What Is Sizing Like at MSGM?

MSGM runs small — typically by one full size — and uses Italian sizing, so if you're used to buying a UK 12 on the high street, you'll very likely need to go up to an IT 42 or even an IT 44 at MSGM. I've styled a fair few clients in this brand and almost every single one has needed to size up. Don't let that put you off, though. Get the size right and MSGM is one of the most joyful, personality-packed labels out there.
A Bit About MSGM
Founded in 2009 by Massimo Giorgetti in Bologna, MSGM sits firmly in that sweet spot between contemporary designer and luxury — bold prints, graphic patterns, a very Italian playfulness. It's the kind of brand that looks brilliant in an editorial shoot and actually holds up just as well in real life, which is why I keep going back to it season after season. It's not cheap, but it's not full-on Gucci pricing either, which makes it genuinely accessible for a treat purchase.
The aesthetic is very much maximalist — vivid colour, oversized lettering, clashing prints and a general refusal to be boring. If you're a prints-and-colour person (like me), it's absolute heaven. If you're a minimalist, look away now.
The MSGM Size Guide: Italian to UK Conversion
MSGM uses Italian sizing throughout — on everything from dresses to knitwear to trousers. Here's how that translates to UK sizes:
MSGM (IT) SizeUK SizeEU SizeUS SizeIT 36UK 6EU 34US 2IT 38UK 8EU 36US 4IT 40UK 10EU 38US 6IT 42UK 12EU 40US 8IT 44UK 14EU 42US 10IT 46UK 16EU 44US 12
On paper that looks straightforward — but here's the thing. Even within those Italian sizes, MSGM cuts its garments fitted. So a woman who is a true UK 12 should be reaching for the IT 44 rather than the IT 42. Measure yourself (bust, waist, hips) and compare to the brand's measurement chart rather than going purely by the size number.
How MSGM Fits Across Different Garment Types
Dresses: These tend to be the trickiest. MSGM dresses are often cut close to the body, especially shift-style and mini silhouettes. If you're curvier through the hips, size up without hesitation. I once squeezed into what I thought was "my size" in a MSGM shift dress and spent the whole afternoon self-consciously tugging it down. Lesson learned.
Knitwear & Sweatshirts: A little more forgiving, particularly the graphic logo sweaters that have been a signature for them in recent seasons. That said, they're still not generous. I'd still suggest checking bust measurements carefully if you're between sizes.
Trousers & Skirts: Waist and hip measurements are crucial here. MSGM's tailored trousers sit on the slimmer side through the thigh. If you're hip-led, go up a size. The skirts — particularly the pleated midi styles — have a bit more movement and can be more accommodating.
Outerwear & Jackets: The most generous category in the range. You should be able to stick to your standard translated Italian size here, though if you like to layer underneath, factor that in.
T-Shirts & Tops: Crop-cut and body-conscious more often than not. Again, sizing up is usually the right call unless you are very slender through the torso.
My Honest Stylist Tips for Shopping MSGM

Always measure before you buy. Particularly online. Their garment measurements on the product pages are genuinely useful — use them.
Size up if you're between sizes. With fitted Italian cuts, a little room is always better than fighting the zip.
Check the fabric content. MSGM uses a mix of stretch-incorporated fabrics and more rigid wovens. The stretch blends are more forgiving; the crisp cotton or structured wool pieces are not.
If you can, try in store. Selfridges and some NET-A-PORTER pop-ups stock MSGM. Trying before buying will save you the return hassle and give you a proper feel for the brand's fit on your body specifically.
High Street Alternatives to MSGM
MSGM is a splurge, and there's no shame in wanting that bold, print-heavy aesthetic without the designer price tag. Here are my top high street and contemporary picks for capturing the MSGM spirit:
Zara — Consistently brilliant for bold seasonal prints and statement dresses that carry a similar graphic energy. Hit or miss depending on the collection, but at its best it really delivers on the MSGM aesthetic at a fraction of the price.
Mango — A solid go-to for Mediterranean-influenced colour and print. Their midi dresses and tailored separates have improved enormously in recent seasons and they're a natural stepping stone from high street to the MSGM world.
Anthropologie — Brilliant for maximalists. Their prints are unique, often art-inspired, and they offer a far wider size range than most of the brands in this space. Worth every penny for the detail and quality.
Ted Baker — Known for their bold florals and punchy colour palettes, Ted Baker hits a sweet spot between playful and polished. Their occasion dresses in particular have that MSGM spirit.
Urban Outfitters — For the younger, more graphic-print side of MSGM's DNA. Great for the logo-heavy sweatshirt energy without the luxury price point.
Cos — More minimal than MSGM, but when Cos leans into colour and structure they offer beautifully made pieces with real longevity. A great counterpoint if you want investment dressing adjacent to the MSGM world.
Reiss — For when you want something with MSGM's polished, directional energy but in a more neutral palette. Their tailoring is genuinely excellent and sits in that premium contemporary space.
Whistles — A dependable choice for bold prints with a more grown-up edit. Their seasonal print dresses and blouses often rival much pricier labels for sheer wearability.
Two Independent Labels Worth Knowing
Beyond the high street, these two labels are genuinely brilliant if you love the MSGM world and want something a bit more under-the-radar:
Never Fully Dressed — A London-based independent label built entirely around the belief that bold prints and maximalist dressing are for every body. Their wrap dresses and printed midi skirts are cult items for very good reason. Inclusive sizing, brilliant prints, and a community around the brand that feels genuinely joyful.
Olivia Rubin — Another London label, this time rooted in sequins, bright colour and unapologetically fun fashion. If you love MSGM's party-ready energy, Olivia Rubin is your next discovery. Her pieces photograph brilliantly and hold their own alongside designer alternatives.
