What Is Sizing Like at Eytys?

Eytys sizing varies significantly depending on what you're buying — and getting it wrong is an expensive mistake. The short version: their shoes tend to run large and should be sized down, their ready-to-wear is intentionally oversized so again you'll often want to go smaller, and their denim is true to your waist measurement but runs long in the leg. Read on, because the detail really does matter with this brand.

So, Who Are Eytys?

If you haven't come across Eytys yet (it's pronounced "Eighties" by the way — a nod to Generation Y, spelt with Ys), where have you been? This Stockholm-based label was founded in 2013 by Jonathan Hirschfeld and Max Schiller, and it started life with one singular obsession: the perfect sneaker. Their debut shoe, the Mother — a chunky, unisex platform plimsoll — became a cult object almost immediately. I remember spotting them on pretty much every fashion editor at shows and thinking, I need to understand this brand better.

Since then, Eytys has grown into a full ready-to-wear label, launching denim in 2017 and a complete clothing collection at Paris Fashion Week in 2019. The aesthetic is uncompromisingly Scandinavian — minimal, considered, deliberately gender-neutral, and built around bold proportions. Think '90s-inspired wide-leg denim, oversized cotton shirting, boxy outerwear, and those instantly recognisable chunky-soled shoes. It's cool in a very specific, unfussy way. But because the brand sits outside the normal sizing conventions — unisex grading, intentional oversize, European shoe sizing — buying blind is genuinely risky.

Eytys Shoe Sizing: The Biggest Pitfall

Let's start here, because shoes are what most people come to Eytys for, and this is where the most confusion lives. Eytys uses a European sizing system throughout their footwear, and the general advice is that their shoes run on the larger side — particularly if you have narrower or average-width feet.

EU SizeUK Women'sUK Men's363—374—385—3965.54076.5418742—843—9

A few things to note beyond the basic chart:

  • Eytys does not offer half sizes — if you're between sizes, their own advice is to go for the larger size and use an insole if needed. That said, given the generous fit, many women find going down to the smaller size actually works better

  • The shoes are unisex, so women are often shopping in men's sizing — don't be put off by this, just convert carefully using the chart above

  • Specific styles vary: their RARI boot, for example, explicitly states it runs larger than usual and advises sizing down. Always check the individual product page for style-specific notes — Eytys is good at flagging these

  • Shoe shapes differ — pointy toes, square toes, bulky platforms — and this affects fit perception even within the same size. A chunky Angel platform will feel different to a slimmer derby

  • The leather styles do soften and mould with wear, but don't buy a size up hoping they'll stretch into comfort — start with the right size

My honest advice: measure your foot length in centimetres before ordering. It removes all the guesswork around conversions and is the method Eytys themselves recommend on their size guide page.

Eytys Clothing Sizing: Ready-to-Wear & Denim

When Eytys launched clothing, they brought the same proportional boldness from their footwear into their RTW. The result is a collection that is — by design — oversized, boxy, and deliberately non-conformist in its silhouette. This isn't a flaw; it's the point. But it does mean that sizing down is almost always the right move if you want a clean, wearable fit rather than something that genuinely swamps you.

Tops, T-Shirts & Sweatshirts

  • All designed with an intentionally generous, boxy cut — this is not accidental, it's the whole aesthetic

  • If you want to wear them as styled on their website — oversized, dropped shoulders, cropped with wide-leg trousers — go true to size or even up

  • If you want something that looks more fitted and polished, size down one, sometimes two

  • The fabric quality is excellent — heavy cotton, great drape — which helps even generous fits look intentional rather than sloppy

Denim & Trousers

  • Eytys denim is inspired by '90s cuts — wide-leg, straight, high-rise, with a vintage slouch to them

  • Waist sizing is generally true to measurement, so use your actual waist in inches or centimetres rather than a UK dress size

  • The leg length runs long — great if you're tall, but shorter wearers should budget for a hem alteration, which is absolutely worth it on these

  • The high-rise, roomy hip fit suits straight and pear-shaped figures particularly well

  • These are not jeans for people who want a sculpted, fitted silhouette — they're relaxed, cool, and very much of their aesthetic

Outerwear & Jackets

  • Again, oversized is the intention — padded bombers, roomy coats, boxy overshirts

  • Size down one if you want a shape that still reads as structured; stay true to size if you want that relaxed, layered volume

  • The construction is genuinely impressive for a brand at this price point

My Honest Shopping Tips for Eytys

Post Image

I'll be straight with you: Eytys is one of those brands where taking ten minutes to measure yourself properly before ordering will save you a lot of hassle. Their return policy involves charges for returns, so getting it right first time really does matter. Here's what I'd tell a client:

  • For shoes — measure your foot in centimetres, check the individual product's size guide (they publish this per style), and if you're between sizes, lean down rather than up

  • For clothing — check whether you want the oversized look or something more fitted, and adjust accordingly. Their own lookbook will show you the intended styling, which helps

  • For denim — forget UK dress sizes entirely and use your waist measurement in inches. It's the only reliable anchor

  • If you're shopping Eytys secondhand on Depop or Vinted — ask the seller for the flat measurements of the piece, not just the label size

Brilliant Alternatives at Every Budget

The Eytys customer loves a considered, Scandinavian-inflected wardrobe — unfussy, quality-led, a bit directional without being try-hard. If that's your lane, here are brands I'd point you towards:

High Street & Contemporary

  • COS — the most natural Eytys neighbour on the high street. Clean Scandinavian design, great basics, strong outerwear and denim. The sizing is predictable and the quality seriously over-delivers at the price.

  • ASOS — enormous range for chunky trainers, wide-leg denim and oversized outerwear at every price point. Good for experimenting with the aesthetic without the investment.

  • Urban Outfitters — genuinely well-curated for the wide-leg, vintage-inspired, Scandi-adjacent aesthetic. Strong denim section and good own-brand basics with that same relaxed energy.

  • All Saints — for the cooler, more minimal end of things. Their leather pieces, outerwear, and denim have a dark, considered edge that Eytys fans tend to connect with.

  • Zara — consistently excellent for oversized tailoring, wide-leg trousers, and chunky footwear at accessible prices. Their trend lead means they often pick up on exactly the proportions Eytys is known for.

  • H&M — particularly the H&M Studio and premium lines, which hit a Scandinavian minimalist note that's very much in Eytys territory. Good basics, quality has genuinely improved.

  • Levi's — if the Eytys denim silhouette appeals but the price doesn't, Levi's wide-leg and straight-leg ranges are the obvious answer. Their sizing is transparent and consistent, and the quality is there.

Independent Picks Worth Knowing

  • Axel Arigato — a fellow Stockholm brand, and one I reach for when clients love the Eytys aesthetic but want slightly more accessible sizing and slightly less intimidating price points for footwear. Beautiful minimalist trainers, genuinely excellent quality, and a clean aesthetic that sits perfectly alongside Eytys pieces in a wardrobe.

  • Our Legacy — another Swedish label, beloved by people who appreciate exactly what Eytys is doing but want more options in the ready-to-wear space. Their denim, outerwear, and knitwear are genuinely exceptional, with that same considered, unhurried quality that makes Scandinavian fashion so compelling.
