What Is My Size at JDY?

JDY runs true to its labelled UK size for most styles, though some of its more fitted jersey pieces and bandeau cuts come up slightly small — so if you're between sizes, sizing up is usually the right call.
I've been wearing JDY pieces on and off for a few years now — it's one of those brands that consistently surprises me with how decent the quality feels for the price. I first picked up a JDY blazer during a late-night scroll session and genuinely couldn't believe it was under £40. That said, I've also had a couple of moments where I've ordered my usual size in a bodycon dress and found myself doing that very undignified wriggle-and-tug situation we've all been through. So let me save you the trouble.
Who Is JDY?
JDY (Just Different You) is a Danish-owned contemporary brand sitting within the Bestseller Group — the same family as ONLY and Vero Moda. It launched as a more affordable, trend-led younger sister to those labels, and it's now stocked widely across ASOS, Next, and its own website. Think relaxed co-ords, feminine midi dresses, casual knitwear, and the sort of easy going denim that you end up wearing three times a week.
It's very much a high-street brand — nothing complicated, nothing pretentious — and the sizing is broadly consistent with that market.
How Does JDY Sizing Work?
JDY uses standard UK sizing (6 through to 20 in most lines), and here's what I've found from personal experience and digging into customer reviews:
Dresses and skirts: Generally true to size. Midi and maxi lengths tend to be generous through the hips, which I love. If you're petite, watch out for hem lengths — they can swamp you.
Jeans and trousers: Sizing here is quite true-to-label across their straight and wide-leg cuts. Their high-waisted styles can be more fitted at the waist, so if you carry your weight more centrally, consider going one up.
Tops and blouses: Relaxed fits are genuinely relaxed — sometimes generously so. Their fitted button-through styles and ribbed tops run a bit small, especially if you're larger-busted.
Knitwear: Tends to be slightly oversized by design, which is exactly right for the current aesthetic. I'd stay true to size here unless you want an extra roomy feel.
Blazers and tailoring: These are cut quite slim through the shoulders. Go up a size if you're broader across the back or want that on-trend relaxed silhouette.
JDY vs. Similar High Street Brands
Sizing on the high street is infuriatingly inconsistent, and I know how frustrating it is when you're ordering online and just can't tell what to pick. Here's how JDY stacks up against some of its closest neighbours:
Mango — Runs a touch smaller than JDY, especially through the bust. If you wear a 12 at JDY, check your measurements against Mango's size guide carefully.
River Island — Very comparable to JDY in terms of fit. The two brands are quite interchangeable for most body types in my experience.
New Look — Slightly more generous than JDY, particularly in their jersey pieces. If New Look is a 12, JDY might feel like a snugger 12.
H&M — Varies wildly by range. Their Divided line runs small; their basics tend to be more generous. JDY is more consistent overall.
ASOS (own brand) — Often cut for a slimmer, longer frame. If you're petite or curvier, JDY's proportions will likely suit you better.
Zara — Generally runs small, particularly in structured pieces. JDY is noticeably more accommodating size-for-size.
Urban Outfitters — Cut with an oversized, relaxed fit in most styles. JDY is more traditionally fitted in comparison, so you can usually stay true to your size.
Topshop — Now mostly online via ASOS; historically known for running slim. JDY sits closer to standard UK sizing in comparison.
Premium Options If You Love the JDY Aesthetic
JDY absolutely nails the easy, wearable everyday look — but if you're after something with a bit more longevity in your wardrobe, there are some brilliant stepping-stone brands worth knowing about:
Whistles — For that same relaxed feminine energy but with noticeably better fabric and construction. Their sizing is true to UK standard and very consistent. A JDY 12 will likely be a Whistles 12.
Me&Em — A brilliant British brand that bridges the high-street-to-premium gap beautifully. Their knitwear in particular is exceptional and sizes run true.
Reiss — A step up again in terms of tailoring and fabric quality. Their sizing can be slightly slim in structured pieces — worth checking reviews per item.
If Budget Isn't a Factor…

For the occasions when you want something that whispers rather than shouts but feels genuinely elevated:
Max Mara — The Italian house that essentially invented the perfect camel coat and whose sizing is notoriously generous. If JDY's relaxed dresses appeal, Max Mara's weekend line does the same thing in extraordinary fabrics.
Two Independent Brands Worth Knowing
I always think it's worth mixing in a couple of smaller names to give your wardrobe some genuine personality:
Aligne — A London-based sustainable brand with genuinely beautiful silhouettes and transparent sizing. If you love JDY's midi dresses, Aligne's linen and organic cotton versions are next-level and run true to UK sizing.
Never Fully Dressed — A UK independent known for its bold prints and incredibly flattering cuts. Their wrap dresses and bandeau styles suit a huge range of body shapes, and the sizing is accurate and inclusive up to a size 26.
My Quick Verdict on JDY Sizing
Stick to your usual UK size in most cases. Size up if you're shopping their body-con or ribbed-jersey styles, if you're larger through the bust, or if you tend to carry weight around your middle. Their denim and tailored pieces can also come up slim, so read the product descriptions carefully — they're usually quite honest about the cut.
The best thing about JDY is the price point makes it low-risk to try. If in doubt, order two sizes, try them on properly (not just pulled over your clothes in a rush), and return the one that doesn't work. That's honestly my approach with any new brand, and it's saved me from more than a few wardrobe regrets.
