Vero Moda Sizing: Does It Run True to Size?

Vero Moda runs small to true to size — but the brand uses EU sizing throughout, and its cuts are noticeably close to the body, particularly across dresses, blazers and jeans. If you're shopping online and just guessing from your usual UK size, you can very easily end up with something that technically fits but feels more like a second skin than you bargained for.
I'll be honest — I nearly made a fool of myself wearing a Vero Moda blazer to a client consultation once. I'd grabbed a size 10 (EU 38) without a second thought, spent the whole meeting unable to properly lift my arms above table height, and spent the rest of the day quietly blaming dry cleaning. It wasn't the dry cleaning. It was the sizing. The moment I tried the same style in a 12, it was a completely different garment — sharp, polished, and utterly wearable. The lesson? EU sizing plus a narrower, more European cut means you cannot shop Vero Moda the same way you'd shop M&S or Next.
The Vero Moda Fit: What You Need to Know First
Vero Moda is a Danish brand under the Bestseller group — the same stable as Jack & Jones, Selected and Only — and it's designed with a distinctly Scandinavian sensibility. That means clean lines, streamlined shapes and a silhouette that sits close to the body rather than offering much ease. It's consistently trend-led, well-priced, and genuinely good quality for the price point. But the sizing? It rewards preparation.
The key thing to understand is that Vero Moda labels in EU sizes (34–44), not UK sizes, even when sold through UK stockists like ASOS or John Lewis. So a UK 10 is an EU 38, and a UK 14 is an EU 42. That translation matters enormously, because shoppers frequently pick up what looks like their usual size on the hanger and find it's a full size smaller than expected.

This is one of the things I genuinely appreciate about Vero Moda — the three-length denim system is a lifesaver and more brands should do it. It means petite women aren't drowning in excess fabric, and taller women aren't showing their ankles when they sit down.
Sizing by Garment — What to Expect
Dresses: Vero Moda does beautiful dresses — midi lengths, wrap styles, occasion pieces — but they tend to be cut with a fitted bodice and close waist. If you're fuller in the bust or carry weight across the ribs, size up one. Stretchy jersey fabrics are more forgiving; structured or lined styles are not.
Blazers & Jackets: This is where sizing up makes the most consistent difference. Vero Moda blazers are cut narrow across the shoulders and tight through the armhole. Brilliant on a straight-up-and-down frame. Less brilliant if you have broader shoulders or like to layer. My advice: always go up one size here and belt it if you want a more defined waist.
Jeans & Trousers: Vero Moda jeans are a genuine crowd-pleaser when you get the size right. Skinny and straight-leg fits run narrow — true to size if there's stretch in the fabric, but size up in rigid non-stretch denim. Wide-leg and relaxed styles are more generous and tend to sit closer to true to size.
Tops & Blouses: Generally the most forgiving category in the range. Most tops in stretch fabrics are true to size. Where it gets tricky is around the chest and shoulders — if you're broader up top, size up and you'll find the fit much more comfortable without looking boxy.
Knitwear: More relaxed by nature, and Vero Moda's knitwear is one of the brand's strongest suits (their chunky knit jumpers are genuinely excellent). True to size across most styles — only size up if you prefer an oversized look.
Coats & Outerwear: Size up without hesitation. You need layering room, and Vero Moda's outerwear is cut lean. A size 10 coat over a thick jumper in a Vero Moda EU 38 is optimistic at best.
Who Does Vero Moda Sizing Work Best For?

Vero Moda's core fit works brilliantly if you're slim to average build, between a UK 8 and 14, and happy in a close-fitting silhouette. The brand has also expanded its curve range (sizes 44–54) in recent years, which is stocked on its own website and worth exploring if you're above a UK 16 — it's cut differently and tends to have better proportioning for fuller figures than simply scaling up the standard range.
If you're petite, the Short leg option on jeans is your best friend. If you're tall, the Long option brings the inseam to 32 inches, which works for most heights up to around 5'10" — beyond that, you may still find trousers sitting at the ankle.
High Street Alternatives with Similar Sizing Energy
Love the Vero Moda look but want a different fit, a different price point, or just a bit more sizing breathing room? These are the brands I'd direct you to, all selected because they genuinely share that clean, trend-forward, wearable aesthetic:
Mango — Vero Moda's closest sibling in terms of aesthetic. Spanish-designed, similarly body-conscious cuts, brilliant tailoring, and strong on colour. Worth cross-referencing sizing carefully here too, as Mango also runs European proportions.
River Island — Particularly strong for occasion dresses and going-out pieces that share Vero Moda's youthful, trend-led energy. River Island tends to be slightly more generous in the bust and hip, which many women find a relief.
Warehouse — An underrated gem on the British high street. Warehouse has quietly excellent tailoring and a really grown-up version of the Vero Moda aesthetic — great dresses, smart blazers, and reliable sizing.
Urban Outfitters — If you love the more directional, editorial side of Vero Moda's range, UO delivers a similar vibe with more of an independent-brand feel. Sizing is more relaxed overall.
French Connection — For the tailored and occasion-wear side of things, French Connection is brilliant. Consistently well-cut, reliable sizing, and the quality has genuinely improved in recent years.
New Look — More generous in its sizing and very competitively priced. A great option if you find Vero Moda consistently runs too narrow for your frame, as New Look cuts with a little more ease across the bust and hips.
Oasis — Back and better than ever online, Oasis shares Vero Moda's feminine, floral and occasion-led DNA. Sizing tends to be closer to standard UK sizing, which many shoppers find easier to navigate.
Great Plains — Slightly more relaxed and bohemian than Vero Moda, but brilliant quality for the price and a lovely alternative if you want the style without the fitted cut. Their jersey dresses are a particular highlight.
Two Independent Labels Worth Discovering
Nobody's Child — A British independent that has become a genuine cult favourite, particularly for dresses. Their sizing is soft and generous, the prints are beautiful, and they're consistently praised in Grazia and Stylist for fitting real women rather than a very particular sample-size ideal. If Vero Moda's dresses don't quite work for your shape, Nobody's Child almost certainly will.
Samsøe Samsøe — Since we're talking Scandinavian brands, this Danish label deserves a mention. Less high street, more considered — beautifully cut basics and elevated separates that sit in the same clean, minimal aesthetic as Vero Moda but with noticeably better fabric quality and slightly more generous proportions. Stocked at ASOS and independent boutiques across the UK.
