What Is Sizing Like at Ganni? Your Honest, No-Fluff Guide

Ganni runs small — particularly in knitwear and fitted dresses — and if this is your first time buying from the Danish label, sizing up from your usual is almost always the right call. I've learned this the hard way. A Ganni smocked midi dress arrived looking like a beautiful doll's dress and couldn't get past my hips. I've been sizing up ever since, and life has been considerably better.

The Ganni Brand: A Quick Background

Ganni is a Copenhagen-based label that has become one of those brands you spot on every cool girl in Shoreditch or Notting Hill — think playful prints, voluminous sleeves, and that slightly-undone Scandi aesthetic that manages to feel both relaxed and put-together. Founded in 2000, it sits in that desirable premium-but-not-crazy-expensive sweet spot. But the sizing? It requires a little homework.

How Does Ganni Size Its Clothes?

Ganni uses European sizing (EU 32–44 in most styles), and their fit runs consistently on the smaller side. A standard UK 10 translates to around an EU 38 in Ganni — but even then, I'd recommend checking individual product measurements rather than relying on that conversion alone. Here's the thing: their sizing isn't totally uniform across categories.

  • Dresses & skirts: Often run one size small. If you're between sizes, go up. Their smocked styles in particular have very little give in the bodice.

  • Knitwear: This is where you'll feel the pinch most. Their knits are cut slim, and even in the softer styles, they sit close to the body. I'd advise sizing up without hesitation here.

  • Tops & blouses: More variable. Some of the relaxed linen or cotton styles are generous, while fitted silhouettes track small. Always check the measurements.

  • Jeans & trousers: Ganni denim runs true to size on the waist but can be short in the leg. If you're 5'6'' or above, it's worth noting that many styles are cut for a Scandinavian petite frame.

  • Outerwear: Generally more true to size, and the oversized styles obviously have plenty of room. These tend to be the safest category to buy in your normal size.

Ganni's Size Range: What's on Offer?

Ganni typically runs from XS to XL (roughly EU 32–44, or UK 6–18 depending on the garment). They have made efforts to extend their size range in recent years, and some styles now go up to a size 2XL. That said, not every piece is available in the full range — dressier and more directional styles often stop at an EU 42 (approximately UK 16). If you're shopping in larger sizes, it's worth filtering by your size first before falling too hard for something that isn't available.

Shopping Ganni In Store vs Online

Ganni has standalone boutiques in London (Carnaby Street is the most central), and the brand is also stocked at Selfridges, Net-a-Porter, and ASOS. Buying in store is obviously ideal if it's your first time — you can try the fit properly and understand where you land in their sizing. Online is trickier. Ganni's own website is reliable for stock depth and returns are straightforward, but do read the product measurements section on each item rather than trusting your usual size alone. I cannot stress this enough: the measurements table is your best friend with this brand.

My Honest Verdict on Ganni Quality

Post Image

For the price point — and let's be honest, Ganni isn't cheap — the quality is decent but not always exceptional. The printed fabrics and viscose pieces are fun and wearable but not necessarily built to last decades. Their knitwear and leather accessories tend to be where the quality really justifies the spend. I think of Ganni as a seasonal wardrobe refresh rather than an investment buy, with the exception of their coats and boots, which I've had for years without issue.

Brilliant Alternatives to Ganni on the High Street

Ganni has a very specific aesthetic — playful, Scandi, print-forward — and the good news is there are some excellent alternatives at a range of price points if the sizing or cost puts you off:

  • COS — Clean Scandi lines, consistent sizing, and brilliant quality basics that share Ganni's understated cool. A more minimal take on the same mood.

  • Mango — Excellent for Ganni-esque printed midi dresses and smocked styles at a fraction of the price. The fit is more generous too.

  • Anthropologie — If it's the print and feminine silhouette you love about Ganni, Anthropologie delivers in spades. The dresses in particular are genuinely beautiful.

  • Whistles — A brilliant premium high street option for elevated basics and relaxed tailoring. Consistent sizing and well worth it for workwear alternatives.

  • Me&Em — For the grown-up, investment-minded version of the Ganni customer. Impeccable quality, honest sizing, and the kind of pieces that earn their price tag.

  • All Saints — If you love Ganni's edgier, textured pieces — the leather, the utility — All Saints does this with an East London twist and very reliable sizing.

  • Reiss — Great for polished alternatives to Ganni's smarter occasion pieces. Sizing is true to UK standard and the quality is consistently good.

  • Urban Outfitters — A surprising but genuinely useful one for the print-heavy, fun side of the Ganni aesthetic. Prices are low and the dresses are often spot-on.

Two Independent Brands Worth Discovering

If you love Ganni but want something a little more off-radar, these are two independents I rate highly:

  • Baum und Pferdgarten — Another Danish label, and arguably Ganni's closest spiritual sibling. Bold prints, feminine shapes, and a commitment to joyful dressing that's hard to resist. Sizing is very similar to Ganni so the same advice applies: go up.

  • Damson Madder — A brilliant British independent label beloved by stylists for its vintage-inspired prints and relaxed, wearable silhouettes. More accessible pricing than Ganni and sizing that's notably more generous. A great discovery if this is your first time hearing the name.
