What Is Sizing Like at Arket?

Arket comes up true to size — order your normal size and it'll fit. But there's a crucial caveat that trips people up: the house cut is roomier and boxier than the average British high-street brand. Nordic design leans into ease and volume, so a lot of pieces are built to sit away from the body rather than hug it. That's not a fault, it's the aesthetic. The trick is knowing which categories run relaxed on purpose and which stay close to your true size.

Fit by Category — What to Actually Order

Knitwear

This is where most men get caught out. Arket's jumpers — the lambswool crews, the merino roll-necks, the chunky knits — are cut with generous, unstructured volume. They're designed to drape, not cling.

  • Want that intended relaxed look? Stick to your true size and let it breathe.

  • Prefer something neater? Size down one. Their medium often wears closer to a roomy large, so a small can land bang-on if you like a trimmer line.

Shirts

The overshirts and casual shirts run relaxed and boxy — brilliant worn open over a tee, less so if you want a sharp tucked-in look. The more structured cotton and Oxford shirts are closer to true. If you're between sizes on a shirt, size down for a cleaner, more tailored result.

Trousers & Denim

Better news here — the trousers and jeans are the most predictable thing Arket makes. They're mid-to-high rise, fitted through the waist and hip, and honestly true to size. No need to size up.

  • The denim can run a touch generous in the waist, so if you're on the cusp, take the smaller one.

  • The wide and relaxed-leg styles are cut full by design — that's the silhouette, not a sizing error.

Outerwear & Coats

Like the knitwear, coats and jackets are built with a deliberately loose, layering-friendly fit and unstructured shoulders. If you're planning to wear thick jumpers underneath, your true size is spot on. If you want a leaner overcoat that skims rather than swamps, size down — especially if you're on the shorter side, because the length runs long.

T-shirts & Tailoring

The everyday tees are slightly roomy but sit near standard sizing — take your normal size, or go up one if you specifically want that boxy, dropped-shoulder look. The tailored and blazer pieces are the exception to all the looseness: they're properly structured and fit accurately to your chest and shoulder measurement, so trust your usual number there.

Marcus's rule of thumb: If a piece is soft and unstructured — knitwear, overshirts, coats — Arket has built room into it, so size down if you want it neat. If a piece is structured — tailoring, trousers, Oxford shirts — take your true size and don't overthink it.

How I'd Style It

Arket is a stylist's dream precisely because it's so restrained. The whole point is quiet, considered dressing, so let the fit do the talking:

  • Lean into the volume up top, keep it clean below. A relaxed knit or overshirt reads far better balanced against a slimmer trouser and a clean trainer or leather boot.

  • Build in tonal neutrals. Three colours max — stone, navy and off-white will carry an entire capsule. Arket's palette is engineered for exactly this.

  • Let good fabric be the flex. A merino roll-neck under an unstructured blazer looks quietly expensive. No logos, no fuss.

Brands to Know If You Love Arket

Post Image

Arket rarely lives in a wardrobe alone — it's the anchor for a whole minimalist, quality-first way of dressing. Here are the brands I steer clients towards when they want to build around it, across three tiers.

High Street

  • Weekday — Arket's sister label within the same group and the natural denim companion. Sharper, more youthful, Scandi-cool cuts; the jeans in particular are excellent value and share the same true-to-size logic.

  • Massimo Dutti — the go-to when you want Arket's elevated feel with a touch more Mediterranean polish. Superb knitwear and smart trousers, cut a little closer to the body if you find Arket too roomy.

Independent & Boutique

  • ASKET — a Swedish label built entirely on permanent, no-season essentials with a genuine size-and-length grid. If Arket's boxiness frustrates you, ASKET's precise fits are the answer, and the ethos is even more considered.

  • Sunspel — the British benchmark for a perfect tee and elevated cotton basics. Where Arket runs relaxed, Sunspel runs refined; the two layer together beautifully.

  • NN.07 (No Nationality) — Danish, grown-up, quietly stylish. Brilliant knitwear and easy tailoring that slots straight into an Arket-led wardrobe, with a slightly more tailored line through the body.

Designer & Luxury

  • Our Legacy — the Swedish step-up from Arket, and the one I recommend most. Same minimalist DNA, elevated fabrics and cut, with the interesting proportions that make an outfit look intentional rather than plain.

  • Officine Générale — French elevated-everyday done impeccably. Unstructured tailoring and soft shirting that give you Arket's ease with real designer-level construction.

  • Lemaire — the quiet-luxury endgame for anyone who loves Arket's relaxed volumes. Fluid, architectural, and built around exactly the kind of generous silhouette Arket hints at, executed at the highest level.

Never Guess Your Arket Size Again

Here's the thing about a brand that runs true-to-size-but-roomy: the size guide alone won't tell you whether you should size down. That's exactly what Tellar was built to solve — the UK's leading free sizing tool, matching your actual body to 1,500+ brands in seconds.

  • Measure once — chest, waist and hip, or just enter your size in a brand you already own.
