What Is Sizing Like at Motel Rocks clothing?

If you've ever stared at a Motel Rocks bodycon dress and thought "I want that, but I have absolutely no idea what size to order" — you're not alone. I've been there more times than I care to admit. The first time I ordered from Motel, I bought my usual size 10 and spent about 20 minutes trying to wrestle myself into a satin mini dress like I was competing in some kind of lycra-based sport. Not my finest moment.

Motel Rocks is a brilliant brand. I love what they do — the retro prints, the flattering silhouettes, the festival-ready co-ords. But their sizing does have some quirks you really want to know about before you click checkout. Let me break it all down for you.

The General Vibe: Does Motel Run Small?

Yes — overall, Motel Rocks tends to run on the smaller side, particularly in anything bodycon or fitted. This is a brand built around close-fit, stretch-fabric styles, and those pieces are cut with very little ease. If you're between sizes, size up. If you're curvier through the hips and bust, I'd also recommend sizing up as a starting point.

That said, it's not a blanket "always size up" situation — it really does depend on the garment type, which I'll go through below.

Motel Rocks Dress Sizing

This is where things get interesting. Motel's dresses are iconic — slinky midis, bodycon minis, wrap styles — and sizing varies quite a bit depending on the cut.

  • Bodycon/stretch dresses: Size up at least one size. These are designed to sit tight against the body and the fabric doesn't leave a lot of room for variation. I tried a size 10 wrap bodycon and needed a 12 for comfort.

  • Wrap dresses: Generally more forgiving. True to size works well here, but if you're fuller in the bust, size up.

  • Smock/babydoll styles: More relaxed fit — true to size is usually fine, and some people even prefer going down.

  • Midi and maxi dresses: These tend to run slightly more true to size than the minis, especially the flowy, non-stretch styles.

My rule of thumb: if a Motel dress has the word "bodycon" anywhere near it, size up. You'll thank me later.

Motel Rocks Co-Ord Sizing

Co-ords are a Motel speciality and they're absolutely gorgeous — but this is another area where I'd urge caution with sizing. The cropped tops in co-ord sets are often quite short and close-fitting, and the mini skirts run tight through the hips.

  • Co-ord tops: Size up if you're anything above a B cup, or if you prefer your crop tops to sit just above rather than across the bust.

  • Co-ord skirts/shorts: Size up if you're curvier through the hips. The fabric is usually stretchy but the cut is snug.

  • Co-ord trousers: More consistent — usually true to size, but check the leg length if you're petite or tall.

Motel Rocks Tops & Bodysuits

Post Image

Motel's tops and bodysuits follow the same principle as their dresses — stretch and bodycon styles run small.

  • Bodysuits: Size up, especially if you're longer in the torso. Motel bodysuits are cut quite short and can be uncomfortable if you're between sizes.

  • Fitted tops and corsets: Size up one. These are designed to be tight — that's the look — but you don't want to be uncomfortable.

  • Smock, floaty, and oversized styles: True to size works well. These are more relaxed and forgiving.

Motel Rocks Jeans & Trousers

Motel doesn't have the deepest trouser range compared to some brands, but what they do have tends to be more consistent in sizing.

  • High-waist jeans and trousers: Generally true to size, but go up if you're curvy through the hip-to-waist ratio.

  • Wide-leg styles: True to size — these are designed to have room so sizing is less of an issue.

For reference: Motel Rocks sizes typically run from UK 6 to UK 16, with some styles going up to an 18. Always check the individual product page for the size range before ordering, as it varies by style.

My Honest Verdict on Motel Rocks Sizing

I genuinely love Motel as a brand — the aesthetic is so well-defined and the quality for the price is solid. But I'd encourage anyone new to the brand to check the size guide carefully and, when in doubt, size up. Their website does include measurements on product pages, so take two minutes to measure yourself before ordering. Your future self (the one not wrestling with a satin dress) will be grateful.
