What Is Sizing Like at Loulou Studio?

Loulou Studio runs true to size, but with a deliberately relaxed, oversized silhouette — meaning if you prefer a more fitted look, sizing down one is often the right call. It's one of those brands where the cut does a lot of the work, and once you understand how their pieces are designed to sit on the body, getting your size right becomes much more intuitive.

I've been wearing Loulou Studio for a few years now, and I'll be honest — the first piece I bought (a linen shirt in a size M) arrived and I thought I'd ordered the wrong size. It was enormous. Turned out that was exactly the point. I sent it back, sized down to an S, and it became one of my most-worn pieces of the summer. That experience taught me a lot about how this brand thinks about fit — it's architectural, intentional, and very much designed for the contemporary wardrobe aesthetic of effortless minimalism.

The Loulou Studio Size Guide: UK & EU Conversions

Loulou Studio uses XS–L sizing across most of its range, with some pieces available in one size. Here's how their sizing maps across to UK and EU:

Tops & Shirts: The Oversized Formula

This is where the brand's oversized philosophy is most pronounced. Their shirts — particularly the linen and cotton poplin styles that they've become known for — are cut with significant ease through the body and sleeves. If you're a UK 10 who likes a relaxed fit, go true to size in an S. If you want structure and a more tailored look, definitely size down. The silk tops can also run quite wide across the shoulders, so it's worth checking the shoulder measurement if that's a concern for you.

Trousers & Skirts: Wide-Leg Heaven, But Check the Waist

The trouser situation is where I'd urge you to pay close attention. Loulou Studio's trousers are famous for their wide-leg silhouettes — truly sweeping, dramatic proportions that photograph beautifully. However, the waistbands tend to be on the relaxed side too. I'd recommend going true to size here, but if you have a smaller waist relative to your hips, you may find yourself needing a belt or a small alteration. It's a minor fix for a genuinely beautiful pair of trousers.

Their skirts — bias-cut midi styles and fluid wrap designs — tend to be more forgiving. True to size works well for the majority of these, and the fabric drape is generally very flattering across a range of body shapes.

Knitwear: Generous and Cosy By Design

Their knitwear is intentionally voluminous — think cocoon-like proportions and dropped shoulders. I'd say the majority of people should size down here unless you genuinely love an extremely oversized jumper. The quality of the yarn is exceptional and the pieces hold their shape beautifully wash after wash, which makes them worth the investment. If you're between sizes, go smaller.

Dresses: A Simpler Equation

The dresses tend to be slightly easier to size for, particularly the slip dresses and simple column styles. These have less structural ease built in, so going true to size generally works well. For the more voluminous shirt-dress styles, the same oversized logic applies — size down if you want any definition at all.

My Quick Sizing Verdict

  • For most pieces: size down one if you prefer structure or a fitted look

  • If you love oversized: go true to size

  • Knitwear: always size down

  • Trousers: true to size, but check waist measurement

  • One-size pieces: typically fits UK 8–14 comfortably

Brands With a Similar Aesthetic — At Every Budget

Loulou Studio sits at the premium-to-luxury end of the market, and the price tags reflect that. But the minimalist, relaxed-luxury aesthetic isn't exclusive to one brand. Here's where I'd shop if I were building a similar wardrobe at different price points.

High Street Alternatives

  • COS — the most obvious spiritual sibling to Loulou Studio on the high street. Architectural cuts, muted tones, and premium-feeling fabrics at accessible prices. Their linen and wide-leg trouser offering is genuinely excellent.

  • Massimo Dutti — consistently underrated for minimalist wardrobe building. Their silk blouses and tailored wide-leg trousers are exceptional quality for the price point, and the colour palette is always very Loulou-adjacent.

  • Whistles — great for fluid, easy pieces with a slightly more editorial edge. Their knitwear and slip dresses are consistently good, season after season.

  • Jigsaw — a British stalwart for relaxed, considered dressing. Their linen and cotton pieces are beautifully made and hold their shape well. Worth the slightly higher price point on the high street spectrum.

  • Mango — surprisingly strong for minimalist pieces right now. Their linen shirts and wide-leg trousers in particular are excellent bang for your buck, especially the premium Mango line.

  • Me&Em — a brilliant British brand for clean, elevated basics. The quality is noticeably above high street average and the sizing is consistent. Perfect for building a grown-up capsule wardrobe.

  • Reiss — polished, minimalist and reliable. Their satin and crepe pieces have a similar luxe-but-understated quality that Loulou Studio fans will appreciate.

Premium Alternatives

  • Totême — if you love Loulou Studio, Totême is an obvious next step. A Swedish brand with an almost identical aesthetic philosophy: oversized, minimal, quietly expensive-looking. Slightly more accessible price-wise than some designer names.

  • Aeron — a beautifully considered contemporary brand with a strong knitwear offering and relaxed silhouettes that sit in the same visual family as Loulou.

Independent & Left-Field Picks

  • Deiji Studios — an Australian-born brand that's found a devoted following in the UK for their cotton-knit sets and relaxed separates. Brilliant quality, considered sizing, and genuinely the sort of brand you discover and immediately want everything from. Very Loulou in spirit.

  • Cawley Studio — a small London-based label making beautifully cut separates in natural fabrics. Under the radar, but worn by a quiet army of women who know their stuff. Their linen and crepe pieces are outstanding.

Is Loulou Studio Worth It?

In a word: yes — if the aesthetic speaks to you. These are not impulse purchases, and I'd never recommend buying pieces at this price point without first thinking carefully about how they'll live in your wardrobe. But the quality is genuinely exceptional. The fabrics feel considered, the construction is careful, and the pieces photograph beautifully without trying too hard. For someone building a capsule wardrobe around relaxed, elevated minimalism, it's one of the most consistent brands I return to.

My advice? Start with a silk or linen top in a size down from your usual. Wear it once and you'll understand exactly why the brand has such a loyal following.
