What Is Sizing Like at Pieces?

Pieces uses EU/Danish sizing which typically runs about one size smaller than standard UK sizing — so as a general rule, you'll want to size up when shopping with this brand. If you're a UK 12, you'll usually be looking at a Pieces size 40 (EU), which is broadly their equivalent. It's not a dramatic difference, but it's consistent enough that ignoring it tends to end in disappointment — and I say that from personal experience after a pair of their trousers arrived looking significantly less roomy than the photos suggested.

Pieces is a Danish brand owned by the Bestseller group — the same stable as Vero Moda, Only, and Selected Femme — so if you're familiar with any of those brands, you'll have a good sense of how the sizing works. It's a brand I've always had a soft spot for: great trend awareness, very accessible pricing, and a knack for producing the kind of easy, wearable pieces that fill the gap between fast fashion and premium high street brilliantly. But the sizing is something first-time shoppers consistently get caught out by, so let's get into the detail.

Understanding Pieces Sizing

Pieces labels its clothing in EU sizes — so you'll see labels reading 36, 38, 40, 42 rather than UK 8, 10, 12, 14. The brand's own website and most stockists (including ASOS, where Pieces is widely available) display both EU and UK equivalents, which helps. A few key things to know:

  • Pieces EU sizing runs approximately one UK size smaller — a Pieces 38 is a UK 10, not a UK 12.

  • The brand's fits tend to be designed with a Scandinavian sensibility: relatively slim through the body, with a straight or slightly relaxed cut rather than a fitted or shapely one.

  • If you're curvier or carry more volume on your hips and thighs, it's worth checking individual garment measurements rather than relying solely on the size label — the brand's cuts don't always have a lot of room through the lower half.

  • Pieces does offer some curve and plus-size options under their PCCURVY line, which is well worth knowing about if you typically shop above a UK 16.

  • Fabric matters here — jersey and stretchy fabrications are generally more forgiving; woven and structured pieces will be less so.

Use this as your starting point when shopping Pieces — and always cross-reference with the specific garment measurements where available, as fit and cut will vary by style.

Sizing by Garment Category

Pieces covers a wide range — knitwear, denim, occasionwear, accessories — and fit does vary depending on what you're buying. Here's my category-by-category take:

  • Dresses: Size up one. Pieces does a lot of its best work in dresses — smock styles, satin slip dresses, printed minis — and the cuts tend to be fairly streamlined. If you're between sizes or have a fuller bust, I'd always go up rather than down. Their satin occasionwear dresses in particular come up snugly through the bodice.

  • Tops & Blouses: Size up one as standard. Jersey tops and casual tees can work in your EU equivalent size if you like a closer fit, but anything woven, button-through, or structured will need that extra size. Their blouses can be quite slim across the shoulders, so if you're broader there, do check measurements carefully.

  • Knitwear: This is where Pieces really delivers — their knitwear is consistently well-received and excellent value. Knits have natural stretch, so your EU equivalent size usually works here. If you prefer an oversized look (very on-brand for Pieces), go up one.

  • Jeans & Trousers: Size up one, without question. Pieces denim is popular and genuinely decent quality for the price, but it runs slim — particularly through the hip and thigh. Their wide-leg and straight-leg jeans have been particularly well reviewed on ASOS; still size up, but the cut is more forgiving. Check inseam length too — Pieces tends to cut on the shorter side for a European brand.

  • Skirts: Size up one. Midi and mini skirts from Pieces tend to be cut slim through the waist and hip. Elasticated waist styles are more forgiving and can work closer to your usual EU equivalent.

  • Occasionwear & Party Pieces: Probably the category where getting the size right matters most. Satin, velvet, and embellished styles are cut with very little ease — measure yourself and use the garment measurements rather than the label alone. A well-fitting Pieces party dress is a genuine high street win; the wrong size is just frustrating.

  • Outerwear & Jackets: Size up one to two to allow for layering. Their coats and leather-look jackets are among the brand's strongest categories — good structure, great styling — but they're cut for a neat, close silhouette. Don't try to squeeze into your EU equivalent size if you're planning to wear anything underneath.

My Honest Stylist Take

Post Image

Pieces is one of those brands that punches well above its price point in terms of trend awareness and styling — honestly, some of their occasionwear is good enough that I've styled it on shoots alongside far pricier pieces and nobody's been any the wiser. The sizing quirk (EU labels, runs small) is the main thing that catches people out, but once you know to size up, it's a genuinely reliable brand to shop.

The PCCURVY line is worth a specific mention if you're a UK 18 and above — it's not as extensive as I'd like, but what's there is well-proportioned and doesn't feel like an afterthought, which can't be said for every brand's plus-size offering.

My one consistent bugbear? Inseam lengths. If you're above average height, Pieces trousers and jeans can be frustratingly short. Check the inseam measurement before you commit, particularly on wide-leg and straight-leg styles.

Similar Brands to Shop — Across All Budgets

If you love what Pieces does — trend-led, easy, wearable fashion at an accessible price — here are the brands I'd also point you towards, depending on your budget and how much sizing reliability matters to you.

High Street

  • Warehouse — One of the best value propositions on the UK high street for trend-forward womenswear. Very similar price point and aesthetic to Pieces, with the advantage of straightforward UK sizing and a consistent fit guide.

  • River Island — Bold, trend-led, great for statement pieces and occasionwear. Sizes in UK standard, which is a pleasant change from EU labelling, and tends to have more shape and curve than Pieces's Scandinavian cuts.

  • New Look — Brilliant for affordable, fashion-forward pieces — particularly their denim and occasionwear ranges. UK sizing throughout and a very good petite and tall range that Pieces entirely lacks.

  • Topshop — Still very much available online and a natural companion to Pieces for trend-led dressing. Sizing is UK standard, consistent, and well-documented.

  • ASOS — If you're already shopping Pieces on ASOS (which most UK customers do), it's worth knowing that ASOS's own-label range covers very similar territory at a comparable price point, with the considerable advantage of detailed garment measurements for every single product.

  • Mango — For a slightly more elevated, Scandi-adjacent aesthetic with a similar love of clean lines and seasonal print. Mango runs slightly small too (European sizing), so the same size-up principle applies.

  • Oasis — A great pick if you love Pieces's occasionwear and dress range. Oasis does elegant, feminine party dressing very well at a reasonable price, with UK sizing and a decent size range.

  • Coast — If you want to step up slightly in quality from Pieces for a special occasion, Coast is the obvious move. Strong on structured occasionwear and going-out dresses, UK sizing, and very reliable fit.

Independent & Niche Finds

  • In The Style — A Manchester-based independent that does exactly what Pieces does — fast-moving, trend-led, celebrity-collaborated womenswear — but with UK sizing and a genuine size inclusivity story. If you love the Pieces vibe but find the EU sizing frustrating, this is your brand.

  • Sister Jane — A London-based independent with a slightly more whimsical, maximalist take on contemporary womenswear. More distinctive than Pieces, with beautiful print work and detailing, and far better sizing consistency. A brilliant find if you want something a little more considered and individual.
