What Is Sizing Like at CK Jeans?

CK Jeans runs slightly large — particularly in their denim — and for most styles you'll want to size down by at least half a size, sometimes a full one, to get that clean, tailored CK fit.
I've been dressing clients in Calvin Klein denim for years, and this is one of those brands that genuinely trips people up at first. On paper, you'd think a classic American heritage label would be a straightforward, true-to-size affair. In practice, it's a little more nuanced than that — and getting it wrong means jeans that gap at the waist or bag at the knees within an hour of wearing them. Not a good look. Let me walk you through exactly what to expect.
The CK Jeans Fit Philosophy
CK Jeans is the diffusion denim line sitting beneath Calvin Klein's mainline collection, and it carries that classic American sportswear DNA through and through. The cuts are designed with a generous, comfortable silhouette — think relaxed proportions rather than European precision. That's not a criticism at all; for a lot of people, that ease of fit is exactly why they love it. But it does mean you need to know how to shop the brand.
The most important thing to understand is that CK Jeans uses US numeric waist sizing — so you're looking at measurements like 26, 27, 28, 29, 30, 31 rather than the UK 8, 10, 12 system. Don't let that put you off; once you know your waist measurement in inches it's actually quite precise. As a rough guide:
UK 6–8 → W25–W26
UK 10 → W27–W28
UK 12 → W29–W30
UK 14 → W31–W32
That said, knowing your waist measurement is just the starting point. The fit varies quite a bit depending on the style you're buying.
Does CK Jeans Run Big? Breaking It Down by Style
Short answer: yes, for most styles, the jeans run on the generous side. Here's what I've consistently found with clients:
Relaxed and straight-leg fits — these run notably large, often a full size up. I always tell clients to size down here without hesitation. The 90s-inspired straight cuts in particular are designed with a lot of room, so if you buy your usual size they can look baggy and shapeless rather than coolly oversized.
Skinny and slim-fit styles — closer to true to size, but still cut generously through the waist. You might find yourself between sizes here; if that happens, size down.
Mom jeans and high-rise styles — size down. The waistband tends to be quite roomy and the low-rise and mid-rise versions in particular are notorious for gaping at the back.
Flared and wide-leg cuts — size down by at least one full size in the waist; the leg opening is intentionally exaggerated so the waist is your only anchor point.
💡 Ella's rule of thumb: If you're in any doubt with CK Jeans, always go down a size. I have never had a client regret sizing down — I have had plenty regret not doing it.
What About Fabric — Does It Stretch?
CK Jeans loves a cotton-elastane blend, which is great for comfort and movement, but it does mean the jeans will relax and stretch out as you wear them. If you're buying a stretch denim style and they feel ever so slightly snug when you first try them on, that's actually fine — they'll ease out beautifully over the first few wears.
Pure cotton denim is a different story. If you find a CK style in 100% cotton (less common these days but it does come up), expect it to stretch by roughly half a size after breaking in. That's your green light to size down from the off.
One thing I genuinely appreciate about CK Jeans is the quality of their denim fabric — the weight and wash finishes hold up really well over time. I had a pair of their dark rinse straight-legs that I wore to death and they still looked crisp two years in. Good value for the price point, honestly.
CK Jeans Tops, Knitwear & The Rest

Jeans aside, the rest of the CK Jeans line follows a slightly different logic — and this is where I've seen clients trip up in the opposite direction.
T-shirts and jersey tops — run generous in the body; go down a size if you want a fitted look, stick to your usual if you prefer relaxed.
Knitwear and sweatshirts — actually run closer to true to size or even slightly fitted in the shoulders. Don't make the mistake of sizing down here thinking you'll get the same result as with the denim. I made a client do exactly that with a CK sweatshirt once and we both had a good laugh when it arrived looking like a children's jumper.
Jackets and outerwear — true to size, with a slightly boxy American fit. If you're layering underneath, go up.
High Street Alternatives to CK Jeans
CK Jeans sits in a sweet spot — it's accessible luxury denim without the truly eye-watering price tag. But if you're looking for similar vibes at a range of budgets, here's where I'd point you:
High Street Picks:
Levi's — the original point of comparison for CK. Iconic 501s and the newer ribcage straight are consistently brilliant. Tend to run true to size but check each cut individually.
Mango — one of the best high street options for well-cut straight-leg and wide-leg denim right now. Their denim quality has improved enormously in recent years.
Abercrombie & Fitch — genuinely excellent jeans, and their sizing is incredibly detailed online. A direct rival to CK Jeans in terms of aesthetic — clean, American-influenced, well-made.
Zara — a bit hit-and-miss across styles but their TRF denim line delivers. Strong on trend-led washes and cuts.
ASOS — enormous range, and their own-brand denim is solid at the price point. Great if you need a specific leg length or are hard to fit.
Whistles — brilliant for a more polished, grown-up denim wardrobe. Their straight and barrel-leg cuts are especially good and beautifully finished.
Reiss — moves into the smarter end of denim — great for jeans you can genuinely wear to the office or a restaurant. More fitted than CK, so check sizing carefully.
Cos — for a sleeker, more architectural take on denim basics. Runs small, so size up from your CK size.
Independent & Left-Field Picks:
Boyish Jeans — a small, sustainable denim brand making beautifully crafted jeans in organic and recycled fabrics. The silhouettes are relaxed and timeless — very much in the CK spirit but with a much cleaner ethical footprint. Worth every penny.
Triarchy — a Canadian independent label making some of the most sustainably produced denim on the market. Their stretch denim is incredibly flattering and the quality rivals brands three times the price. A genuinely brilliant under-the-radar find.
Premium Picks:
Citizens of Humanity — premium California denim with seriously flattering cuts. If you love the CK relaxed fit but want an upgrade in fabric and finish, this is your brand.
Paige — a Hollywood favourite for a reason. Exceptional stretch denim, incredible fit, and a range of styles to suit every shape. Worth the investment.
Luxury & Designer:
Frame — exquisite denim with a clean Parisian feel. The Le Sylvie straight is a masterclass in timeless fit.
Totême — Swedish minimalism at its best. Their denim range is small but perfectly formed, with impeccable construction and a slightly more relaxed, understated aesthetic than CK.
The Bottom Line on CK Jeans Sizing
CK Jeans is a brilliant brand with a strong aesthetic identity, but it rewards those who understand its quirks. Size down in denim — always. Be more cautious with knitwear and structured tops. And if you're buying online and can't try before you buy, use a sizing tool to take the guesswork out of it entirely. Speaking of which…
