What Is Sizing Like at Paige menswear?

So, does Paige run true to size?

By and large, Paige runs true to size, and there's a good reason for that. The brand was founded by a former fit model, so fit has been the obsession from day one — no daft vanity sizing where a 32 is secretly a 34 to make you feel better about yourself. The waist label is genuinely close to your actual waist measurement in inches.

The wrinkle — and it is a small one — is the fabric. Most of the men's range is cut from Paige's Transcend denim, which is a high-stretch blend (think a big slug of rayon and a touch of spandex alongside the cotton). It feels more like a soft trouser than rigid raw denim. That stretch is glorious for comfort, but it means two things you should know before you buy:

  • It hugs, then relaxes. Fresh out the bag they feel snug. Wear them a few hours and they mould to you. So if a pair feels merely "firm" rather than tight in the changing room, that's usually the size for you.

  • Good recovery. Unlike cheaper stretch denim, Transcend bounces back after washing rather than bagging out at the knee and seat by Wednesday. Cold wash, hang dry, and they hold their shape for years.

My genuine fashion fail here: years ago I sized down a notch in a stretch jean from another label thinking they'd "give." They did — by lunchtime they were halfway down my backside and I spent a wedding hitching them up. With Paige, resist that urge. Take your normal waist. If you're truly between sizes and want them sleek, then — and only then — size down one.

Which Paige fit suits which build?

This is where most blokes go wrong: they blame the size when it's actually the cut. Paige names their fits, and each one behaves differently:

  • Federal — their modern slim straight. Slight ease at the hip, loose through the thigh, straight from the knee down. This is the one I steer most men towards. Forgiving for muscular or fuller thighs, smart enough for the office.

  • Lennox — the signature slim. Fitted through the thigh, tapered knee to ankle. Brilliant if you're lean to athletic and want a sharp line with your trainers or Chelsea boots.

  • Normandie — a proper straight leg, relaxed from hip to hem. The grown-up choice if skinny everything has finally lost its appeal (it has, by the way).

  • Doheny — relaxed straight, looser all the way down. Bang on trend with the wider-leg shift, great over a chunkier boot.

  • Croft — super skinny, shorter rise. Only if you're slim and you know it.

One more practical note: inseams come in set lengths (commonly 30", 32" and 34"), so check the leg length on the product page, not just the waist. A Federal in a 32" inseam on a shorter chap will stack at the ankle.

Brands worth knowing — across every budget

Paige sits firmly in the premium tier (you're looking at roughly £200+ a pair in the UK). Whether you're buying Paige or building a wider denim rotation, here's where I send clients across the price spectrum.

High street: dependable and well-sized

  • Marks & Spencer — genuinely underrated men's denim. Consistent sizing, a proper range of fits, and stretch options that won't bag out. The best value true-to-size jean on the high street.

  • Next — broad waist-and-leg combinations, which matters if you're a 34W/30L and tired of guessing. Reliable, no surprises.

Independent & boutique: where the craft lives

  • Hiut Denim Co — made in Cardigan, raw selvedge, and a brand that wants you to break the jeans in yourself. Different beast to Paige's soft stretch, but if you want denim with real character and a story, start here.

  • Blackhorse Lane Ateliers — East London, raw and organic selvedge, made-to-measure options and free repairs for life. The antithesis of fast fashion and worth every penny.

Designer & luxury: Paige's true peers

  • AG (Adriano Goldschmied) — the closest comparison to Paige in feel and fit. Similar Californian stretch-denim DNA, sizes almost identically, so if you know your Paige waist you'll know your AG.

  • Nudie Jeans — Scandinavian, organic cotton, and free repairs in their shops forever. Leaner cuts and a more rigid handle, so size up if you're between.

My win to balance out that wedding disaster: I once put a fuller-thighed groom in a Federal cut rather than the slim he'd been forcing himself into. He told me later it was the first time in a decade he'd worn jeans to a party without thinking about them all night. That's the whole game — right cut, right size, then forget you're even wearing them.
