What is Sizing Like at Dippin' Daisys?

SWIMWEAR SIZING GUIDE

By Ella Blake — Fashion Stylist  |  Tellar Fashion Hub — Always honest, unbiased & unsponsored

Dippin' Daisys generally runs true to US sizing — but as a UK shopper, that means you'll almost certainly need to size up by one, and in some styles, two sizes compared to your usual British high street fit.

I've been obsessing over their scrunch bikinis for a couple of summers now, and my first order was a classic 'measure, panic, order wrong size' situation. I'd gone with my UK 10 — naturally — only to find the bottoms felt like they belonged to a slightly more optimistic version of myself. The lesson? US-origin brands play by different rules, and Dippin' Daisys is no exception. Once I'd figured out the sizing logic, though, I was completely converted.

Here's everything you need to know before you click add to basket.

The Brand in Brief

Dippin' Daisys is a California-born, female-founded swimwear and lifestyle label that's been quietly winning over bikini obsessives for years. They do bold bikinis, sculptural one-pieces, cover-ups, and a little bit of resort-ready loungewear — all made with sustainability in mind and a serious eye for on-trend silhouettes. The sizing runs from XS right through to 3X, which is genuinely good to see from a brand in this space. The fabrics are standout too: that signature scrunch material (which has a stretch of about 10/10, according to the brand itself) is practically forgiving by design.

Does Dippin' Daisys Run Small, Large, or True to Size?

The short answer: it runs true to US sizing — which means it runs small compared to UK sizing. In practical terms, most UK shoppers will want to size up by one, and if you're between sizes or have a curvier figure, sizing up by two is not an overreaction.

🇬🇧 Dippin' Daisys UK Size Conversion (Approximate)

  • XS → UK 4–6

  • S → UK 8–10

  • M → UK 12–14

  • L → UK 16–18

  • XL → UK 18–20

  • 1X → UK 20–22

  • 2X → UK 24–26

Always check your actual bust, waist, and hip measurements against their size chart — don't rely solely on dress size comparisons.

Bikini Tops: What to Expect

Tops are the more straightforward of the two. They tend to sit close to true to size — so if you're a UK 10, a Small will generally work well for your bust. That said, coverage is quite minimal across a lot of their triangle and scoop styles, so if you're a fuller bust (anything above a C cup), I'd recommend going up a size regardless of what the chart says. These tops are pretty, but they're not structured — there's no underwire, no moulded cup, just soft fabric and a good knot. Beautiful on a smaller bust; a little precarious on anything bigger.

The scrunch and sequin fabrics have significant stretch — great news if you're between sizes — while the gingham styles are a bit more structured and less forgiving, so measure carefully before ordering those.

Bikini Bottoms: Definitely Size Up

This is where I've seen the most complaints — and where I personally went wrong. The bottoms at Dippin' Daisys run notably snug, especially on the hips and across the seat. If you're a UK 10, you might find a Small technically fits but feels uncomfortably tight — especially in the cheeky and Brazilian cuts, which are already designed to sit high and reveal more of the hip.

My honest advice? Go up one size from whatever the chart suggests for the bottoms. If you're particularly curvy through the hips, go up two. You can always tie the strings tighter; you cannot un-squish yourself out of a too-small pair of bikini bottoms at the airport.

One-Pieces: Check Your Torso Length

One-pieces are gorgeous but come with one key caveat — they can run short in the torso, which means if you're tall (5'7" and above) or long in the body, you may find them pulling uncomfortably in the crotch area. Not a good look, and more importantly, not a comfortable feeling when you're trying to relax poolside. I'd suggest checking torso measurements carefully, and if you're on the tall side, always read the reviews for the specific style you're eyeing up before ordering.

Cover-Ups and Loungewear

Post Image

Their dresses, cover-ups, and loungewear pieces are generally true to size and a bit more forgiving than the swimwear. The lightweight rayon and viscose fabrics drape beautifully and have some natural ease built in, so you're unlikely to go wrong. If anything, I'd say some of the floatier styles come up slightly generous — which is a nice change of pace after battling my way into a bikini bottom.

High Street Alternatives Worth Knowing About

If the US sizing complexity puts you off — or you simply want more accessible sizing for UK bodies — these high street brands do brilliant swimwear with much more predictable fit:

  • M&S — A perennial favourite for a reason. Brilliant range of well-engineered bikinis and swimsuits across cup sizes, with sizing that actually behaves itself. The Secret Slimming range is genuinely impressive.

  • ASOS — Enormous choice, solid size guide, and user reviews you can filter by fit — incredibly useful when you're unsure between sizes. They also carry Dippin' Daisys itself, so you can use their reviews as a sizing benchmark.

  • Zara — Consistently stylish swimwear each season, and their sizing is relatively consistent. Worth checking their conversion chart if you're a 10/12 as they can come up slightly small too.

  • H&M — Brilliant value with a genuinely wide size range. Their sustainable swimwear collection is solid too if eco-credentials matter to you.

  • Next — Especially good if you're shopping for supportive cup-sized bikini tops. Their fit really does work for fuller busts in a way that triangle tops simply don't.

  • River Island — Great for trendy, vacation-worthy styles at an accessible price. Their sizing is generally consistent and the range skews toward bold prints and flattering cuts.

  • New Look — Often overlooked but genuinely good for swimwear basics and colourful prints. Great for petite and plus sizes too.

  • Sweaty Betty — If you want serious performance swimwear that won't budge in the water, Sweaty Betty is your answer. Premium price point, but the fit and fabric quality are exceptional.

  • Urban Outfitters — Carries a mix of their own label and third-party brands. Great for the same kind of festival-meets-beach aesthetic that Dippin' Daisys does so well.

Two Independent Brands to Discover

If you want something a bit more under-the-radar — the kind of bikini nobody else at the pool will be wearing — these two are worth bookmarking:

  • Wolf & Whistle — A brilliant UK-based brand that champions size inclusivity with genuinely beautiful, fashion-forward swimwear. Their prints are stunning and their sizing is refreshingly true to UK bodies. A personal favourite of mine for holidays where I actually want to feel like myself.

  • Cossie + Co — A sustainable UK swimwear brand doing thoughtful, considered designs in recycled fabrics. Smaller collection, but every piece feels curated. Sizing is clear and customer reviews are detailed, which makes ordering online much less stressful.

Premium Picks

For a step up in quality and fit finish, Hunza G is the gold standard of one-size crinkle swimwear that fits virtually everyone (their one-size model is genuinely incredible for curvier figures). Seafolly is an Australian brand with excellent sizing and a wide range of structured styles, and Melissa Odabash does beautifully tailored swimwear with exceptional quality control.

Luxury & Designer Options

If budget is no object, Zimmermann does the most exquisite printed swimwear — though do note they run small and sizing up is nearly always required. Eres is a French label beloved by stylists for its refined cuts and exceptional construction. And Heidi Klein is a luxury British brand with some of the best-fitting swimwear I've ever tried — sizing is consistent, the fabrics are gorgeous, and they actually seem to understand the female body.
