What Is Sizing Like at Moda Minx?

Moda Minx runs small — and if you've ever ordered a bodycon dress from them and spent ten minutes wrestling it over your hips, you'll know exactly what I mean. As a general rule, I'd recommend sizing up by one, sometimes two sizes at Moda Minx, particularly if you're curvier or carry weight around your hips and thighs. That said, there are some nuances worth knowing before you click "add to basket."

So, What Is Moda Minx?

If you haven't come across them yet, Moda Minx is a UK-based online fashion brand that's carved out a serious niche in the going-out and occasion wear market. Think bodycon midi dresses, cutout detail tops, figure-hugging co-ords, and anything you'd reach for on a girls' night out or a special occasion. It's very much in the vein of fast fashion occasion dressing — bold, sexy, trend-led and at accessible price points.

I've ordered from Moda Minx more than once when I've been hunting for a dramatic birthday dress or a showstopper for a party. My honest verdict? The pieces look incredible on the product pages — and they can genuinely deliver when you get the sizing right. The key word there being when.

How Does Moda Minx Sizing Actually Run?

Moda Minx operates on UK sizing, but their fit is consistently on the smaller side. Here's what I've found — and what customer reviews consistently back up:

  • Bodycon and stretch dresses: Size up at least one size. The fabric has stretch, but the cut is very fitted. If you're a UK 12, order a 14.

  • Co-ord sets: Because the top and bottom are sold together, consider your largest measurement and size to that. If you're a 12 on top but a 14 on the bottom, go with the 14 for the set.

  • Plunge and cutout styles: These tend to have less give around the bust. If you're a fuller-busted woman, I'd comfortably go up two sizes here.

  • Formalwear and midi styles: These can run slightly more true to size as the silhouette is less fitted. Still, I'd check measurements carefully and err on the side of bigger if you're in between sizes.

The one time I ignored this advice (on a gorgeous emerald green wrap-style midi), I ended up with something that could have doubled as a swimsuit. Lesson learned — always size up at Moda Minx.

Tips for Getting Your Size Right

Moda Minx does publish a size guide on their website — and I'd really encourage you to use it, but use your measurements rather than your usual dress size. Here's my checklist before ordering:

  • Measure your hips at the widest point — this is usually the deciding factor with their bodycon styles

  • Check the garment's specific measurements rather than relying on the size label alone

  • If your measurements put you between two sizes, always go with the larger one

  • Read the customer reviews — Moda Minx shoppers are genuinely helpful and most will comment on fit

  • If ordering for an event, leave yourself enough time to return and reorder — their returns process is straightforward but you don't want to be cutting it fine

One thing worth noting: Moda Minx has improved its size inclusivity over the years and now stocks up to a UK 22–24 in many styles. However, the same rule applies across all sizes — go up, not down.

What Moda Minx Is Best For

In my opinion, Moda Minx is at its best for:

  • Going-out dresses and occasion wear on a budget

  • Trend-led pieces where you want a statement look without the designer price tag

  • Bodycon silhouettes if you're confident in your curves and know your measurements

  • Party season dressing — they really do nail sequins, metallics and cutout detail

Where I'd be a little more cautious? If you need something for a formal event or a wedding where fit absolutely has to be perfect first time, it might be worth looking at brands with more consistent sizing — more on those below.

High Street Alternatives If You're After a Similar Vibe

If Moda Minx's sizing uncertainty is putting you off, or you just want to explore your options, here are some brilliant alternatives across all budgets:

High Street:

  • ASOS — brilliant for occasion dresses across a huge size range, with detailed customer fit reviews that make sizing so much easier

  • River Island — consistently great for going-out dresses with genuine UK sizing that tends to be more reliable

  • Zara — if you want the sleek, fashion-forward look with more consistent sizing; their cutout and occasion pieces are excellent

  • Coast — for slightly more elevated occasion wear that holds its shape beautifully; particularly good for weddings and formal events

  • Mango — gorgeous going-out separates and dresses with a slightly more European cut; tends to run a little slim so again, check measurements

  • Phase Eight — if you want something a little more sophisticated without breaking the bank; brilliant for weddings and parties alike

  • Ted Baker — their occasion dresses are a step up in quality and the sizing is more consistent; worth the investment for a big event

Premium:

  • Reiss — tailored occasion and evening dresses with sizing that I've found to be reliably accurate and flattering across different body types

Independent Brands Worth Knowing:

  • Nadine Merabi — an independent Manchester-based label that makes absolutely stunning occasion and evening wear. Think heavily embellished, red-carpet-worthy pieces. The sizing runs slim but their customer service is excellent and they'll advise you on fit. Worth every penny for a really special event.

  • Chi Chi London — another brilliant indie label that specialises in occasion dresses, particularly for curvier women. Their sizing is more generous and consistent than Moda Minx, with a beautiful range of midi and maxi styles. A real hidden gem if you haven't tried them.

The Bottom Line on Moda Minx Sizing

Moda Minx is a fun, trend-led brand with some genuinely gorgeous pieces — but you do need to approach sizing with a bit of strategy. Size up, measure yourself first, check the garment measurements, and read those customer reviews. Do all of that, and you can absolutely find something brilliant. Skip those steps, and you might end up with something that fits like a second skin in all the wrong ways.

If you're not sure where your measurements put you across different brands, that's exactly the kind of problem Tellar was built to solve — and it's completely free to use.
