What Is Sizing Like at Morgan de Toi?

By Ella Blake — Fashion Stylist | Tellar Fashion Hub. Always Honest, Unbiased & Unsponsored.

I'll be honest — the first time I ordered from Morgan de Toi, I got it completely wrong. I'd spotted the most beautiful ruched midi dress, ordered my usual size, and when it arrived it was like it had been made for someone two inches taller and a full size smaller than me. Not a great start. But once I worked out how to shop Morgan de Toi — and it really did take some working out — it became one of my go-to brands for that effortless Parisian chic that's genuinely hard to find on the UK high street.

The key thing to understand is that Morgan de Toi is a French brand through and through. It sizes in French sizing (think 36, 38, 40, 42), the cuts lean towards a more European silhouette, and some styles do run smaller than you'd expect if you're used to UK sizing. That said, it's not a blanket "size up" situation — it very much depends on the garment. So let me break it down properly for you.

How Does Morgan de Toi Sizing Compare to UK Sizes?

As a starting point, Morgan de Toi's French sizing broadly maps to UK sizes like this:

  • French 36 = approximately UK 8

  • French 38 = approximately UK 10

  • French 40 = approximately UK 12

  • French 42 = approximately UK 14

  • French 44 = approximately UK 16

But those conversions are a starting point, not a guarantee. Morgan de Toi's cuts often run slim through the body, particularly in fitted styles. I'm normally a UK 12 and I've had Morgan de Toi pieces fit perfectly in a 40 and others where I've reluctantly needed a 42. It genuinely is garment by garment.

💡 Ella's tip: Always check Morgan de Toi's own size guide and cross-reference your actual measurements — bust, waist, and hips — rather than just going by your usual UK size number. Their website has a detailed chart and it's absolutely worth using before you order.

Morgan de Toi Dresses — How Do They Fit?

This is where I've had the most variation, and where most people seem to get caught out. Morgan de Toi dresses are typically quite form-fitting — they're designed to skim the body rather than drape loosely — so if you're between sizes, I'd almost always recommend going up.

  • Bodycon and ruched styles: These run small. If you carry any volume through your hips or thighs, size up by at least one. The fabric has some stretch but it doesn't give as much as you'd hope.

  • Wrap dresses: More forgiving thanks to the adjustable waist tie — these tend to run true to size for most people.

  • Midi and maxi dresses: The length is designed for a taller European frame. If you're petite (under 5'4"), expect to hem or tuck — the proportions run long.

  • Mini dresses with structured bodices: Go true to size or even size down if you're smaller through the chest, as the bust sections can run slightly generous compared to a snug waist.

Morgan de Toi Tops and Blouses — How Do They Fit?

I've actually had really good luck with Morgan de Toi tops — they're more consistent than the dresses. A few things to be aware of though:

  • Fitted jersey tops and bodysuits: True to size on the whole, but if you're fuller in the bust (DD+), size up — the jersey is lovely but doesn't offer much stretch width-wise.

  • Blouses and woven shirts: These tend to be cut narrow through the shoulders. If you have broader shoulders or a fuller back, size up. The fit through the torso is usually fine but the shoulder seam placement can be unforgiving.

  • Cropped and off-shoulder styles: Generally true to size and a bit more relaxed in the cut. I've found these quite reliable.

Morgan de Toi Trousers and Skirts — How Do They Fit?

Trousers are where Morgan de Toi's French sizing really shows up. The waist-to-hip ratio assumes a smaller differential than many UK women have — so if you're curvier through the hips, pay close attention here.

  • Slim and straight leg trousers: True to size on the waist but narrow through the thigh and hip. If you're pear-shaped or have fuller thighs, size up and have them taken in at the waist if needed.

  • Wide-leg and palazzo styles: Much more accommodating — true to size for most body types and genuinely flattering. The sizing feels more relaxed and forgiving here.

  • Leather-look and coated trousers: These are absolutely gorgeous but have very little give. Size up — trust me on this one.

  • Skirts: Mini and midi skirts tend to run true to size. Elasticated waistbands on casual styles make life considerably easier.

Morgan de Toi Knitwear and Outerwear — How Do They Fit?

Good news — knitwear from Morgan de Toi is one of the easier categories to navigate. They do some beautiful oversized and relaxed knits that work well across a range of sizes.

  • Oversized knits: Genuinely oversized — you can often size down and still get a beautifully slouchy fit. I'm a 40 and a 38 works brilliantly on me in their oversized styles.

  • Fitted ribbed knitwear: True to size, but as with the tops, be mindful if you're fuller through the bust.

  • Jackets and coats: These tend to be cut quite tailored and slim. If you like to layer underneath, size up. For a sleek, close-fitting look, go true to size.

💡 Ella's tip: If you're ordering from Morgan de Toi online for the first time, order two sizes where possible and return the one that doesn't work. It saves the frustration of having to reorder and wait all over again — and their returns process is reasonably straightforward.
