What Is Sizing Like at Jigsaw? A Honest Guide to Getting the Right Fit

Jigsaw sizing runs true to size for the most part, occasionally edging slightly generous through the body — which, honestly, is rather welcome when you're dealing with beautifully structured tailoring. If you're a consistent UK 12, a UK 12 at Jigsaw is reliably a UK 12. No nasty surprises. No ordering up two sizes in a panic. Just well-cut, thoughtfully proportioned clothing that respects your actual measurements.

That said, there are a few nuances worth knowing — particularly around their trousers, knitwear, and occasion pieces — so let me walk you through what I've found over years of wearing and recommending this brand to clients.

The Jigsaw Brand in Brief

Jigsaw is one of those quietly brilliant British brands that has never really chased trends — and that's precisely why it's still relevant. Founded in 1972, it sits comfortably in the premium mid-market space: better quality than your average high street, but without the eye-watering price tags of a true designer label. Think cashmere at sensible prices, beautifully draped silk blouses, and tailored trousers that could take you from a Monday morning meeting to Saturday supper without looking like you've tried too hard.

I had a client once — corporate lawyer, absolutely no time for shopping — who built almost her entire work wardrobe around Jigsaw. Once she found her size, she barely needed to think about it again. That's the thing about Jigsaw: once you know your fit, the brand rewards consistency.

How Does Jigsaw Sizing Run?

Here's the breakdown by category:

  • Tops & blouses: True to size. Jigsaw tends to design for a slightly longer torso, which is brilliant news if you're tall or long-waisted, but if you're petite you may find the hem sits lower than expected. Their blouses in particular are cut with real generosity through the sleeve — a detail I genuinely appreciate.

  • Knitwear: Runs slightly generous. I'd say stick to your usual size but don't be alarmed if things feel a touch relaxed. That's by design — their cashmere and merino knits are meant to have an easy, unfussy drape. If you prefer a more fitted look, sizing down by one works beautifully.

  • Trousers: These are where Jigsaw really excels — and where sizing can feel the most variable. Their tailored trousers are cut with a longer leg, which is ideal if you're 5'7" and above. Petite customers often need to get the hem taken up. The waist-to-hip ratio is reasonably accommodating, though if you carry more volume through the hips you may find the waist sizing out before the hip fits properly.

  • Dresses: Generally true to size with a flattering, relaxed silhouette. Their wrap and midi styles in particular tend to be generous in a good way — they skim rather than cling, which I find much more wearable in real life.

  • Coats & jackets: True to size with room for layering. Classic British tailoring sensibility — nothing too nipped, nothing too boxy.

Jigsaw Size Range: What's Available?

Jigsaw runs from a UK 6 to UK 18 across most of its mainline collection. They introduced a petite range some years ago, which has improved enormously — it's one of the more thoughtfully proportioned petite edits on the high street, in my opinion, with seams genuinely moved rather than just hems shortened. However, their extended sizing tops out at a 18, which is frustrating if you sit above that. It's an area the brand could genuinely improve on.

My Honest Styling Take on Jigsaw

Post Image

I had a bit of a Jigsaw fail once — I ordered a gorgeous camel blazer online in my usual size and it arrived entirely too long in the body. Looked wonderful on the model (who was clearly around 5'10"), but on my 5'5" frame it swamped me. I've since learned to check the model height on their product pages, especially for structured tailoring. They do list it, to their credit.

On the flip side, their knitwear has become something of a staple for me. The merino roll-necks in particular are honestly impeccable — the weight, the drape, the way they hold their shape wash after wash. Once I sized down slightly in knitwear, I found my sweet spot and haven't looked back.

My tips for getting it right at Jigsaw:

  • Check the model height listed on the product page — especially for dresses and coats

  • If between sizes in knitwear, size down for a neater fit

  • Trousers may need tailoring if you're petite — factor that in when budgeting

  • Their linen and silk pieces run slightly more relaxed — embrace it, or size down for a crisper look

  • Use Jigsaw's own returns process — it's seamless, which makes online ordering much lower risk

Who Does Jigsaw Suit Best?

In my experience, Jigsaw works brilliantly for women who want to look polished without being stiff — the kind of clothes that feel effortless but clearly aren't cheap. It's especially good if you're between 30 and 60 and done with fast fashion but not ready to spend £1,200 on a single jacket. Their colour palette skews toward understated neutrals and earthy tones, which means pieces coordinate beautifully season to season.

Similar Brands Worth Knowing

If Jigsaw works for you in terms of aesthetic and sizing, you'll likely have similar luck with these brands — all offering that thoughtful, quality-forward approach to dressing:

  • Whistles – A natural sibling to Jigsaw in the premium British mid-market. Similar sizing logic, excellent tailoring, and a shared love of understated colour. Particularly good for workwear separates.

  • Me+Em – Brilliant for elevated basics done properly. Their sizing is consistent and the quality is genuinely impressive for the price point. A favourite recommendation of mine for capsule wardrobe building.

  • Hobbs – Another strong British option for classic, well-proportioned dressing. Particularly good for occasionwear and tailoring. Runs true to size with a slightly more conservative cut than Jigsaw.

  • Reiss – A step up in price but excellent for occasion and evening pieces. Their tailoring is sharper and the fit is reliably accurate once you know your Reiss size.

  • Phase Eight – Especially good for occasionwear and dresses. Their sizing runs slightly generous, similar to Jigsaw, and the fit is generally kind to a range of body shapes.

  • Massimo Dutti – For when you want a slightly European sensibility — sleeker cuts, beautiful fabrics, and sizing that typically runs true-to-size for a UK customer once you account for European sizing conversions.

  • The White Company – Exceptional for knitwear, layering pieces, and anything for a more relaxed weekend wardrobe. Sizing is consistent and reliable. A safe pair of hands.

  • Mint Velvet – If you love Jigsaw's relaxed-but-polished aesthetic, Mint Velvet delivers a very similar energy with slightly more print and texture. Sizing tends to be generous — size down if in doubt.

And two brands I genuinely love that fly a little more under the radar:

  • Brora – A Scottish luxury brand producing some of the finest cashmere available at reasonable prices. If Jigsaw's knitwear speaks to you, Brora is the next natural step. Their sizing runs true to UK standard and the quality honestly defies the price tag.

  • Ghost – A gorgeous, underrated British brand with an exceptional talent for fluid, bias-cut dresses and occasionwear. Sizing runs slightly relaxed — true to size for most, but I'd recommend sizing down in dresses if you prefer a more defined silhouette.

Quick Verdict: Jigsaw Sizing

Overall: True to size, occasionally slightly generousBest for: UK 6–18, women who value quality, consistent sizing, and understated styleWatch out for: Longer leg lengths in trousers; knitwear can run roomyTip: Always check model height on product pages — it's listed and it matters
