What Is Sizing Like at Geox? An Honest Stylist’s Fit Guide

In short: Geox shoes fit true to size in length but run narrow through the width, so most women can order their usual EU size with confidence – the one thing to watch is the slim toe box. The bigger quirk is that fit shifts noticeably depending on what you’re buying. A pair of Geox trainers, a court shoe and an ankle boot can all behave differently on the same foot, so “my Geox size” isn’t quite a fixed thing. Let me talk you through it properly.

First, why Geox sizing is its own little world

Geox is an Italian brand, founded in 1995 by Mario Moretti Polegato – the man who famously punched holes in a rubber sole during a walk in the Nevada desert and invented “the shoe that breathes.” That perforated sole and microporous membrane is the whole point of the brand, and it quietly affects fit too. Because your feet stay cooler and drier, a snug Geox shoe tends to feel less sweaty and claustrophobic than a snug shoe from a less breathable brand. So a fit that would feel tight elsewhere often feels perfectly fine here.

They size in EU measurements as standard, which is where a lot of the confusion creeps in – I’ve had clients order a whole size out simply because they guessed at the conversion rather than checking. (More on avoiding that further down.)

So do they run big or small?

Here’s my honest read after years of fitting clients in them:

  • Length: broadly true to size, with women’s styles leaning very slightly roomy. If you’re a confident, settled size, order it.

  • Width: this is the real story. Geox tends to cut narrow, particularly through the toe box, and they don’t offer official width fittings. If you have a broader foot, that’s the bit to plan around.

  • Trainers: the roomiest of the lot. The sportier ranges are the most generous, so if you’re between sizes here, size down half a size.

  • Courts & ballet flats: closer to true, sometimes a touch snug at the front because of that narrow last.

  • Ankle boots: the trickiest. Several can feel a half size small once you factor in socks, so size with your winter sock in mind.

One genuine fail of mine, for honesty’s sake: I once ordered a gorgeous pair of Geox brogues online in my “usual” size, didn’t check whether they came in whole sizes only, and ended up with a pair that pinched across the ball of my foot for a fortnight before they finally softened. Which brings me to the upside…

The leather will save you (the synthetics won’t)

Geox leather styles mould and stretch with wear, so a snug-but-not-painful leather pair will almost always settle into a glove-like fit within a week or two. My brogues are now my most-worn shoes. The synthetic and knit styles, by contrast, give very little, so those need to fit properly out of the box – don’t buy them hoping they’ll “give.” If you’re between sizes in a leather style, I’d take the snugger one; in a synthetic, take the larger.

My quick fitting checklist for Geox

Post Image

  • Order your normal EU size as a starting point.

  • Between sizes in trainers? Go down half.

  • Between sizes in boots, or have a wider foot? Go up half.

  • Buying leather? Trust it to stretch a little. Buying synthetic? Don’t.

  • Never guess your EU conversion – check it against your actual measurements (the easy way is below).

Where else I’d shop for comfortable, well-fitting footwear

Geox is a brilliant everyday shoe, but it’s worth knowing the alternatives across the price spectrum – especially if the narrow last doesn’t suit you.

High street

  • M&S – the queen of comfort footwear, with genuine wide-fit lines and cushioned soles. My first port of call for anyone Geox pinches.

  • Next – an enormous own-brand range and excellent value, with reliable comfort styles and broader fittings.

  • Timberland – for rugged, breathable boots that rival Geox on durability and outdoorsy comfort.

  • Seasalt Cornwall – relaxed leather shoes and boots with a soft, roomy feel and a lovely coastal sensibility.

  • Fat Face – easy, casual everyday styles that don’t fight your foot.

  • Joules – the go-to for characterful boots and wellies when the weather turns.

  • Boden – smart-casual leather footwear with a bit of colour and a generous, forgiving fit.

  • New Look – affordable trend-led shoes when you want a seasonal style without the investment.

Premium

  • Reiss – elevated leather courts, loafers and boots that look far more expensive than they are.

  • Hobbs – classic, beautifully finished British footwear that holds its shape season after season.

Luxury / designer

  • Tod’s – if you love Geox’s Italian comfort credentials, this is the luxury version: buttery driving shoes and loafers built to last decades.

Two independents worth knowing

  • Vivobarefoot – a British brand built entirely around foot health and breathability, with a wide, natural-shaped toe box. The perfect antidote if Geox feels too narrow.

  • Tracey Neuls – a wonderfully left-field independent London designer making sculptural, comfort-first shoes that are real conversation pieces.
