What Is Sizing Like at Fabienne Chapot? Your Honest Fit Guide

Fabienne Chapot sizing runs true to European sizing overall — but the brand cuts its pieces with a relaxed, feminine ease that means most styles feel slightly generous through the body, particularly in blouses and dresses. Stick to your usual EU size and you'll almost certainly be fine. If you're between sizes and you're buying a structured piece, size down. If it's a blouse or a floaty dress, your regular size will give you that lovely, unfussy fit the brand is known for.

I discovered Fabienne Chapot a few years ago and immediately understood the appeal — it's the kind of brand that makes getting dressed feel genuinely joyful. The prints are bold and characterful, the embroidery is charming, and every piece has a personality that most high street brands would kill for. But I'll admit the first time I ordered online I had a minor panic about whether the EU sizing was going to be wildly off. It wasn't. It just needed a little understanding — which is exactly what I'm going to give you here.

About the Brand: Who Is Fabienne Chapot?

Fabienne Chapot is a Dutch fashion label founded by designer Fabienne Chapot in Amsterdam. It launched in 2009 and has built a devoted following across Europe and the UK on the back of its signature aesthetic: vivid, painterly prints, intricate embroidery, and a very particular kind of confident femininity that feels nothing like the beige minimalism that dominates so much of the mid-market right now. This is a brand for women who actually enjoy colour.

In the UK you'll find Fabienne Chapot at John Lewis and Wolf & Badger, as well as through the brand's own website. Price-wise it sits in the premium-but-not-designer bracket — blouses typically range from £120–£200, dresses from £150–£280. You're paying for original, considered design and decent quality fabrics. It's not a throwaway purchase, which makes getting the sizing right all the more important.

How Does Fabienne Chapot Sizing Work?

The brand uses standard European sizing — 34, 36, 38, 40, 42, 44 — which maps to UK sizes roughly as follows:

  • EU 34 = UK 6

  • EU 36 = UK 8

  • EU 38 = UK 10

  • EU 40 = UK 12

  • EU 42 = UK 14

  • EU 44 = UK 16

These conversions are broadly accurate at Fabienne Chapot. Unlike some European brands that cut significantly smaller than the label suggests, Fabienne Chapot tends to be fairly honest about its sizing — a relief when you're ordering from a brand you haven't tried in a fitting room yet.

Fit by Category: What to Expect

The brand spans quite a few product categories, and fit varies a little between them. Here's what I'd tell a client:

  • Blouses and shirts: These are the absolute heart of the brand, and they're cut with a relaxed, non-restrictive fit through the body and shoulders. Sizing is generous here — if you're usually on the smaller end of a size, go with your standard size and enjoy the ease. If you're fuller-busted, this relaxed cut will be your friend.

  • Dresses: Wrap and shift styles are very forgiving and size true. More fitted, tailored dresses (the brand does a few) are where you'll want to be more careful — check the bust measurement specifically, as the fit is closer through the body on structured styles.

  • Knitwear: Fabienne Chapot's knitwear — jumpers, cardigans — is a joy. It runs true to size with a relaxed, slightly oversized feel that's very much intentional. Don't size down; wear it as intended and it looks brilliant.

  • Trousers and skirts: Waist sizing is accurate; always check the waist measurement against the size guide if you're between sizes. The brand tends to cut with a slightly higher rise on trousers, which is enormously flattering and also very on trend right now.

  • Outerwear: True to size with room to layer. The coats and jackets are well-lined and have enough ease to wear over a blouse or knitwear without feeling restricted.

Fuller Busts and Wider Shoulders: A Note

One consistent piece of feedback I've seen — and personally agree with — is that Fabienne Chapot's blouses and tops are actually quite accommodating for fuller busts, more so than many European brands at this price point. The relaxed cut through the body means there's less strain across the chest than you might expect. Wider shoulders are similarly well-served by the generous armhole construction on most blouses. It's not a brand that's been designed for a narrow, flat-chested silhouette — and that's genuinely refreshing.

Style Advice: Getting the Most Out of Fabienne Chapot

The prints are the thing, so let them lead. A few golden rules I'd pass on:

  • Keep the rest of the outfit simple. A Fabienne Chapot blouse with plain wide-leg trousers and classic loafers is a complete, perfect outfit. You don't need to add more — the print is doing all the work.

  • Clash prints with confidence. The brand is made for it. A printed blouse with a subtly printed or textured trouser is very much in the spirit of the label.

  • The embroidered pieces work brilliantly with denim — dark-rinse straight-leg jeans and an embroidered Fabienne Chapot blouse is one of my all-time favourite combinations for a smart-casual lunch or weekend occasion.

  • Don't underestimate the brand's knitwear for autumn and winter. A bold Fabienne Chapot jumper with tailored trousers and ankle boots is the kind of outfit that makes people stop and ask where you got it. The answer is always satisfying.

Brilliant Alternatives at Every Budget

If Fabienne Chapot has your heart but not quite your budget right now — or you want to build a whole wardrobe in a similar spirit — these brands deliver that same love of colour, print, and feminine dressing:

  • Anthropologie — possibly the closest match in terms of aesthetic energy: eclectic, colourful, print-led, and very much its own thing. A brilliant destination if you love the Fabienne Chapot world but want more variety. Sizing runs true to US sizing; check the conversion.

  • Monsoon — a British high street stalwart for print and colour, with a particularly strong embroidery and occasion-wear offer. More accessible price point, and the quality has improved markedly in recent years.

  • Boden — reliably joyful, colourful, and quintessentially British. Their printed dresses and blouses are some of the best value on the high street. Sizing is accurate and well-documented.

  • Mint Velvet — for a slightly more muted take on the print and colour story, Mint Velvet is gorgeous. Premium feel, excellent quality, and a sophisticated colour palette that works beautifully for the over-35s crowd.

  • Ted Baker — floral and feminine with a luxury finish. Ted Baker's print dresses in particular are a consistent bestseller for good reason. Sizing runs slightly small, so check carefully.

  • Phase Eight — exceptional for occasion-wear and dresses in particular. Beautiful fabric choices, feminine silhouettes, and sizing that's consistently reliable and true.

  • White Stuff — cheerful, quirky, brilliantly British. Their printed blouses and dresses carry a similar playful spirit to Fabienne Chapot at a much friendlier price. Sizing is generous and true.

Two Independent Brands You Need to Know

  • Rixo (rixo.co.uk) — a London-based independent label that has become one of the most beloved print-dress brands in the UK, and rightly so. The vintage-inspired florals and bold graphic prints are absolutely glorious, the quality is excellent, and the brand has a genuine cult following among stylists (including me). Sizing runs true to UK sizing and is generous through the bust. If you love Fabienne Chapot, Rixo is the next natural step.

  • Never Fully Dressed (neverfullydressed.com) — another brilliant independent with a serious love of colour, print, and maximalist joy. Founded in London, this brand has built an incredibly loyal following for its wrap dresses, printed trousers, and vibrant separates. Particularly excellent for curvier figures, with sizing that's honest and inclusive. A brand I recommend constantly and never get tired of.
