What Is Sizing Like at Hommegirls?
Author: Stylist at TellarDate: 2026
Hommegirls runs in classic alpha sizing — XS through to XL — and the pieces are cut to fit like a proper men’s shirt, which means they run roomy, slouchy and intentionally oversized. If you’ve fallen for that borrowed-from-the-boys look all over your feed, this is the brand that started it, and the generous fit is very much the point.
Founded in New York by Thistle Brown, Hommegirls began life as a magazine celebrating women in menswear before becoming a cult label in its own right. The hero piece is the crisp Italian-cotton button-up with the little embroidered ‘Hg’ monogram — and once you understand how it’s meant to sit, you’ll never panic over the size dropdown again.
So, what’s the fit actually like?
In a word: generous. Hommegirls drafts its shirting from a men’s block, so there’s far more room through the shoulder, chest and body than you’d get from a typical women’s shirt. A few things worth knowing before you add to bag:
It’s a true oversized cut. The shoulders sit dropped, the body is boxy and the length is long — the classic shirt finishes around the high thigh, so it works beautifully half-tucked, knotted or worn open over a vest.
The model reference helps. Their fit model is 5’9” and wears a Medium, which gives you a feel for how relaxed each size reads on a taller frame.
Sizes step up in clear increments. Each size adds a couple of centimetres across the shoulder and a good four across the chest, so the jump from Small to Medium is noticeable — handy if you’re sitting between sizes.
The fabric doesn’t give. It’s 100% Italian cotton, crisp rather than stretchy, so the cut does all the work — not the fabric.
Should I size up or down?
Here’s my honest stylist take: it depends entirely on the look you’re after.
Want the proper slouchy, tucked-in, sleeves-rolled look? Take your normal size. That’s how it’s designed to sit and it’s the most flattering version of the trend.
Prefer something a touch less voluminous, or you’re petite? Size down one. On a smaller frame a Small still reads oversized, so dropping to XS stops it swamping you.
Layering over knits, or after maximum cocoon? Stay true to size or even size up — it’s gorgeous left open over a roll-neck in winter.
A quick confession: the very first menswear-style shirt I bought, years ago, I sized up “to be safe” and ended up looking like I’d wandered off a building site — sleeves past my fingertips, hem at my knees, the lot. I learned the hard way that with a cut this generous the roominess is already built in, so your usual size is almost always the right call. With Hommegirls I’d only stray from your standard size if you genuinely want to dial the volume up or down.
Where to find menswear-inspired shirting at every budget

Hommegirls sits at the premium end — expect to pay roughly £230 for a classic shirt — so if you love the look but want choices, here’s where I’d shop across the price spectrum.
High street
Uniqlo — their oversized cotton and supima shirts are the best value going for this exact look; the perfect way to test the trend.
COS — architectural, boxy poplin shirts with that clean Scandi-minimalist edge.
Mango — consistently nails the relaxed poplin shirt at a genuinely wallet-friendly price.
M&S — their pure-cotton shirting has come on enormously; a reliable, do-everything white shirt.
Premium
Massimo Dutti — elevated, Italian-leaning shirting with lovely fabrics for the money.
Me&Em — masters of the clever “boyfriend” shirt that flatters rather than drowns.
Whistles — modern, considered cuts in beautiful tonal shades.
Reiss — crisp, slightly sharper shirting if you want a more tailored take on the trend.
Luxury & designer
Totême — the Swedish label’s signature oversized cotton shirt is a genuine forever-piece.
Frame — does arguably the perfect elevated white shirt in lovely heavyweight cotton.
Ralph Lauren — the original menswear-for-women house; an oxford here lasts decades.
Two independents worth knowing
With Nothing Underneath — a British brand built entirely around the perfect women’s shirt, with collars and cuts refined to within an inch of their life. If you only try one, make it this.
The Frankie Shop — the New York cult favourite for slouchy, menswear-leaning everything; their relaxed shirting captures the Hommegirls mood at a slightly friendlier price.
