What is Sizing Like at Ei8th Hour?

Ei8th Hour runs true to size on the label — but because the brand is built almost entirely around bodycon and form-fitting silhouettes, I'd strongly advise sizing up if you're between sizes or if you want anything other than a genuinely tight fit.
I first discovered Ei8th Hour the way most of us do: buried in an ASOS scroll somewhere around midnight, running out of options for a friend's birthday dinner. I'd been trawling through safe midi dresses for what felt like hours when a zebra-print cut-out mini with a thigh-high split appeared on my screen and suddenly everything made sense again. I ordered my usual size, it arrived, I tried it on, and immediately knew I needed to go up one. The fabric was stretching in places fabric really shouldn't stretch. Lesson very firmly learned. This brand is one where the label size is technically correct — it's the cut that does the work, and that cut is tight.
What Is Ei8th Hour?
Ei8th Hour is an ASOS-exclusive brand — genuinely not available anywhere else — and it occupies the high-drama, statement occasion wear space with total commitment. Think bold tropical prints, metallic co-ords, cut-out bodycon minis, slinky jumpsuits and floor-grazing maxi dresses with splits that mean business. This is not a brand you go to for a quiet Sunday lunch look. It's a brand you go to when you want to walk into a room and own it.
The price point is refreshingly accessible — this is ASOS territory, not designer — which makes it brilliant value for the kind of impact it delivers. Quality-wise, the fabrics are stretchy and do the job well when the fit is right. The brand's whole identity is body-confidence, and when the sizing works, it absolutely delivers on that promise.
The Honest Truth About How It Fits
Ei8th Hour uses standard UK sizing and the label measurements aren't dramatically off. The issue isn't the numbers — it's the silhouette. Almost every piece in the collection is deliberately cut close to the body. There's stretch in the fabric, but it's working hard. Here's my practical guide:
If you sit solidly in the middle of your usual size, order your normal size — it should work well.
If you're at the larger end of a size — especially through the bust or hips — size up without any hesitation.
If you're between sizes, always go up. The difference between "perfectly sculpted" and "slightly stuffed" is exactly one size in Ei8th Hour.
The jumpsuits are the trickiest pieces in the range — if you have a longer torso or a fuller bust, size up by one. More on this below.
Petite shoppers: the minis are genuinely short. Beautiful on taller frames, but be prepared for a very high hemline on a shorter figure.
Stylist tip: Always check the model's listed height and size on every Ei8th Hour product page on ASOS before ordering. Models are typically listed as wearing a UK 8 — if you know your own proportions relative to theirs, that information will tell you far more than the size label alone ever will.
Sizing by Garment Type
Bodycon & cut-out mini dresses — The brand's signature pieces and the tightest fit in the collection. Cut-out details look incredible when the size is exactly right, but there's genuinely no room for error. If there's any doubt at all, size up.
Maxi dresses — Slightly more forgiving through the waist and mid-section, particularly in the ruched or draped styles. The bust and hip area is still fitted, so the same advice applies. If the maxi has a zip-back closure, check customer reviews before ordering — zip-back bodices in bodycon maxis leave no wiggle room whatsoever.
Jumpsuits — The most difficult garment to size for in the whole collection, particularly for anyone with a longer torso or fuller chest. The most consistent feedback in customer reviews is tightness across the chest or through the crotch seam. Size up for jumpsuits and don't look back.
Co-ords — The crop-top-and-skirt co-ord sets are actually the most flexible pieces in the range precisely because you can split the sizing. If you're a different size on top versus bottom — which is completely normal — this is a genuinely brilliant option for that reason.
Which Body Shapes Does Ei8th Hour Suit?

Ei8th Hour is genuinely excellent on hourglass and pear shapes — the tight, fitted silhouettes are built to celebrate curves, and they do it beautifully. For straighter frames, the ruched and gathered styles will create shape where there isn't naturally much. The cut-out details suit anyone comfortable showing skin, regardless of size. If you're more generous through the bust, the ruched maxis and wrap-style dresses tend to be the most flattering options in the collection.
High Street Alternatives to Ei8th Hour
Whether the fit hasn't worked for your shape, or you simply want to explore similar bold, body-confident occasion wear, here are my top picks by tier:
HIGH STREET
River Island — The closest aesthetic match to Ei8th Hour on the high street. River Island's party edit leans into bold prints, bodycon cuts and glam details in a very similar way, and their sizing tends to be slightly more generous — making it an ideal alternative if Ei8th Hour ran tight for you.
Warehouse — Consistently underrated for going-out dressing. Warehouse does a brilliant line in slinky occasion dresses and co-ords with a slightly more polished finish than Ei8th Hour. Runs true to size with good inclusivity across the range.
New Look — Excellent if you love the Ei8th Hour vibe but want a more budget-friendly price point. Their party edit covers bodycon minis, cut-out styles and slinky going-out looks, and sizing tends to be quite generous — a good option if you're between sizes.
Monsoon — For the bold print energy without quite as much body-consciousness, Monsoon delivers beautifully — particularly if you want something with a bit more fabric and flair for summer occasions or weddings. Runs true to size.
Phase Eight — When the occasion demands something more refined but still show-stopping, Phase Eight is the answer. Their occasion dresses are elegant, well-cut and excellent for weddings, races and formal dinners. Consistent sizing — true to size across the range.
Ted Baker — A natural step up from Ei8th Hour aesthetically. Ted Baker does bold prints and glamorous silhouettes with a more polished, premium-feeling finish. Note: Ted Baker tends to run slightly small, so check reviews before ordering.
Mango — Mango's occasion and going-out edit has come on enormously. Think ruched satin midis, embellished minis and cut-out styles with a slightly more sophisticated, Mediterranean flavour. True to size and excellent quality for the price point.
INDEPENDENT PICKS — WORTH KNOWING ABOUT
Oh Polly — If you love the Ei8th Hour aesthetic, Oh Polly should be your very next stop. This UK-based brand specialises in bandage-style and bodycon occasion wear with a near-identical vibe — bold, body-confident and completely unapologetic about it. Quality feels a notch above, the size range is genuinely impressive, and they shoot campaigns with a diverse range of body shapes which gives you a much better sense of actual fit. Fair warning: Oh Polly runs similarly tight, so the size-up advice still applies.
Nadine Merabi — A Manchester-based luxury occasion wear brand that has built a devoted following almost entirely on word of mouth and Instagram. If you want the drama and confidence of Ei8th Hour but with genuine investment-piece quality — think feathered hems, heavily embellished jumpsuits and beautifully draped gowns — Nadine Merabi is the one. This is the brand the fashion crowd turns to for black tie events and high-profile weddings. Worth every penny.
PREMIUM & LUXURY
Reiss (Premium) — Reiss's fitted minis and structured occasion dresses deliver serious impact without the fast-fashion feel. The quality is noticeably better, the cuts flatter a wider range of figures, and the pieces work harder across more occasions. Runs true to size and very consistently.
Me&Em (Premium) — Me&Em has become a genuine go-to for sophisticated occasion dressing that feels effortless rather than overdone. Exceptional fabric quality, considered cuts and a colour palette that's both bold and wearable. A brilliant investment piece.
Self-Portrait (Designer) — If budget is no object and you want the ultimate glam occasion dress, Self-Portrait is simply the best in this space. Embellished minis, draped maxis and extraordinary craftsmanship. Worn constantly at high-profile weddings and events for very good reason. Runs slightly small — size up if you're between sizes.
