What Is Sizing Like at Aligne?

Aligne sizing is largely true to size, but its structured tailoring, nipped-in waists and slightly rigid fabrics mean it can feel snug if you’re between sizes, curvier through the bust, or carry width on the hip. In short: take your usual UK size as a starting point, then read the cut of the individual piece – because a relaxed shirt and a buckled blazer from the same brand simply do not behave the same way on the body.

I’ve styled a lot of Aligne over the past couple of seasons, and it’s become one of those labels I genuinely trust for that “quietly expensive” look without a designer price tag. But I’ll be honest – the first time I ordered, I got it wrong. More on that below.

Who Aligne Is For (and Why the Fit Matters)

Aligne is a London-based contemporary womenswear brand built around clean lines, relaxed-but-sharp tailoring and a genuinely considered, sustainable ethos. Think structured blazers, bias-cut dresses, wide-leg trousers and that signature hourglass shape they thread through their jackets and knits. Because so much of the range is tailored rather than slouchy, fit is doing a lot of the heavy lifting – get the size right and it looks like couture; get it wrong and a beautiful blazer turns into a tight, gaping mess.

Does Aligne Run Big or Small?

Here’s how it breaks down, category by category, based on real customer reviews, magazine try-ons and my own wardrobe:

  • Blazers & tailoring: Generally true to size, but cut with a defined, sometimes boxy shoulder and a cinched waist. If you’re petite or narrow-shouldered, size down. Watch the bust on buttoned-up styles – reviewers consistently find a UK 8 a touch tight across the chest.

  • Trousers: True to size on the waist, but cut slim through the hip. If you’re a pear shape, this is the area to check first.

  • Dresses: The trickiest category. Older bias-cut and signature dress styles ran generously oversized; newer versions have been slimmed down and now sit closer to true to size. Some narrow mini styles run a little tight, so size up if you’re between.

  • Length: Aligne runs long and lean. Wonderful if you’re tall; if you’re petite, factor in a small hemming budget.

My Honest Aligne Fit Story

My first Aligne buy was one of their structured blazers in my “safe” size. It arrived gorgeous on the hanger and then refused to close over the bust – classic Aligne tailoring catching me out. I’d treated it like a high-street blazer when it’s really cut like proper tailoring. Lesson learned: I now size down on the shoulders for a sharp look, and size up on anything I want to wear buttoned. My biggest win? A bias dress I nearly sized up in “to be safe” – I stuck with my true size and it skims in all the right places. Aligne rewards you for reading each piece individually rather than defaulting to one number.

How to Nail Your Aligne Size

Post Image

  • Always check the individual product page – Aligne flags pieces that run large or small.

  • Measure your bust, waist and hips and work from your largest relevant measurement for structured pieces.

  • For relaxed shirting, stay true to size for volume, or size down for a sharper silhouette.

  • If you’re between sizes in tailoring, go up; in slouchy knits, go down.
