What Is Sizing Like at Everlane?

Everlane generally runs true to standard US sizing — but here's the thing UK shoppers really need to know: the brand uses American sizes, not British ones, and that conversion alone trips people up before they've even thought about fit. Add in the fact that sizing genuinely varies by category (their jeans are a whole conversation in themselves), and suddenly "just order your normal size" isn't quite the reassuring advice it sounds like. So let's actually break it down properly.
What Is Everlane, and Who Is It Really For?
If you're not already familiar, Everlane is a San Francisco-born brand that launched in 2010 on a platform of radical transparency — publishing the true cost of making every garment alongside the retail price, and championing sustainable materials before it was fashionable to do so. The aesthetic is clean, minimal, and quietly considered: think really good basics, well-cut denim, quality cashmere at an honest price point, and shoes made in ethically accredited factories.
It's a brand that's gathered a serious following among women who want a polished capsule wardrobe without the designer price tag or the disposable-fashion guilt. I've been recommending it for years to clients who want to buy less but buy better. Just — and I can't stress this enough — check your measurements before you order.
The US to UK Sizing Conversion: Start Here
Everlane sizes in US letter and number sizing. For UK shoppers, this is where the first confusion hits. As a rough guide:
Tops and T-Shirts: The Good News
This is where Everlane is most straightforward — and genuinely excellent. Their basic tees, v-necks, tanks, and long-sleeve tops in lightweight cotton and jersey are reliably true to size, with a slightly relaxed, lived-in feel that's very much intentional. The brand built its reputation on the perfect white t-shirt, and honestly? It's earned.
Classic tees and jersey tops: true to size — order your usual US equivalent
If you prefer things slightly looser or you're between sizes, size up — there's no penalty for going roomier on a t-shirt
Blouses and more structured shirts: these can run slightly large and boxy — petite wearers in particular might want to size down one
Boxy or "oversized" labelled styles: stay true to size, or size down if you want more definition — these are genuinely cut with volume in mind
Knitwear and Cashmere: Worth the Investment
I've had clients come back to me specifically about Everlane cashmere and it's consistently well received. The quality is genuinely impressive at the price point — soft, well-structured, and it holds its shape through repeated wear. Sizing here is true to size with a slightly relaxed, easy fit. If you like your knitwear snug, go down. If you like to layer, stay put or size up.
Their cashmere crew necks in particular are a wardrobe staple I return to every autumn. Order your true US size, and you'll be fine.
Denim: Read This Before You Order
Right, this is the section that could save you a return. Everlane's denim is brilliant — high-rise fits, Japanese denim options, and some genuinely flattering silhouettes — but the sizing is notably inconsistent across styles, and reviewers are very vocal about it. Here's what I've found to be true:
High-Rise Skinny / 90s Cheeky styles: these run slightly snug through the waist and hips — if you're between sizes or curvy, size up one
Wide-leg and barrel-leg styles: these tend to run large — size down, particularly in the waist
Straight-leg styles (Way-High Jean and similar): closest to true to size — start here if you're ordering Everlane denim for the first time
Kick crop and flared cuts: reviews vary — check the specific product notes on their site and lean toward sizing down if you're between sizes
Everlane's jeans sizing runs in US waist measurements (24, 25, 26, 27, 28 etc) rather than UK dress sizes, which makes them easier to shop by measurement. If you know your waist in inches, use that as your anchor.
Dresses: Easy and Reliable
Good news here — Everlane dresses are consistently true to size and tend to be forgiving in their cuts. The minimalist aesthetic means most styles skim rather than cling, which is actually quite flattering across a range of body shapes. Slip dresses, shirt dresses, and t-shirt dresses are all cut to fall cleanly, not to grip.
If you're petite (under 5'4"), be aware that midi and maxi lengths can overwhelm — Everlane models are tall. The hemlines may well be longer than the product images suggest on a shorter frame. Factor that in, or be prepared for a small alteration.
Trousers and Tailoring

Everlane's trousers — particularly their chino styles and barrel-leg cuts — are a real wardrobe win when they fit. The key: size to your waist measurement, not to your dress size. Their trouser sizing is waist-led, and the fits are generally more relaxed through the hip and thigh than the waistband might suggest. If anything, some styles run slightly large through the seat, so don't be afraid to go down a size if you're between.
Outerwear
Everlane's outerwear — particularly the ReWool coats and EverPuff puffer jackets — is excellent quality and tends to run with a relaxed, slightly generous cut. True to size is the rule for wearing over layers. If you're buying purely for lighter layering, you could comfortably size down. The puffer styles in particular are cut generously, which makes them wonderfully cosy but worth bearing in mind if you're slight of frame.
Shoes
Worth a brief mention: Everlane's shoe range (Day Glove, City Boot, loafers etc.) is genuinely worth knowing about, but their shoes can run narrow and slightly small. Sizing up by half a size is often recommended, particularly for pointed-toe styles. If you have a wider foot, factor this in — or treat it as the one category to look up specific reviews before buying.
The Honest Sizing Verdict
Everlane is a brilliant brand — but it rewards those who do a little homework. The basics and knitwear are simple. The denim needs more care. And the US-to-UK conversion is the first hurdle every British shopper faces. Know your measurements, use the garment dimensions Everlane provides on each product page, and always check the style-specific notes. When it fits, it really fits.
Similar Brands Worth Shopping
Everlane's sweet spot is elevated, sustainable basics with a clean, minimal aesthetic. If you love that world, here are brands I genuinely rate alongside it:
For a similar ethos and aesthetic:
Cos — the most natural Everlane equivalent on the UK high street. Architectural, minimalist, and beautifully made. Particularly strong on structured basics, clean trousers, and considered knitwear. Their sizing is consistent and runs true.
Massimo Dutti — for when you want that Everlane clean-line quality but slightly more polished and European in feel. Excellent tailoring, strong denim range, and a reliability that's hard to beat at the price point.
Jigsaw — a British brand with a very similar audience: intelligent, considered womenswear for women who want quality over quantity. Brilliant for classic trousers, coats, and knitwear with a longer life span than high street.
Whistles — clean, contemporary, and consistently well-made. Particularly strong on basics, silk-effect blouses, and tailored separates. A very natural landing spot for Everlane fans.
Me&Em — British, premium, and obsessed with quality fabrics and flattering cuts. If you're spending Everlane money, Me&Em is worth putting in the same basket — especially for jersey basics and trousers.
Boden — a very different aesthetic (more print, more personality) but the same commitment to quality and honest sizing. Worth knowing for knitwear, dresses, and anything you want to last multiple seasons.
Anthropologie — for the more romantic, textured side of the Everlane customer's wardrobe. Not minimalist, but beautifully made and with a loyal cult following for good reason.
And two independent labels I love for exactly this type of wardrobe:
Asket — a Swedish brand that takes Everlane's radical transparency model and arguably goes even further with it. Brilliant, considered basics in a thoughtful size range. Find them at asket.com — genuinely worth the slightly higher price point for the quality and longevity.
Arket — part of the H&M Group but operating entirely independently with a much more elevated approach. Scandinavian design principles, quality fabrics, and an honest minimalism that sits directly in Everlane territory. Strong on outerwear, knitwear, and clean-cut trousers.
