BRAND SIZING GUIDE

By Ella Blake – Fashion Stylist | Tellar Fashion Hub – Always honest, unbiased & unsponsored

Eleventy runs slightly small — particularly in its structured tailoring and fitted trousers — and because it uses Italian sizing, there's an extra layer of conversion to get your head around before you buy. I've watched clients hold up an Eleventy blazer in what they thought was their size, put it on, and look genuinely baffled. It happens constantly with Italian luxury brands. Once you understand the system and know which pieces run true versus which run tight, you'll stop second-guessing yourself and start shopping with real confidence.

So Who Is Eleventy, Exactly?

Founded in Milan in 2007 by Marco Baldassari, Eleventy sits in that sweet spot between accessible luxury and full-on designer — often compared to Brunello Cucinelli but at a less eye-watering price. The name itself is a play on "elevate," and the brand delivers on that promise: everything is made in Italy, logo-free, and built around what Baldassari calls "smart luxury." Think clean tailoring, beautiful cashmere knitwear, fluid trousers, and a muted colour palette of camel, stone, dusty blue and navy. It's the kind of brand where the clothes do the talking purely through fabric and cut — not branding or noise. It's been cropping up in Selfridges and on Farfetch with increasing frequency, and once you've tried one piece, you'll understand why it has such a devoted following.

The Italian Sizing System: Your Quick Cheat Sheet

Before anything else, you need to know that Eleventy uses Italian (IT) sizing. These are different from both UK and French sizes, and confusing the two is the number one reason people order the wrong thing. Here's how Italian sizing maps to UK:

Italian (IT) SizeUK SizeEU SizeUS Size366342388364401038642124084414421046164412

Some of Eleventy's knitwear and casual pieces use letter sizing (XS–L), which is a bit more forgiving. But in the core ready-to-wear and tailoring? You're working in Italian numbers. Save this table to your phone — you'll thank yourself later.

How Does Eleventy Actually Fit? Garment by Garment

This is where it gets specific — and specificity is everything when you're spending at this level. Here's my honest breakdown:

  • Blazers and jackets: This is Eleventy's signature category — the so-called "magic jacket" in laser-cut jersey is their most iconic piece. Expect a slightly narrower shoulder and a more European, close-to-the-body fit. If you have broader shoulders or prefer a relaxed look, size up. If you're fairly straight up and down, your standard IT conversion should work.

  • Trousers: This is where the sizing catches people most. Eleventy trousers are slim-cut and ankle-grazing, designed for a very tailored Italian silhouette. The waist often converts true to size, but the thigh is cut closely — if you're athletic, curvy, or fuller in the hip, go up one size without hesitation.

  • Knitwear: The cashmere and fine merino pieces are genuinely stunning, and happily, they're the most forgiving. True to size, with a soft drape that works whether you go up or stay put. These are the easiest Eleventy pieces to buy online.

  • Outerwear and coats: Often cut with a relaxed, unstructured silhouette. True to size works well here, and there's enough room to layer knits underneath without looking bulky.

  • Dresses: Structured styles can run snug through the bust and waist — particularly in non-stretch fabrics like crepe or wool blend. Check the fabric composition first. If it has no give, size up.

  • Denim: Eleventy denim uses minimal stretch and is tailored closely. I'd recommend sizing up one if you're between sizes — especially if you're fuller in the hip.

The Golden Rule for Any Italian Brand

Post Image

Italian fashion is designed for a slimmer, straighter silhouette than most UK women are used to on the high street. The cut is close to the body, the shoulders are narrow, and there's very little allowance for curves. This is not a criticism — it's just the aesthetic. The golden rule I give every client shopping Italian luxury: when in doubt, size up. It is always easier to take something in than to add fabric that isn't there.

I once ordered an Eleventy IT 42 for a client who was a solid UK 12 — beautifully cut trousers in a camel wool blend. She could barely get them over her hips. We exchanged for a 44, and they were perfect. The lesson? Don't assume your standard IT conversion will always work in more fitted categories.

Where to Shop a Similar Aesthetic — My Brand Picks by Budget

Eleventy is genuinely special, but at £400 for a jacket or £300 for a pair of trousers, it's not an everyday buy. Here are the brands I rate at every budget level for capturing that same quiet-luxury, Italian-inspired sensibility:

HIGH STREET

  • Massimo Dutti — The closest high street equivalent to Eleventy's aesthetic, without question. Beautifully made tailoring, clean silhouettes, excellent fabric quality for the price. Sizing runs true and is very consistent.

  • Cos — A cult favourite for understated, architectural dressing. The minimalist cuts and fluid fabrics echo Eleventy's quiet elegance beautifully. Reliable sizing, and brilliant for taller women.

  • Jigsaw — Criminally underrated on the British high street. Their tailored trousers and fine-knit jumpers are genuinely excellent quality, and the grown-up, unpretentious aesthetic is very Eleventy-adjacent. True to size.

  • Whistles — For the more polished pieces — blazers, fluid trousers, silk-feel blouses — Whistles consistently punches above its price point. Sizing is straightforward and very reliable.

  • Hobbs — A brilliant option if it's the tailored blazer or structured trouser look you're after. Smart, wearable, and very well cut for the British figure. True to size with a slightly more generous fit than Italian brands.

  • Reiss — For sharper tailoring on a relative budget, Reiss is hard to beat. The suiting and occasion pieces in particular have real elegance. Runs true to size, though fitted styles can be narrow at the waist.

  • Me&Em — A British brand that genuinely gets "elevated basics." Their cashmere, tailored trousers and silk blouses have a real quality feel. Sizing is generous and consistent — I wear this myself constantly.

PREMIUM

  • Max Mara — The Italian queen of clean tailoring and exceptional outerwear. If you love Eleventy's coats, you'll love Max Mara. The sizing is also Italian, so use the same conversion chart above.

  • Claudie Pierlot — French rather than Italian, but the understated elegance and beautiful fabric choices align well. A lovely midpoint between accessible and luxury. Sizing uses French numbering — runs close to true.

  • Hush — For the knitwear specifically — Hush does an exceptional job at a premium-but-accessible price. Their fine-knit merino and cashmere blends have a genuinely luxurious feel. Sizing is very true and consistent.

LUXURY / DESIGNER

  • Brunello Cucinelli — Often name-checked alongside Eleventy as the gold standard of Italian quiet luxury. Extraordinary cashmere, impeccable tailoring, and a similarly understated aesthetic. Italian sizing throughout — use the same chart.

  • Loro Piana — The absolute benchmark for Italian fabric quality, particularly in knitwear and outerwear. A step up in price from Eleventy, but the craftsmanship is unrivalled. Runs true to Italian sizing.

  • The Row — Not Italian, but shares Eleventy's clean, logo-free, let-the-quality-do-the-talking philosophy. American sizing but cut with a very European sensibility. Worth knowing if you love the aesthetic.

TWO INDIE PICKS WORTH KNOWING

I always flag a couple of brilliant smaller names — the brands that deserve far more attention than they get:

  • Closed — A German label with a devoted following among women who love quiet, well-made clothes without the noise. Their tailored trousers and fine knitwear are genuinely exceptional, and the sizing is reliable European standard. If you've never tried Closed, start now.

  • Malo — An Italian cashmere specialist that's been producing exquisite knitwear since 1972. Deeply niche, beautifully made, and with a sensibility that sits right alongside Eleventy. Italian sizing throughout — same chart applies.
