What Is Sizing Like at Amy Lynn?

Amy Lynn runs small — particularly through the bust and hips — so if you're between sizes, sizing up is nearly always the right call. I've styled a fair few clients in Amy Lynn pieces over the past few years, and without fail the ones who ordered their usual size ended up in a bit of a wrestle getting the zip up. The brand is built for bodycon silhouettes, and the stretch fabrics are doing a lot of heavy lifting — which is brilliant when the fit is right, but unforgiving when it isn't.
Who Is Amy Lynn?
Amy Lynn is a London-based occasionwear brand that's become something of a go-to for sequin dresses, metallic co-ords, and barely-there party looks. The brand has a real cult following — you'll see it all over Instagram come December — and it's particularly popular for nights out, Christmas parties, and anything where you want to make an entrance without spending a fortune. Prices sit in the accessible premium space, around £30–£100 for most pieces, which makes it brilliant for one-off occasion dressing.
Amy Lynn Size Guide: A Clean Overview
Amy Lynn uses standard UK sizing across its range, running from a UK 6 to a UK 18 in most styles
My honest advice: These are the label numbers. In practice, the cut runs a good half-size to full size small, especially in the dresses and co-ord sets. If you measure yourself and sit right on the boundary between two sizes — go up.
Dresses: The Brand's Signature Piece
This is where Amy Lynn really lives. The sequin mini dresses, wrap styles, and cut-out bodycon pieces are what people come here for — and I get it, they look incredible. The stretch fabric has good recovery, so the dresses move well, but they are designed to sit close. I had a client last New Year's Eve who was a true UK 10, but we ended up in a 12 for the Amy Lynn sequin mini because the bust was just too tight across. She looked phenomenal once we got the right size. Moral of the story: measure your bust first — that's your guide for Amy Lynn dresses.
If you're fuller in the bust relative to your waist, size to your bust
If you have curves at the hips, particularly in the shorter bodycon styles, go up
Wrap dresses are slightly more forgiving and tend to be truer to size
Co-ords and Tops
The co-ord sets — usually a cropped top and mini skirt or trousers — are a real strength of the brand. The good news here is you can mix sizes if needed; many women find they need one size in the top and another in the skirt. The crop tops in particular come up narrow across the shoulders and chest, so if you have broader shoulders or a fuller bust, size up on top without hesitation. The skirts and trousers tend to be more generous and often fit true to size, or even slightly large through the waist.
What About Petite and Extended Sizing?

Amy Lynn's size range goes up to an 18 on most styles, though availability varies by piece and sell-out speed is fast. The brand doesn't currently offer a dedicated petite range — if you're under 5'3", those mini dresses will hit a bit longer than intended, which honestly isn't the worst thing if you prefer a little more coverage. The brand doesn't run extended plus sizing beyond an 18 at time of writing, which is a gap worth noting if you're shopping for a larger group.
Quality and Fabric: Does It Live Up to the Price?
For the price point, yes — genuinely. The sequin dresses hold up well to a night out, the embellishments don't shed excessively (a genuine concern with cheaper sequin pieces), and the fabrics feel more substantial than you'd expect. That said, these are not investment pieces. They're party dresses, not forever dresses. Wash them carefully — most are hand wash or delicate cycle only — and they'll last you several seasons without issue.

Not every piece will work for every body, and sizing inconsistencies can be genuinely frustrating. Here are some brilliant alternatives across different price points:
High Street Options:
River Island — Consistently brilliant for party dresses with a similar aesthetic to Amy Lynn; often more size-inclusive and with strong customer reviews on fit across their occasionwear range
ASOS — The ASOS Design occasionwear range covers similar territory at a comparable price, with a much broader size range including petite, tall, and curve
Topshop (now via ASOS) — Still one of the best for that going-out aesthetic, especially sequin and metallic pieces that sit in the same party-dress space
Urban Outfitters — Great for the slightly more alternative party look; strong on co-ords and occasionwear with a fashion-forward, independent-brand edge
Warehouse — Underrated for party season; their occasion dresses are well-cut and tend to run closer to true UK sizing than Amy Lynn
Oasis — Brilliant for sequin and embellished pieces with strong customer reviews and consistent sizing across their party edit
Coast — If your occasion is slightly more formal, Coast is outstanding for embellished dresses that still have real fashion feeling without veering into safe territory
Two Independent Picks Worth Knowing About:
Oh Polly — A Leeds-based brand doing very similar bodycon and occasion dressing to Amy Lynn, often with more detailed size guidance on product pages and slightly more consistent sizing. Excellent for the same aesthetic at a similar price point — and they photograph brilliantly.
Nadine Merabi — A Manchester-based designer specialising in elevated sequin and embellished occasionwear with a near-couture finish. More expensive, but the sizing is meticulous and the quality is exceptional. Worth saving up for a truly special occasion.
Premium:
Reiss — Beautiful occasion pieces with precise sizing and excellent fabric quality; a clear step up from Amy Lynn in terms of construction and longevity
Ted Baker — Strong for embellished and occasion wear with a consistent, true-to-size fit and a more grown-up take on the party dress
Luxury / Designer:
Roland Mouret — The gold standard for a sculpted, bodycon occasion dress at the designer level; sizing is precise and the craftsmanship is genuinely incomparable
Self-Portrait — The designer equivalent of Amy Lynn's party aesthetic; intricate, beautiful occasionwear with proper sizing consistency and a piece that will last years rather than seasons
