What Is Sizing Like at Dusk?

Dusk runs true to standard UK sizing — which is genuinely good news for a brand offering such a wide range of styles. Founded in 2020 as a sister brand to Roman Originals, Dusk is a West Midlands-born womenswear label built around the idea that fashion should be wearable, affordable, and actually flattering in real life — not just on a sample size model. After having a proper look through their collections, I'd say they largely deliver on that promise. But there are still a few things worth knowing before you order.

About Dusk: The Brand in Brief

If you haven't discovered Dusk yet, it's worth your time. The brand describes itself as being designed for "the young professional, the modern mother, and the fashion lover" — which, honestly, covers most of us at some point in the week. The collections take high street trend inspiration and translate it into something actually wearable: feminine dresses, easy jumpsuits, knitwear, and smart-casual separates at prices that won't make you wince. Pieces typically sit between £24 and £75, with dresses being the hero category.

One thing I really appreciate is the size inclusivity. Dusk offers sizes 6 through 24, which is more generous than many brands at this price point. That matters — both practically and in terms of how a brand thinks about its customer.

Does Dusk Run True to Size?

Yes — based on their size guide and the brand's heritage via Roman Originals (which has a long-standing reputation for consistent, inclusive sizing), Dusk follows standard UK sizing. This means if you're a UK 12 in M&S or Next, you should be a UK 12 in Dusk. There's no need to routinely size up or down across the board.

That said, fit always depends on the specific garment, the fabric, and the silhouette. Below is a general reference for Dusk's UK sizing:

Ella's tip: Always measure your bust, waist, and hips before ordering online — even from brands you know well. Your measurements can shift seasonally (hello, winter comfort eating — no judgement), and checking them takes two minutes and saves a return.

Dresses: The Star Category

Dresses are where Dusk really shines, and they've clearly put thought into cuts that work across a range of body shapes. From fit-and-flare styles and chiffon midi dresses to bodycon and shift options, there's a real breadth here. The majority of their dresses are designed with some ease and flow, which means they're forgiving rather than clingy — a huge plus if you're between sizes or carry more of your shape in one area.

  • Fit-and-flare and A-line dresses: order your true size — the defined waist and flared skirt do the work for you

  • Bodycon or wrap styles: if you're fuller on the bust or hips, size up one — these styles reward a slightly roomier fit

  • Chiffon and floaty styles: true to size, but these tend to be more forgiving anyway so there's a little wiggle room

  • Sequin or embellished styles: go true to size — these often have structured underlining that holds its shape

Tops and Knitwear

Dusk's tops range from fitted peplum styles to more relaxed jersey pieces and knitwear. I'd say their tops tend toward a slightly relaxed fit rather than a skin-tight one, which again makes them easy to wear. If you prefer things fitted, you might want to size down on looser jersey pieces — but for most styles your standard size will be exactly right. Their knitwear is cosy rather than cropped, which I think is a sensible call for a British winter.

Trousers and Skirts

The trouser range leans smart-casual — think wide-leg options, pull-on trousers with elasticated waists, and tailored-ish styles that work for the office or a lunch out. The elasticated waist on many styles makes sizing very straightforward — go by your hip measurement rather than your waist for the most comfortable result. Skirts similarly tend to have stretch waistbands or wrap fastenings that give a little flex. I'd say order true to size across the board here.

Jumpsuits

Post Image

Jumpsuits are trickier at the best of times, and Dusk's are no exception — not because they're badly designed, but because the jump from bust to hip in a single garment is always a fit challenge. My advice: size for your largest measurement (usually hips or bust) and consider a belt to nip the waist in if needed. If you're petite, be aware that the torso length may run a little long — a simple tuck works wonders.

Jackets and Coats

Dusk's outerwear is designed to layer, so there's generally some ease built in. Order true to size for wearing over knitwear, or size down if you'll mostly be layering over thinner tops. The price points here are particularly strong — this is a brand worth knowing for transitional-season pieces especially.

Petite and Plus Size Fit Notes

Dusk's size range running from 6 to 24 is a real strength. I haven't seen a specific petite line, so if you're under 5'4" be aware that dresses and jumpsuits may run long — hem adjustments might be needed. For the plus size range, the brand's relaxed and floaty silhouettes work particularly well through sizes 18–24, and the elasticated waistbands on many bottoms mean you're sizing by shape rather than fighting rigid fastenings.

Similar Brands Worth Shopping

If you love the Dusk aesthetic — feminine, occasion-ready, trend-aware but not trying too hard — here are brands I'd genuinely put in your basket alongside it:

High street picks:

  • Monsoon — a brilliant alternative for floral and occasion-ready dresses with a similar feminine sensibility. Particularly good for wedding guest options and midi lengths.

  • River Island — strong on trend-led dresses and evening tops at a comparable price point. Their bodycon and wrap dresses are consistently well reviewed.

  • Coast — if you like Dusk's occasion pieces, Coast is the natural step up. More structured, a little more formal, still very wearable.

  • Warehouse — great for smart-casual dresses and tops with a slightly more editorial edge. Consistent sizing and good quality for the price.

  • Oliver Bonas — underrated for feminine dresses and occasionwear. The prints are beautiful and the sizing tends to be generous.

  • Great Plains — brilliant for easy, everyday womenswear in lovely fabrics. The jersey dresses in particular are brilliantly cut and last forever.

  • Hush — for when you want the Dusk relaxed-feminine aesthetic but with slightly more considered, elevated basics. Their midi dresses and knitwear are excellent.

  • Mint Velvet — a step up in price but comparable in sensibility. Beautiful for women who want trend-aware pieces with a polished finish. Their jumpsuits are particularly strong.

And two independent labels I think you'll love:

  • Nobody's Child — a brilliant ethical British womenswear brand with a very similar aesthetic to Dusk: feminine prints, floaty midi dresses, wearable occasionwear. Sustainably made and wonderfully sized across XS–3XL. Find them at nobodyschild.com and John Lewis.

  • Baukjen — a considered, sustainably-led British brand with beautiful jersey separates and dresses that translate effortlessly from desk to dinner. If you like Dusk's day-to-night ethos but want something a little more premium in feel, Baukjen is exactly where to look.
