What Is Sizing Like at Guest in Residence?

Guest in Residence runs broadly true to size – but there’s one catch worth knowing before you hit ‘add to bag’: the brand uses two different sizing systems, and which one you’re shopping decides whether you size down or stay put. Most of the women’s collection is cut in standard women’s sizing and fits exactly as you’d expect. But a handful of core pieces – certain crews and cardigans – are cut in men’s sizing, and on those the brand itself tells women to size down. Get that one detail right and Gigi Hadid’s cashmere label is one of the easiest luxury fits to shop online.
I’m Ella Blake, Senior Fashion Stylist and founder of Tellar, and cashmere is the category I get asked about more than any other – mostly because it’s expensive enough that nobody wants to gamble. So let’s talk through exactly how Guest in Residence fits, style by style.
The Short Answer on Fit
Guest in Residence (or GIR, as it’s known) is 100% cashmere, sized XXS to XXL, and built around a few signature shapes that fit very differently from one another. Knowing the style matters far more than knowing your usual letter. Here’s how the core pieces sit:
Shrunken Crew – slim, lightweight and modern, with a slightly cropped, higher hem. Genuinely true to size. Take your normal size for that neat, fitted look; size up only if you want it relaxed.
Cozy Crew – the bestseller, and a completely different animal. Heavyweight, boxy, dropped shoulders, deliberately oversized. The brand’s own model (5’9”) wears a small, so stick to your true size unless you want it truly enormous.
Oversized Crew – roomy and slouchy by design; true to size gives you that off-duty, borrowed-from-him drape.
Allday Crew & Everywear cardigans – these run in men’s sizing. If you want anything less than huge, size down one (sometimes two).
A Quick Word From Experience
My honest confession: my first GIR order was a Cozy Crew bought a size up because I assumed ‘cashmere = take it bigger’. Rookie error. It swamped me – gorgeous, but I looked like I’d shrunk inside it. The replacement in my true size was perfect. The lesson I now give every client: with GIR, never pre-empt the oversized styles by sizing up. They’re already cut generous. Save the sizing-down for the men’s-cut pieces and you’ll nail it first time.
Length, Weight and the Things That Catch People Out
Lightweight vs heavyweight: the Shrunken styles are fine and layering-friendly; the Cozy and oversized pieces are dense and warm. Don’t expect the slim crew to be your coldest-day jumper – it isn’t.
Bust and shoulders: if you’re fuller-busted, the boxy Cozy and oversized cuts are your friends; the Shrunken Crew is the one to try true-to-size first, as it’s the most fitted through the chest.
Care matters for fit: this is real cashmere, so hand-wash cold and lay flat. A few reviewers have flagged pilling and slight shrinkage when washed warm – treat it gently and the fit holds.
The Verdict
For a luxury label bought almost entirely online, GIR is reassuringly predictable: order your normal size in the women’s styles, size down on the men’s-cut ones, and decide up front whether you want fitted (Shrunken) or roomy (Cozy/Oversized). It is pricey – the Shrunken Crew sits around £230–250 and the heavier pieces climb well beyond – so getting the size right first time genuinely saves money.
Where to Shop if GIR Isn’t in Budget

That slouchy, raw-hem, expensive-looking cashmere look is very recreatable. Here’s where I’d send clients across the price spectrum.
High Street
Marks & Spencer – the best-value pure cashmere on the high street, and genuinely true to size.
Uniqlo – premium-feel cashmere at a fraction of the price, in slim, modern cuts that read far more expensive than they are.
COS – architectural, minimalist knits; the obvious place to recreate that oversized, dropped-shoulder GIR silhouette affordably.
Mango – trend-led cashmere and wool blends, often the closest high-street nod to the slouchy, raw-hem aesthetic.
Massimo Dutti – quietly luxe knitwear that punches well above its price point.
Boden – dependable, colourful cashmere with a forgiving, generous fit.
Hush – relaxed, lived-in cashmere with the same off-duty mood as GIR.
Mint Velvet – softly polished knits for when you want a little more structure for the office.
Premium
Sézane – French-girl cashmere with raw hems and beautiful colour; the spiritual cousin of GIR at a gentler price.
Me&Em – clever British cuts and longer-length knits designed for real bodies.
Brora – Scottish cashmere specialists with proper heritage quality and a roomy, classic fit.
Luxury & Designer
Totême – Scandi minimalism and oversized cashmere that mirrors the GIR aesthetic almost exactly.
Max Mara – investment knitwear with structure and a polished, true-to-size cut.
By Malene Birger – Danish, sculptural and a touch more directional if you want something less expected.
Two Independents Worth Knowing
Navygrey – a small British label doing one near-perfect cashmere jumper in a tightly edited colour palette; beautifully true to size.
Jumper 1234 – independent and Cumbria-based, loved for playful cashmere with stars, stripes and contrast tipping in relaxed, true-to-size fits.
