What is sizing like at Misspap?

Misspap runs small. If you're a true UK 10 in most high street shops, expect to order a UK 12 in nearly everything from Misspap — especially bodycon dresses, denim, blazers and anything described as "structured." Their sizing is cut for a slim, hourglass-leaning frame, and even the stretchier pieces feel snugger than your average River Island or New Look equivalent.

I've been styling clients in fast-fashion party wear for over a decade, and Misspap is one of those brands I quietly love and loudly warn about. The pieces photograph beautifully, the prices are unbeatable for a hen do or a club night, but the sizing is a bit of a minefield. Here's exactly what to expect — and how to play it.

How Misspap sizing actually fits

Misspap's official size range runs UK 4 to UK 16, though stock varies dramatically depending on the style. A few honest things to know upfront:

  • Bodycon dresses run a full size small. The slinky satin and ribbed bodycons are unforgiving and assume a defined waist-to-hip ratio.

  • Tops are often cropped even when they're not labelled that way. If you're long in the torso, factor it in.

  • Trousers and jeans are cut for slim hips. The waistband is rarely generous.

  • Blazers and co-ords run snug across the bust. Always go up a size if you're between two.

  • Knitwear is the most forgiving thanks to stretch — though sleeves tend to run on the shorter side.

Their fabrics lean heavily on viscose, polyester and elastane blends. That gives you stretch, but it also means very little structure — so any bra lines, bumps or shapewear ridges will show. It's a "smooth your foundations first" kind of brand.

My honest Misspap moments — the good and the disaster

A real fail of mine: I once ordered a black satin slip dress for a New Year's Eve party in my "usual" size and it was so tight across the bust I genuinely couldn't lift my arms above shoulder height. Cue an emergency Uber home and a slightly weepy outfit change. Lesson learned — for satin and bodycon, I now go a full size up without overthinking it.

A win: a tailored blazer dress I ordered one size up for a wedding after-party. Belted it, added strappy heels and a slicked-back low bun. It looked twice the price, and three people asked me where it was from before the night was out. So the brand can absolutely deliver — you just have to play their sizing game with your eyes open.

How to nail your Misspap order

  • Read the reviews religiously. Misspap shoppers are brutally honest about fit and almost always flag if something runs small.

  • Check the model's height and dress size in the product description and adjust accordingly.

  • Order two sizes if you're between. UK returns are free, and it's the only way to dodge the bodycon-of-doom moment.

  • Avoid white and pale shades in the cheaper jersey — they can be sheer in daylight.

Better high street alternatives

If you want a similar going-out feel with more reliable sizing and a step up in quality, these are my go-tos:

  • River Island — consistently strong on party dresses, satin slips and tailored co-ords. A Grazia fashion desk favourite for occasion pieces.

  • Oasis — beautifully feminine occasionwear, true to size, especially flattering on a curvier frame.

  • Warehouse — tailored mini dresses and slip dresses with a more grown-up edge. Sizing is true and the seams are properly finished.

  • Coast — the queen of wedding-guest and party dressing, with reliable sizing all the way up to UK 22.

  • Urban Outfitters — trend-led, similar age demographic to Misspap, but better cut, better fabric.

  • Hollister — denim and going-out tops that fit a younger silhouette without ever feeling cheap.

  • Mango — chic, polished party pieces with a continental cut. Runs slightly small, but predictably so.

Premium picks worth the splurge

Post Image

  • Reiss — for sleek satin dresses and grown-up tailoring that will last you seasons, not just one night out.

  • Whistles — minimalist evening pieces with quietly brilliant tailoring and roomy, true-to-size cuts.

Luxury / designer for the bigger moments

  • Self-Portrait — the modern going-out dress brand. Lace, satin, beautifully sharp tailoring. Worth every penny for a milestone night.

  • Norma Kamali — slinky, jersey-based pieces that flatter every figure and feel infinitely more expensive than they actually are.

Two independent gems to know about

  • Nobody's Child — a UK-based sustainable label doing pretty party dresses with proper sizing and lovely prints. A genuine, conscience-friendly alternative to the fast-fashion lot.

  • Never Fully Dressed — independent, female-founded, and brilliant on bold prints and statement event pieces. Sizing runs true and the quality is leagues above the high street average.
