What Is Sizing Like at Amiri? A Stylist's Honest Guide

Amiri runs small — particularly in denim — and as the brand sizes in US measurements, UK shoppers should expect to size up by at least one, sometimes two sizes from their usual. I'll be honest: I learned this the hard way after falling hard for a pair of Amiri crystal-embellished jeans and confidently ordering my usual UK 10. They arrived and I could barely get them over my hips. Not my finest moment. But once I figured out the sizing logic, Amiri became one of my favourite luxury investment pieces. Here's everything you need to know before you shop.
The Amiri Brand — A Quick Bit of Context
Founded in Los Angeles by Mike Amiri, the brand launched in 2014 and has become the go-to label for elevated rock-and-roll luxury. Think distressed denim with impeccable tailoring, silk shirts with an edge, and knitwear that looks effortless but costs a small fortune. It's the kind of label that fashion editors wear off-duty — and it has a loyal celebrity following for good reason. The quality is genuinely exceptional, but the sizing? It takes a little navigation.
Amiri Size Conversion — UK, US & EU
Amiri uses US sizing throughout, so this is your essential conversion table. Note that fit varies by garment category — more on that below.
Always measure before ordering. Amiri's size range skews slim — if you're between sizes, size up.
Amiri Denim — The Most Important Category to Get Right
Denim is Amiri's heartland and it's where the sizing is most unforgiving. The signature styles — the MX1, the Crystal, and the distressed straight-leg cuts — are all cut slim through the thigh and hip. The denim itself is mid-weight and doesn't have much stretch in it, which is quite different from the stretchy high street styles most of us are used to.
Size up by one full size from your usual UK jean size as a starting point.
If you have fuller hips or a more pronounced waist-to-hip ratio, size up two.
The waistband runs narrow — the brand cuts for a low-rise, flat-stomach LA silhouette, which isn't always realistic for those of us who've discovered sourdough.
Inseam lengths tend to run long — budget for a small hem if you're under 5'7".
Amiri Tops, T-Shirts & Shirts
Tops are slightly more forgiving than the denim, but still cut slim. The graphic tees and silk shirts are designed with a relaxed, slightly oversized silhouette in some styles — but don't mistake "relaxed" for generous sizing. I'd still recommend sizing up here, particularly if you're broader across the shoulders or have a fuller bust.
Graphic tees: True to size for a fitted look, size up for a relaxed, thrown-on feel (which, frankly, is how they look best).
Silk shirts and blouses: These tend to have more drape and are slightly more accommodating — check individual product measurements, as cuts vary.
Knitwear: Generally runs true to size or slightly generous. A rare win.
Amiri Dresses & Occasion Pieces
Amiri's women's dresses are not a huge category but what exists is stunning — often silky, occasionally embellished, always with that distinctive LA-rock edge. These pieces tend to have more ease built in, but given the price point, I'd strongly recommend checking the measurements and if in doubt, going up a size. Returns on luxury pieces internationally can be painful.
Footwear Sizing

Amiri footwear — including the beloved bone runner trainers and the Chelsea boot styles — tends to run true to size for women, though some trainers come up slightly narrow in the toe box. If you have wider feet, consider going up a half size.
My Honest Verdict on Amiri Sizing
Once you've cracked the code, shopping Amiri is a joy. The quality genuinely justifies the price — these are pieces that last, that get better with age, and that elevate everything around them in your wardrobe. Just accept that you will almost certainly be a larger numerical size here than you're used to, and try not to let that bother you. It's a sizing quirk, not a reflection of anything except an LA brand cutting for a very specific, very slim silhouette. Go up, ignore the number on the label, and enjoy the pieces.
Alternatives to Amiri — At Every Budget
Love the Amiri aesthetic — that rock-infused, effortlessly cool luxury vibe — but want to explore the full spectrum? Here's where I'd shop:
High Street Picks (Great Amiri-Adjacent Style)
All Saints — The high street's closest answer to rock-influenced luxury. Their leather jackets and distressed denim are genuinely excellent quality.
Zara — For current-season trend pieces that capture the LA-cool aesthetic at a fraction of the cost. Their denim cuts have improved enormously.
Urban Outfitters — Great for the graphic-tee and relaxed-fit denim angle; strong on streetwear crossover styling.
ASOS — For size-inclusive options in the rock-chic aesthetic; their premium edit has some strong pieces.
Mango — Excellent silk-look shirts and elevated basics that nail the effortless quality feel at accessible prices.
Reiss — For the more tailored, refined end of the Amiri spectrum — luxe fabrics, clean cuts, grown-up edge.
Cos — Perfect for the minimal, considered basics that underpin a luxury wardrobe. Less rock, more quiet luxury.
Independent Picks
Anine Bing — A Los Angeles brand with an almost identical DNA to Amiri on the women's side. Understated, rock-influenced, high quality. A genuine favourite of mine.
Nudie Jeans — Swedish denim brand with exceptional quality, a strong ethical commitment, and great fits for those who love the worn-in, artisan denim feel that Amiri does so well.
Premium Tier
Frame — Superb denim, similar LA heritage, slightly more accessible price point than Amiri.
IRO Paris — Rock-inspired French fashion, excellent knitwear and leather pieces.
AG Jeans — Premium denim with a wide range of cuts; great if Amiri's slim fit isn't working for your shape.
Luxury / Designer Tier
Saint Laurent — The ultimate rock-chic wardrobe anchor; shares Amiri's reverence for the Rolling Stones aesthetic.
Balmain — For the more embellished, statement end of luxury rock fashion.
The Row — If you want to move from rock-edge to pure quiet luxury, The Row is where Amiri fans often end up.
