VOZ Sizing: Does It Run True to Size?

VOZ runs true to size on most pieces — but the key thing to understand is that much of the collection is deliberately designed to be fluid, oversized and size-flexible, so the usual rules of checking a number on a label don't always apply here. This is a brand where the garment's intended shape matters far more than the tag.

I've been a fan of VOZ for a while, and honestly the first time I held one of their handwoven baby alpaca pieces I nearly couldn't put it down. There's something genuinely different about clothes made this way — you can feel the craft in them. But I've also seen clients tie themselves in knots trying to size it, so let me break it down properly.

About the Brand

VOZ — Spanish for "voice" — is an artisanal luxury fashion brand founded in 2012 by Jasmine Aarons, a Stanford-trained product design engineer, working in collaboration with Mapuche indigenous weavers in the Araucanía region of southern Chile. The brand is a certified B Corporation, pays living wages throughout its supply chain, and uses only sustainable fibres: baby alpaca, wool and pima cotton, sourced from the Andean region.

The aesthetic is a beautiful mix of bohemian and structural — handwoven textiles, natural dip-dye methods, fringing, zigzag prints and draped silhouettes. Pieces are genuinely one of a kind in the truest sense, because many of the fabrics are woven by hand by a specific group of artisans. It's stocked via their own site at madebyvoz.com and available through select ethical luxury boutiques. The brand has been featured in Vogue and the New York Times, which tells you all you need to know about where it sits in the market.

VOZ Size Guide – US to UK Conversion

VOZ uses US sizing throughout. The table below gives you the standard conversion to UK sizes along with body measurements as a guide. Remember — for most VOZ pieces, the brand itself states that sizing is flexible, so use these as a starting reference, not a rigid rule.

Key tip: For any VOZ piece described as "draped," "oversized," "kimono" or "tunic," you can confidently go to your standard US size or even a size down — these are intentionally roomy. For any tailored or more fitted pieces, go true to size using the table above.

Sizing by Garment Type

Knitwear & Handwoven Pieces

This is the heart of VOZ — the baby alpaca and wool knitwear, handwoven scarves, capes and wraps that the Mapuche artisans create. These are not cut-and-sewn in the conventional sense; they're woven to shape and have a naturally generous, wraparound quality. Sizing is genuinely flexible here. Most customers find their standard US size works perfectly, and the pieces accommodate a range of shapes beautifully because the construction allows for it.

  • Capes, wraps and oversized knits: go true to size — the relaxed silhouette gives real flexibility

  • Fitted knitwear (where it exists): go true to size; baby alpaca and wool have some natural give but won't stretch dramatically

  • If you're between sizes in knitwear, go up for comfort — these pieces are designed to be worn with ease

Dresses & Tunics

VOZ dresses tend to come in two flavours: the long, floaty, maxi styles in silk-like fabrics with print details, and the more structured, tailored occasion pieces. The floaty maxis often have drawstring or wrap elements and are extremely forgiving — true to size is absolutely fine, and I've seen them work brilliantly across a range of body types. The structured pieces, however, are where you need to pay more attention.

  • Maxi and midi wrap dresses: true to your US size; the adjustable elements make them very adaptable

  • Fitted or tailored dresses: measure your bust and hips and size to whichever is larger

  • Print tunics and kaftan styles: these are deliberately oversized — a UK 10–12 customer can comfortably wear a Small

Tops & Blouses

Post Image

VOZ blouses and tops in woven fabrics — cottons, silks — tend to follow standard US sizing fairly closely. The cuts are generally relaxed rather than fitted, so there's rarely a reason to size up. If you're particularly full-busted, check the specific garment measurements on the product page, as some of the closer-cut tops can be narrow across the chest.

  • Relaxed-fit blouses and peasant-style tops: true to size

  • Cropped tops or fitted styles: go true to size and check the bust measurement if you're above a D cup

  • Pima cotton tops tend to be very soft and have minimal stretch — don't try to size down in these

Trousers & Skirts

VOZ trousers and skirts are most commonly wide-leg, high-waisted styles in draped fabrics. They have an effortlessly elegant quality that's become their signature bottom half. Sizing here is generally true to US size but note that the waistbands are often elasticated or adjustable, which gives you a bit more latitude.

  • Wide-leg trousers: true to size; the waist usually has some adjustment

  • Fitted skirts or A-line styles: measure your hips and size accordingly — these can run a touch narrow in the hip

  • If you carry your weight in the hips or thighs, size up one in any tailored bottom half pieces

Who Is VOZ Best Suited To?

I always think of VOZ when a client says to me, "I want to buy less but better." These are pieces that will genuinely last — not just physically (the quality of handwoven alpaca is extraordinary) but in terms of style. They don't date. VOZ works beautifully for women who:

  • Love relaxed, artisan-influenced silhouettes over tight or structured dressing

  • Want their clothes to tell a story — there is genuine provenance and craft in every piece

  • Are comfortable with sizing that is intentionally loose and draping, rather than body-conscious

  • Are looking for luxury occasion dressing that is genuinely ethical and sustainable

Petite women can do brilliantly in VOZ — the draped silhouettes work really well on smaller frames, and because many pieces are designed to sit off the shoulder or with adjustable waists, height is less of a factor than it might be with other brands. If you're very tall (5'10" and above), the midi and maxi lengths may read shorter on you — bear that in mind with dresses especially.

Alternatives to VOZ — Similar Aesthetic at Different Price Points

VOZ sits at the luxury end of the market — which is entirely justified given the handcraft involved — but not everyone can commit to those price points for every piece. Here are my picks across budgets for women who love the VOZ aesthetic.

High Street Picks:

  • Anthropologie — Consistently one of the best high street options for bohemian-adjacent, artisan-influenced dressing. Their woven and embroidered pieces, in particular, tap into a similar spirit to VOZ without the luxury price tag.

  • Monsoon — Long-standing go-to for handcraft-inspired fashion with beautiful prints, embroidery and natural fabrics. Their midi dresses and kaftans often have real VOZ energy at a fraction of the cost.

  • White Stuff — Great for women who want relaxed, artisan-leaning everyday dressing in natural fabrics. Their linen and cotton pieces in particular suit the VOZ customer well.

  • Fat Face — More casual than VOZ, but brilliant for relaxed, natural-fabric knitwear and easy-wearing dresses that share the same effortless philosophy.

  • Jigsaw — A brilliant mid-market option for the more tailored, structured end of what VOZ does. Jigsaw has always done elevated simplicity well, with a strong commitment to quality fabrics.

  • Oliver Bonas — Underrated for artisan-influenced accessories and relaxed women's fashion. Their printed and textured pieces often punch well above their price point.

  • Boden — For the colourful, print-driven, natural-fabric end of the VOZ world. Boden's quality has improved considerably, and their woven and embroidered pieces are consistently strong.

Premium Picks:

  • Me&Em — A quietly excellent British brand for women who want relaxed luxury with real quality control. Their draped silk and fine-knit pieces sit very naturally alongside a VOZ wardrobe.

  • Hush — Brilliant for the understated, natural-fabric, easy-dressing end of premium. Their linen and cashmere-blend pieces share VOZ's commitment to wearability over show.

Luxury / Designer Picks:

  • Gabriela Hearst — A Uruguayan designer with a comparable commitment to artisan craft, sustainable fibres and a draped, grown-up luxury aesthetic. If you love VOZ, Gabriela Hearst is the next step up.

  • Johanna Ortiz — For the more dramatic, print-led end of artisan luxury fashion. Colombian-born Ortiz shares VOZ's Latin American roots and reverence for handcraft in a more maximalist direction.

Independent & Niche Picks:

  • Nimo with Love — A wonderful small British brand producing sustainable, artisan-inspired women's clothing with a genuinely ethical supply chain. A great discovery for the VOZ customer who wants to support independent makers closer to home.

  • Mayamiko — A Malawi-founded, London-present ethical fashion brand making beautiful wax-print and natural-fabric women's clothing in collaboration with African artisans. Genuinely special, genuinely different, and very much in the spirit of what VOZ stands for.
