What Is Sizing Like at Loro Piana Menswear?

Loro Piana runs broadly true to size, but it has a strong Italian accent that catches a lot of British buyers out. As a rule of thumb: the knitwear and outerwear sit relaxed and generous, so you can often size down, while the shirts, tailored trousers and anything described as "slim" run genuinely trim. Get that split right and everything hangs the way the fabric wants it to.
The Loro Piana fit, decoded by category
Knitwear — the hero of the house
Runs relaxed and roomy. The cashmere crewnecks, baby cashmere V-necks and cardigans are cut with generosity through the body, so if you're between sizes, take the smaller one.
Size feel: a Loro Piana Medium often wears closer to a soft Large elsewhere.
If you like a slightly cropped, modern line rather than the classic drape, sizing down one is usually the move.
A confession: my first Loro Piana crewneck, bought online in a hurry, was a size too big. Beautiful cashmere, wrong silhouette — I looked like I'd borrowed my father's jumper. Lovely to nap in, less lovely under a jacket. Lesson learned.
Shirts & tailoring — classic Italian, cut trim
Expect a slim-but-elegant line through the chest and waist. Roomy is not the Loro Piana way here.
Italian numeric sizing translates roughly as IT 48 ≈ UK 38" chest, IT 50 ≈ UK 40", IT 52 ≈ UK 42".
Broad-shouldered or barrel-chested? Prioritise your chest and shoulder measurement and be ready to size up one from your instinct.
Trousers — high-rise and honest
Cut high-rise and largely straight, with very little stretch, so they can nip at the waist.
Italian trouser sizes tend to run about one size smaller than the UK equivalent — worth a mental note before you commit.
Outerwear — generous, but check the shoulders
The travel and Roadster-style jackets are forgiving through the body and designed to layer over knitwear.
Shoulders are where fit lives or dies on a jacket — that's the one measurement I'd never eyeball.
The shoes: where most people slip up
Loro Piana footwear uses EU sizing, and the fit shifts by style — so don't assume one size covers the range.
Summer Walk loafers: true to size for most. Between sizes or after a snug fit? Take the half-size down.
Open Walk boots: run slightly large thanks to the soft suede and relaxed build — narrow feet should go half down.
360 Flexy Walk trainers: forgiving flexible construction, so stick to your usual size.
My Summer Walks are the pair I reach for on holiday every year. I took them true to size and they've moulded beautifully — but a client with a slim foot went half down on my advice and thanked me for it. Fit is personal; that's the whole point.
What's actually worth buying
Start with the knitwear. If you only buy one Loro Piana piece, make it a cashmere crewneck. It'll outlast trends and most of your wardrobe.
The suede loafers are a genuine forever-shoe — smart with tailoring, easy with denim.
A travel jacket earns its keep if you move around a lot and want to look pulled-together off the plane.
Brands to build around Loro Piana

Whether you're pairing pieces with your Loro Piana or want the same quiet-luxury feel at other price points, here's where I'd look — each chosen for a different reason.
High street
COS — the best minimalist knitwear and clean tailoring lines on the high street, and the closest in spirit to that pared-back Loro Piana look.
Reiss — for sharp smart-casual tailoring and shirts when you want structure without the designer outlay.
Uniqlo — the sensible entry point for cashmere. Not the same hand-feel, but a genuinely good jumper for the money.
Independent & boutique
Colhay's — British-designed, Scottish-spun cashmere and merino with a retro-luxe cut. A brilliant knitwear alternative for the Loro Piana crowd.
Luca Faloni — Italian-made cashmere and linen sold direct, so you get that Italian softness at a friendlier price.
Drake's — soft-shouldered, Italian-influenced tailoring and knitwear that layers beautifully alongside luxury staples.
Designer & luxury
Brunello Cucinelli — Loro Piana's closest philosophical cousin: understated, tactile, quietly expensive. Fit runs relaxed, much like LP.
Zegna — for Italian tailoring pedigree and their Oasi cashmere, with a slightly sharper, more structured cut.
