What Is Sizing Like at Mos Mosh? An Honest Stylist's Fit Guide

Mos Mosh fits fairly true to size across most of its range — but with two big caveats every UK shopper needs to know before they hit "add to basket": the jeans run generously large, so you'll almost always want to size down, while the tailoring, blazers and blouses sit neat and structured, so you may want to go up if you like breathing room. Get those two rules straight and Mos Mosh becomes one of the most rewarding contemporary brands you can buy. Ignore them, and you'll be back at the Post Office queue with a returns label, which is a fate I wouldn't wish on anyone.

The honest answer: it depends entirely on the category

This is a Danish brand, and like a lot of Scandinavian labels it doesn't use a single house block across the whole collection. The denim team and the tailoring team are clearly working to different briefs, and that's exactly why so many people get caught out. I learned this the hard way: I once ordered the bestselling Naomi jeans in my "usual" number, took them out of the bag, and could practically fit a second person in the waistband. Lesson noted — with Mos Mosh denim, less is more.

Here's how the main categories actually behave:

  • Jeans & denim – Run large. The brand itself officially recommends sizing down. The Naomi, Sumner and Ashley styles are the cult heroes — brilliant structure and stretch, but take a size below your norm, especially in the regular and slim fits.

  • Blazers & tailoring – Cut sharp and close. Gorgeous on, but if you want to layer a knit underneath, size up. The Mary blazer is a desk-to-dinner workhorse worth the splurge.

  • Blouses & shirts – Slightly fitted through the bust. If you're curvier on top, going up one solves it instantly.

  • Knitwear – The most forgiving category. Dropped shoulders and relaxed bodies mean you can usually stay true to size, or even drop down for a neater line.

A quick word on their numbers

Mos Mosh uses continental European numbering rather than UK dress sizes, which trips people up before they've even thought about fit. I'm not going to bury you in a giant conversion chart here — they're a nightmare to read and rarely accurate once you factor in the size-up/size-down quirks above. The far simpler route is to know your body measurements and let a tool do the maths, which is exactly what I built Tellar to handle (more on that below).

My styling take

Mos Mosh is a capsule-wardrobe brand, not a fast-fashion one. The fabrics are weighty, the finishes are considered, and the cuts are designed to outlast trends — so it's worth getting the fit spot on rather than "near enough". My rule: buy the jeans a size down for that clean, hold-its-shape line, and buy the tailoring with a little intention about what you'll wear underneath. A perfectly fitted Naomi with a slightly oversized knit and an ankle boot is, frankly, a uniform I'd happily live in all winter.

Where else to shop for the same Scandi-contemporary fit

If you love the Mos Mosh look — elevated denim, clean tailoring, that understated Nordic polish — here's where I'd send clients across three budgets. I've picked these specifically for similar cut and quality, not just because they're well known.

High street & contemporary

  • Part Two – A fellow Danish label with near-identical Scandi minimalism; the closest like-for-like substitute on the high street.

  • Massimo Dutti – Elevated European tailoring and denim with that same grown-up finish; sizing runs continental, so it'll feel familiar.

  • Whistles – Modern, pared-back cuts and reliably good trousers; a strong shout for the tailoring side of the Mos Mosh wardrobe.

  • Me+Em – Precise, flattering and consistent sizing — ideal if Mos Mosh's category-by-category fit drives you mad.

  • Mint Velvet – Relaxed-luxe separates and easy knitwear that layer beautifully with structured denim.

  • Reiss – Sharp blazers and tailored trousers for when you want the Mary-blazer effect at a slightly gentler price.

  • Jigsaw – Quietly excellent fabrics and timeless shapes; very much the same "buy once, keep forever" energy.

  • Hush – Scandi-influenced everyday denim and easy separates with a relaxed, lived-in feel.

Premium

  • Paige – Premium Los Angeles denim with superb stretch recovery; the natural step up if you've fallen for Mos Mosh jeans.

  • Citizens of Humanity – Beautifully constructed denim in modern straight and wide-leg shapes; investment trousers that hold their line all day.

Luxury & designer

  • Max Mara – The gold standard for tailoring and coats; where to go when you want the polished Mos Mosh silhouette in luxury fabric.

  • Claudie Pierlot – French contemporary-designer pieces with a slightly more dressed-up edge for occasion tailoring.

Two independents worth knowing

  • Baum und Pferdgarten – A Copenhagen independent with playful prints and clever cuts — the fun, expressive cousin of Mos Mosh's calmer range.

  • Pieszak – A smaller Danish denim specialist (often stocked alongside Mos Mosh) doing seriously good jeans if you want something off the beaten track.
