What Is Sizing Like at Collective The Label?

Collective The Label is a British womenswear brand established in 2023 and based in Manchester, specialising in limited-run, statement party-wear pieces including mini dresses, sequin co-ords, skirts, tops, and jumpsuits.

Right, let's talk about this brand. I have a real soft spot for Collective The Label — it's the kind of label that pops up on your Instagram and you immediately think, "I need that dress for my mate's birthday." It's proper party-wear: bold silhouettes, sequins, satin, statement prints — all very much designed to turn heads. The brand only launched in 2023 but it's already carved out a solid niche in the UK party dress space, sitting somewhere between Oh Polly and the more dressed-up end of ASOS. But how does it actually size up? Let me break it down for you.

Collective The Label Size Conversion Chart

Collective The Label uses standard UK sizing and, good news — the brand describes its fit as true to size. Their own sizing guidance notes that if you're between two sizes, sizing up will give you a floatier, more relaxed finish, which honestly suits a lot of their draped and ruched styles really well.

ELLA'S TIPAlways measure yourself before ordering from Collective The Label — their size guide is image-based on their website, so having your actual bust, waist, and hip measurements to hand makes sizing a lot easier. If your measurements sit between two sizes, the brand recommends going up, particularly on their more structured or bandeau styles.

Fit Breakdown by Garment

The beauty of Collective The Label is that they do several different categories of occasionwear, and the fit can vary slightly between them. Here's what I'd expect from each:

Dresses (Mini, Midi & Maxi)

This is the heart of the brand — and honestly where they shine. Their mini dresses in particular tend to be true to size, with a lot of stretch built in through the fabric blends. If you're buying one of their ruched or bandeau styles, I'd take your waist and hip measurements quite seriously because the stretch can only do so much.

  • Bodycon-style minis — go true to size; they're designed to skim the body

  • Tiered or ruffle minis — these have more room so true to size or even size down if you want definition

  • Satin midis — size up if in between as satin is unforgiving and shows every line

  • Maxi dresses — generally more relaxed, true to size works well

I once ordered a satin midi in my usual size for a work Christmas do and I wished I'd sized up — the fabric across the seat was tighter than I'd have liked. Lesson learned. Always check the fabric composition before committing!

Skirts

Their mini and midi skirts follow the same principle as the dresses. For bodycon styles, true to size is the call. For wider-leg or pleated midi skirts, their standard sizing tends to be generous enough that you can go true to size comfortably. If your hips are on the larger side relative to your waist, size to your hips — you can always belt a waistband.

Tops & Bodysuits

Their crop tops and bodysuits tend to run true to size, though if you have a fuller bust I'd suggest sizing up on anything bandeau or strapless. The stretch in most of their tops is good, but the chest area on structured bodysuits can be snug. I'd rather have a slightly roomier bodysuit than one I'm adjusting all night, honestly — been there, done that.

Co-ords

Post Image

Co-ords are brilliant for matching the look of the brand across two pieces, but the usual rule applies: if you're buying a co-ord set, size to your larger measurement (usually hips) and don't be afraid to mix sizes within a set if they're sold as separates. Collective The Label do list co-ords as matched pieces, so if you're a standard build you should be fine going true to size throughout.

Jumpsuits & Playsuits

Jumpsuits are the trickiest category at any brand — Collective's are no exception. I'd recommend sizing to your widest point (hips) and going true to size or one up if you have a longer torso. A playsuit that's too short through the body is never a comfortable night out. Trust me on this one.

Brands Similar to Collective The Label

If Collective The Label is sold out in your size, or you're after something with a similar vibe, here are my top picks — starting with the high street options and moving up to the more investment-worthy end of the market.

HIGH STREET & AFFORDABLE ALTERNATIVES

  • Oh Polly — Probably the closest match in terms of aesthetic and target customer. Oh Polly does the same sort of figure-hugging party dresses with sequins and satin, and they have a really solid size guide. A firm favourite of mine.

  • Missyempire — Another Manchester brand doing very similar statement party-wear at accessible prices. Great range of co-ords and bodycon minis.

  • AX Paris — Brilliant for occasion and party dresses at high street prices, with a solid range of sizes. Tends to be true to size and widely available.

  • Chi Chi London — If you love the occasion-wear angle, Chi Chi London does stunning embellished and lace styles that are a step up from fast fashion in terms of finish.

  • Quiz — Widely available across the UK both online and in shops, Quiz has a solid party-wear section with sequin, metallic, and satin dresses at very friendly prices.

  • Little Mistress — Brilliant for weddings, graduations, and big nights out. Really lovely textured and embellished styles with inclusive sizing.

  • NaaNaa — A UK party-wear brand that flies slightly under the radar but consistently delivers bold going-out dresses at competitive prices. Well worth bookmarking.

  • Jaded London — If you love the bold sequin and party aesthetic but want something a bit edgier and more alternative, Jaded London delivers in spades.

INDEPENDENT & NICHE PICKS

  • Lavish Alice — A UK-based independent label that does elevated occasionwear with a more sophisticated finish. Think structured blazer dresses, tailored co-ords, and luxe fabrics. Great if you want the party-wear look without screaming "going out outfit." I've recommended this brand to so many clients over the years.

  • Lace & Beads — A UK indie label specialising in embellished and beaded party dresses. Proper one-of-a-kind designs with a real craft-led feel. If you want something that doesn't look like it came off a production line, this is your brand.

PREMIUM & LUXURY ALTERNATIVES

  • Self-Portrait — If you're ready to invest in a dress you'll wear to every occasion for the next five years, Self-Portrait is where I'd point you. Chic, tailored, and always occasion-appropriate without being boring.

  • Needle & Thread — For more romantic, embellished occasion pieces that feel special and elevated. Their sizing runs a little small, so always check the measurements.

  • ROTATE Birger Christensen — The ultimate occasion-wear brand if you want that fashion-forward party dress look with genuinely high-end construction. Their mini dresses in particular are outstanding.

My Overall Verdict on Collective The Label Sizing

Collective The Label is a true-to-size brand in the main. The key things to keep in mind are:

  • Always measure your bust, waist, and hips before ordering — their size guide is visual rather than text-based, so having your numbers ready saves time

  • If you're between sizes, the brand itself recommends sizing up for a floatier finish on dresses

  • On structured or bodycon styles, true to size is the safer bet

  • For jumpsuits and playsuits, account for torso length and size to your hips

  • Satin and non-stretch fabrics are less forgiving — take the extra 30 seconds to measure

It's a young brand — launched in 2023 — but they're putting out really compelling party-wear and I think they'll continue to grow. The limited-run model means pieces sell fast, so if something catches your eye, don't wait too long. And when in doubt? Size up. A slightly more relaxed party dress is infinitely better than one that's cutting off your circulation by midnight.
