasion dresses at accessible prices. The quality has genuinely improved.

6. Metallics and Liquid Silks — Yes, For Daytime

A day sequin is criminally underrated — I have been saying this for years and finally the rest of the fashion world has caught up. Foiled fabrics, liquid silks and subtle sequin finishes are all over SS26, and in summer daylight they look genuinely spectacular rather than overdressed. Pair with flat sandals and keep accessories simple.

  • Whistles — Excellent for sophisticated liquid silk-style dresses that feel luxurious without tipping into costume territory.

  • Me&Em — Brilliant quality, beautiful drape on their silk-effect pieces. An investment, but one you'll wear constantly.

Two Independent Brands Worth Knowing

I always try to shout about a couple of smaller brands worth discovering alongside the big names — because the high street doesn't have a monopoly on great dressing.

  • Ghost London — A British brand that has been making beautifully draped, feminine dresses for decades. Their satin and charmeuse pieces are perfect for this summer's slip and drape trend, and the sizing is generous. Worth every penny.

  • Kitri — A London-based independent that makes considered, statement dresses in limited runs. Their bold prints and tailored silhouettes are perfect for the colour-blocking and floral trends this season. One to bookmark before everyone else catches on.
