How Moncler sizing works

Moncler is where people come unstuck, because the outerwear doesn't use S/M/L at all. It uses a numbered system, and for women it runs roughly like this: 0 is an XXS–XS, 1 is a small, 2 is a medium, 3 is a large, 4 is an XL and 5 is an XXL.

The catch is that those numbers are cut lean. A Moncler 3 might be badged "large," but its chest measurement comes in under what most brands call a medium. The jackets are designed with fitted shoulders and chest and a slightly boxy waist, so the silhouette only works if the top half isn't straining.

For the classic glossy puffers, most people are best ordering one size up from their instinct, especially if they want a jumper underneath.

The North Face — the Nuptse is the genuine technical-luxury crossover; roomy and built for real cold.
Sandro — Parisian puffers with a fashion edge; cut slim and small, so take the size up.
