What Is Sizing Like at Loewe Menswear?

Loewe menswear runs slightly large through the top half and true to size below the waist. The house cuts its tops, knitwear and outerwear with deliberate, sculptural volume, so if you want the silhouette the designers intended, take your usual size. If you'd rather something closer to the body, size down one. Trousers, tailoring and footwear all sit true to European sizing — no nasty surprises there.
I've been styling men in Spanish and Italian luxury for the best part of two decades, and Loewe is one of the few houses where the fit is genuinely part of the design rather than an afterthought. Understand that and you'll never buy the wrong size again.
How Loewe sizing actually works
Loewe is a Madrid house, but the ready-to-wear is produced across studios in Italy and France, so everything is cut and labelled to EU sizing — 46, 48, 50 for tailoring, S/M/L for casualwear, and EU sizes for shoes. There's no vanity sizing and none of that British high-street generosity baked in. It's a clean European block. The thing to watch isn't the label, it's the intent: a lot of Loewe's menswear is designed to sit away from the body.
Where it runs large — and where it doesn't
Knitwear and jumpers: relaxed to oversized. Boxy, dropped-shoulder pieces are meant to look voluminous. Size down if you want a trimmer line.
Outerwear and overshirts: cut generously through the shoulder and body. Your normal size gives the designed drape.
T-shirts and sweats: relaxed. Fine as intended, or size down for a fitted look.
Trousers and tailoring: true to size, tailored waistband, limited stretch — measure your waist honestly.
Shoes: true to EU sizing. The Flow Runner and most leather styles fit as expected; only go up a half if you're between sizes.
A fit fail worth learning from
Early on I ordered a Loewe wool jumper in my "usual" medium for a client shoot, and it turned up looking like he'd borrowed his older brother's. Beautiful yarn, completely wrong proportion for what we wanted. We swapped to a small and it suddenly read as considered rather than swamped. The lesson has stuck with me ever since: with Loewe knitwear, your instinct will nearly always be one size too big.
How to style it and what's worth buying

Loewe works best when you let one relaxed piece do the talking and keep everything else quiet — a boxy jumper over slim trousers and a clean leather boot, or an overshirt worn open with a plain tee. That proportion play, volume up top and a cleaner line below, is exactly where menswear is heading right now, so these pieces earn their place. If you're only buying one thing, make it the knitwear or a leather accessory. That's where the craft really lives.
Brands to consider alongside Loewe
Quick note for the team: the brands list wasn't attached this time, so I've chosen these from experience — worth a quick check against the spreadsheet before publishing.
High street
COS — the closest high-street match to Loewe's sculptural minimalism. Relaxed cuts, a quiet palette and genuinely good volume-led basics.
Arket — Scandinavian restraint and real quality for the money, with true-to-size relaxed fits that layer well.
Independent / boutique
Studio Nicholson — architectural, volume-driven menswear that shares Loewe's proportion thinking at a friendlier price.
Universal Works — British, craft-led and full of character, with relaxed workwear cuts that sit beautifully under a coat.
Designer / luxury
Lemaire — the spiritual neighbour to Loewe: soft tailoring, considered volume and total understatement.
Bottega Veneta — if it's the leather craftsmanship you love about Loewe, this is the other house doing it just as well.
