What Is Sizing Like at Miss Sixty? Everything You Need to Know Before You Buy

Miss Sixty runs small and narrow — this is an Italian denim brand built on a very specific, body-conscious silhouette, and if you've ever ordered your usual size and found yourself fighting with the zip, you are absolutely not alone. I've been there. My first pair of Miss Sixty jeans arrived in what I confidently thought was my size, and I spent a good ten minutes convincing myself they were going to "give" a bit. They did not. They went back. Size up, and ideally check the waist measurement before you click buy — those are my two golden rules with this brand.

The Miss Sixty Aesthetic — And Why Fit Is Everything

Miss Sixty was born in Bologna in 1991 and became the cult denim brand of the early 2000s — low-rise cuts, flared legs, embroidered pockets, and that unmistakably Italian attitude that made it the brand of choice for everyone from catwalks to high streets. It went quiet for a while, but it's back and very much having a moment again, riding the wave of Y2K nostalgia that's dominated fashion for the past few seasons.

The fit is intentional and unapologetic. These are not forgiving, relaxed jeans. They're cut to be worn close to the body — slim through the hip and thigh, with that signature low waist that requires a certain amount of confidence (and, frankly, commitment). If you're between sizes, always go up. The denim has minimal stretch in the more heritage-inspired styles, although some of their newer lines do incorporate elastane for a little more give.

Miss Sixty Size Guide — EU, UK & US Conversion

Miss Sixty uses EU sizing throughout. Here's how that translates across sizing systems, along with approximate body measurements:

EU SizeUK SizeUS SizeWaist (cm)Hips (cm)24606186256–80–2648926826792278–10470952810673982910–126–87610130128791043112–148–108210732141085110

Tip: Always measure your natural waist and hips before ordering — the waist measurement is particularly important with Miss Sixty's slim, low-rise cuts. Don't rely on your usual UK dress size alone.

How Does Miss Sixty Fit Across Different Styles?

Post Image

Not all Miss Sixty pieces fit the same way, so it's worth knowing what you're buying:

  • Jeans (low-rise, slim & flared): Consistently small. Most people go up one full size from their usual UK size. The waistband is designed to sit on the hip, not the natural waist, so the waist measurement in the table above refers to your hip measurement taken at the point the jeans will actually sit.

  • Denim skirts: Similar story — cut slim through the hip, with a low rise on many styles. Size up and check the hip measurement.

  • Tops and knitwear: These run more true to size, though still on the slim side. If you prefer a more relaxed fit, go up one.

  • Jackets and outerwear: True to size to slightly small. If you're layering underneath, size up for comfort.

  • Dresses: These vary by style — bodycon cuts follow the same small-running logic as the jeans, while more relaxed silhouettes tend to be truer to size.

My Honest Sizing Verdict

I love Miss Sixty for what it is — a bold, unapologetically Italian brand with a very specific vision of how a jean should look. But I'd be doing you a disservice if I didn't say clearly: this is not a brand to buy without checking the measurements. The sizing is on the small side across the board, the fits are narrow, and the low-rise construction means that standard UK size conversions don't always hold.

My advice? Measure your hips at the point where a low-rise jean would sit (usually about 20cm below your natural waist), cross-reference with their size guide, and if you're on the cusp, size up. You'll thank me later.

If Miss Sixty Doesn't Quite Fit — Brands Worth Trying

If Miss Sixty's sizing or price point doesn't work for you, there are some brilliant alternatives depending on what you're after. I've broken these down by budget:

High Street Picks

  • Topshop — The spiritual home of the low-rise revival. Their Joni and Editor styles have a very similar slim, hip-hugging energy to Miss Sixty at a fraction of the price, and sizing tends to be more generous.

  • Urban Outfitters — Excellent for Y2K-inspired denim, with plenty of low-rise flares and straight cuts that capture a similar retro mood. Sizes feel fairly true to UK standard.

  • Mango — Their denim is consistently impressive for the price. The Mediterranean aesthetic aligns closely with Miss Sixty's Italian DNA, and they offer a good range of slim and flared styles.

  • Zara — Hits the Y2K mark well with seasonal denim edits, though sizing can vary by style. Always check the specific measurements on their product pages.

  • All Saints — For those who want something a bit edgier. Their denim leans darker and more rock-inflected but shares that fitted, body-conscious cut.

  • ASOS — The sheer breadth of their own-label denim range means you'll find low-rise, flared, and slim styles aplenty, often with detailed measurements and model comparison tools that make online sizing far less of a gamble.

  • Levi's — A classic for a reason. If you want the Italian-inspired low-rise look, Levi's 501 and their Low Pro styles are excellent alternatives with far more predictable sizing.

Independent Labels Worth Knowing

  • Nudie Jeans — A Swedish brand with serious denim credentials, organic fabrics, and a repair programme that means your jeans can last years. Their slim and straight cuts are beautifully made and sized with more consistency than many European brands.

  • Boyish Jeans — A California-based sustainable denim label that has quietly built a loyal following for its flattering, vintage-inspired cuts. Low-rise flares and straight-leg styles sit right in Miss Sixty territory, and their fit guides are unusually thorough.

Premium Options

  • Paige — Luxurious denim with brilliant stretch-recovery and flattering cuts. A go-to if you want investment-level quality with a more forgiving fit than Miss Sixty.

  • Citizens of Humanity — Considered one of the best premium denim brands on the market. Exceptional quality, consistent sizing, and a range that spans low-rise to high-waisted silhouettes.

  • Reiss — For a more polished, smart-casual denim look that steps back from the Y2K territory but offers brilliant fit and quality at a mid-luxury price point.

Luxury & Designer

  • Frame — French-Californian denim at its finest. Impeccable fabric, considered cuts, and a brand that genuinely thinks about how denim ages and moulds over time.

  • Goldsign — Founded by one of the original architects behind the premium denim boom, this LA-based brand produces some of the most technically impressive jeans available. A serious investment but genuinely exceptional.
