What Is Sizing Like at Gimaguas? Everything You Need to Know Before You Buy

Gimaguas runs small by UK standards — and the fit varies noticeably between styles — so my firm advice is to size up on most pieces, especially if you're above a UK 10 or have a fuller bust or hips.
I'll be honest: I came to Gimaguas a little late. I'd been admiring the brand on Instagram for ages — all that dreamy Mediterranean knitwear, breezy linen and those cult halterneck tops — but I kept putting off buying because I couldn't work out the sizing. When I finally ordered (a medium in one of their knit tops, for the record), it was a revelation. But it took two attempts to get there. First order? Too small. Frustrating but entirely avoidable, which is exactly why I'm writing this.
Gimaguas is a Barcelona-based brand and designs with a distinctly Mediterranean sensibility. That means the cuts tend to run smaller and shorter than UK sizing, with a more compact, continental silhouette in mind. Once you understand that, shopping them becomes a lot less stressful.
THE KEY THING TO KNOW: EVERY GARMENT FITS DIFFERENTLY
This is genuinely important and not just a generic disclaimer. Gimaguas itself flags it clearly: every garment has an individual size chart because every piece has different intended proportions. Some styles are designed to be oversized — in which case, sizing up would leave you swimming in fabric. Others, particularly the trousers and fitted knit pieces, run genuinely small. You cannot apply one rule across the whole brand. You need to treat each piece individually.
That said, here are the patterns I've noticed style by style:
KNITWEAR & CROCHET TOPS
These are Gimaguas' most iconic pieces — the hand-knit halternecks, the crochet tanks, the short-row knit sets. They often have some stretch, but the body length runs short and the fit is generally snug through the bust and waist. Most UK size 10s will be more comfortable in a Medium than a Small. If you're a UK 12–14, go straight to Large and don't second-guess it.
Halterneck styles in particular: size up — the tie-back fit looks better with a little room to work with
If you're petite (under 5'4"), you might actually find the standard size works well for you given the shorter body length
Curvier frames: check your bust measurement against the garment's flat measurement — these styles don't have a lot of ease built in
LINEN PIECES & RELAXED SUMMER STYLES
Linen has very little stretch, and Gimaguas' linen cuts can sit slim across the hips even when the waist feels fine. If you're between sizes, I'd always go up. The breezy, minimal aesthetic they're going for still looks great in a slightly roomier size — honestly, it often looks better, with more of that effortless, undone feel.
Linen trousers especially: size up if in doubt, the hips are the issue point
Swim cover-ups and layering pieces: true to size in the shoulders but shorter in the body — if you're tall or prefer more coverage, go up
TROUSERS & BOTTOMS

This is where I'd be most cautious. Gimaguas trousers regularly run small across the seat and thighs. Even styles labelled "regular fit, true to size" on the website can feel fitted through the hip. Always cross-reference your hip measurement against the garment chart before buying — this is genuinely the one category where I wouldn't take any chances without checking.
Fitted trouser styles: go up one size from your usual
Wider-leg styles: these tend to be more forgiving, but still check the hip
OVERSIZED KNITS & JUMPERS
Many pieces in this category are designed to be oversized by intention. If you size up on these, you'll end up with something that looks intentionally exaggerated rather than chic-slouchy. Stick to your usual size — or if you're petite, go down one. This is one of the few Gimaguas categories where I'd say trust the label.
HIGH STREET ALTERNATIVES IF GIMAGUAS IS OUT OF YOUR BUDGET
HIGH STREET PICKS
If the Gimaguas aesthetic speaks to you but the price point doesn't, there are some brilliant alternatives on the high street that nail that same relaxed, Mediterranean-inspired energy:
Mango — honestly the closest thing to Gimaguas at a fraction of the price. Same Barcelona roots, similar relaxed silhouettes and a real understanding of that sun-soaked, effortless aesthetic. Their linen and knitwear edit is excellent.
Zara — strong on the crochet, knitwear and relaxed trouser front, especially in the warmer collections. The quality isn't the same, but the aesthetic is there.
Anthropologie — a brilliant option for the boho, artisanal feel of Gimaguas. Their summer knits and embroidered pieces have a similar handcrafted quality.
COS — if you love the clean, considered side of Gimaguas, COS is a natural fit. Beautiful fabrics, relaxed silhouettes and a restrained colour palette.
Urban Outfitters — surprisingly good for the crochet and relaxed knit styles, and they often stock brands with a similar demographic and aesthetic sensibility.
Massimo Dutti — for elevated basics with a Mediterranean feel. Their linen and cotton separates are genuinely well made and have that same unhurried elegance.
Whistles — a great option for relaxed, grown-up dressing. Their knitwear in particular has a similar easy, unfussy quality to Gimaguas' more minimal pieces.
Me&Em — for polish with a relaxed edge. Excellent quality and the sizing is refreshingly consistent, which makes a nice change after the Gimaguas guessing game.
PREMIUM PICKS
Paloma Wool — another Spanish brand with a very similar DNA: artistic, considered, and designed for women who dress with intention. Sizing is more consistent here too.
Never Fully Dressed — brilliant for the patterned, expressive side of Gimaguas. Bold prints, great quality and an inclusive size range.
Rixo — if you love Gimaguas for occasions and going-out dressing, Rixo delivers a similar romantic, print-led energy at a comparable premium price point.
LUXURY & DESIGNER PICKS
Jacquemus — the obvious elevated comparison. Similarly Mediterranean in spirit, similarly body-conscious in cut, and similarly prone to running small. You've been warned.
Toteme — for the pared-back, considered Gimaguas customer who wants investment pieces. Immaculate quality and a beautifully restrained aesthetic.
The Row — if you love the quiet luxury of Gimaguas' simpler pieces, The Row is the ultimate expression of that understated, fabric-first dressing philosophy.
TWO INDEPENDENT BRANDS WORTH KNOWING
Baserange — a Copenhagen-based label with strong roots in Barcelona, making Gimaguas-adjacent basics in beautiful, natural fabrics. A cult favourite among the slow-fashion crowd and genuinely brilliant for layering.
Nué Notes — a Danish independent brand doing relaxed, sculptural pieces in earthy tones that sit perfectly alongside the Gimaguas aesthetic. Less well known but worth every bit of the discovery.
