What Is Sizing Like at Jack & Jones?

Jack & Jones runs slim. It's a Danish brand cut on a European block, so the fit sits closer to the body than most British high-street labels — which means the majority of men are safest taking their usual size and sizing up only if they're between sizes or want a bit more room.

That's the short version. Now let me give you the detail, because Jack & Jones is one of those brands where knowing how the fits are named will save you a wardrobe of returns.

The general rule: slim, but consistent

The good news is that once you've cracked Jack & Jones, it stays reliable across the range. The denim and the block are engineered in Scandinavia, so the tailoring is trim through the thigh, the seat and the shoulders. If you're used to the roomier cut of an M&S or a Next, expect the same numerical size to feel noticeably leaner here.

  • Tops and T-shirts run small. This is the one that catches men out. A Jack & Jones medium is a genuine medium, not a British "medium with a bit of give". If you're between sizes on knitwear or tees, go up.

  • Jeans run true-to-slightly-slim on the waist. The waist can feel a touch tight out of the bag, but there's stretch in most washes, so they settle after a wear or two.

  • Jackets follow the same lean logic. Layering a jumper underneath? Size up, or you'll be fighting the zip.

Decode the jeans models — it's the whole game

Here's where Jack & Jones is actually brilliant, and where most shoppers go wrong. Their jeans aren't just "slim" or "regular" — each fit has a man's name, and that name tells you the cut. Learn these five and you'll never mis-order again:

  • Liam — skinny. The tightest they do, cut close from hip to ankle. Only for the genuinely lean.

  • Glenn — slim. The everyman fit. Fitted through the leg with a slight taper. If in doubt, this is your starting point.

  • Clark — regular/straight. Room through the thigh, straight down the leg. The safe pick if Glenn feels tight.

  • Mike — comfort/tapered. Relaxed at the top, tapered at the hem. Ideal for stronger thighs.

  • Chris — relaxed/loose. The baggier end, in step with the current wider-leg trend.

Jeans are sold in classic waist x leg inches (W32 L32 and so on), so measure a well-fitting pair you already own flat across the waistband and double it. That single check beats guessing every time.

Where to look if Jack & Jones isn't your fit

Jack & Jones is superb value casualwear, but the slim block doesn't suit every body. Here's who I'd send you to instead, across three price points.

High street

  • Uniqlo — for men who find J&J too slim. Their regular and relaxed denim is more forgiving through the thigh, and the fabric quality punches above the price.

  • River Island — a close British rival on trend and price, but with a slightly softer, more generous cut if the Danish leanness isn't for you.

  • Marks & Spencer — the benchmark for a true-to-size, roomier fit and consistent sizing you can trust year on year.

Independent / boutique

  • Hiut Denim — made in Cardigan, Wales, in small batches. Raw, honest denim that ages beautifully and fits generously before you break it in.

  • Blackhorse Lane Ateliers — London-made selvedge with free repairs for life. A step up in price, but the craftsmanship and fit refinement are worth it.

Designer / luxury

  • Nudie Jeans — Swedish, organic-cotton, and a proper cult following. Similar Scandinavian slimness to J&J but with premium fabric and free repairs.

  • A.P.C. — the reference point for clean, minimal raw denim. The New Standard fit is rigid and slim, so size up one and let it mould to you.

Whatever you buy, the principle holds: don't trust the label on the size, trust the measurement. Which brings me neatly to the thing that makes all of this effortless.
