What is sizing like at Pyrus London?

By Robin Blake — Sizing Expert Stylist & Founder of TellarDate: 2026

Always Honest, Unbiased, Unsponsored & Free Content.

Pyrus London runs largely true to size but with a relaxed, generous cut — the floaty silk and viscose pieces the brand is famous for sit roomier than your average high street label, so most women take their usual UK size, and you can comfortably size down in the more voluminous styles. It's the kind of brand where you don't need to brace yourself for a nasty surprise in the changing room. If you normally buy a UK 10, you're a Pyrus Small or Medium and you'll be absolutely fine.

I've been styling clients in and out of Pyrus for years, and it's a label I genuinely reach for when someone wants print without looking like they've raided a fancy-dress box. So let me talk you through exactly how it fits, where it's forgiving, and where you actually do need to pay attention.

First, who actually are Pyrus?

Pyrus is a British premium label set up in 2005 by Ash and Lorraine Johnson, two London College of Art graduates working out of an East London studio. They're best known for silk printed blouses and floaty, flattering silhouettes in bold, painterly prints — and crucially, those prints are hand-designed in-house, which is why a Pyrus piece never quite looks like anything else on the rail. It sits in that lovely sweet spot between high street and full designer: special, but wearable.

How does the sizing actually work?

Most Pyrus pieces use lettered sizing — XS, S, M, L — rather than UK numbers, though you'll occasionally find a numbered blouse on a resale site. Here's how I translate it for clients:

  • XS tends to suit a UK 6–8

  • S sits comfortably on a UK 8–10

  • M covers a UK 12

  • L covers a UK 14

Because so much of the range is cut full and floaty, the lettered sizing is forgiving — there's built-in ease, so you're rarely caught between sizes the way you might be with a stiff, tailored brand.

Fabric is doing the heavy lifting

This is the bit people get wrong. Pyrus works mostly in silk, viscose and viscose-with-a-touch-of-stretch, and the fabric matters more than the label size. My quick rules:

  • Silk blouses and tunics: drapey and fluid. Go true to size, or size down if you want a cleaner line rather than billow.

  • Floaty printed maxi and midi dresses: the most forgiving thing they make. Choose by your bust and let the rest float.

  • Anything with a waist tie: brilliant for in-between sizes — you cinch it in to suit yourself.

  • Fitted skirts and the rare structured piece: here you should size by your hip and waist, not your top half.

A confession, since I always tell clients the truth: my first-ever Pyrus buy was a silk blouse I sized up in because I panicked about the bust — and it swamped me, sleeves past my knuckles, the lot. Lovely print, wrong call. The lesson stuck. With Pyrus, trust the floaty cut and don't over-compensate. My next buy, a printed wrap dress in my true Medium, has been in heavy rotation for three summers. Win.

My styling verdict

Post Image

Pyrus is a print-led, occasion-into-everyday brand. The silhouettes are romantic and relaxed, so if you like a sharp, body-skimming look, balance the volume — a fitted slip underneath a sheer blouse, or a belt to define the waist on a fuller dress. And because the prints are bold, let them be the hero: keep shoes and jewellery quiet. It's one of those labels that does the work for you once you've nailed the size.

If you love Pyrus, you'll love these

If Pyrus is sold out of your size, or you want the same print-forward, floaty energy elsewhere, here's where I'd send you across three price points.

High street

  • Mango — consistently strong on painterly prints and floaty dresses, and the silk-feel viscose pieces punch well above their price.

  • Whistles — the high street's go-to for a proper printed silk blouse with a grown-up, contemporary cut.

  • Hush — boho-leaning prints and easy, breezy shapes that share Pyrus's relaxed DNA.

  • Monsoon — reliably good for floaty occasion prints and embellished maxis when you want a bit of drama.

  • Boden — bold, joyful British prints with a generous, forgiving fit that's very Pyrus-adjacent.

Premium

  • Mint Velvet — relaxed-luxe separates and prints with a soft, drapey hand-feel that ages well.

  • Anthropologie — statement prints and artful, floaty silhouettes if you want something with a bit more story to it.

  • Ghost — a long-time master of the fluid, bias-cut printed dress; arguably the closest spiritual cousin to Pyrus on the high street.

  • Sezane — Parisian prints and delicate blouses with that effortless, lived-in elegance.

Luxury / designer

  • Ganni — playful Scandi prints and relaxed shapes for when you want the floaty look with a fashion edge.

  • By Malene Birger — elevated, painterly prints and beautiful silks; the grown-up designer upgrade on the Pyrus aesthetic.

Two left-field independents worth knowing

  • RIXO — the London label that built its name on hand-painted printed silk dresses; if you adore Pyrus prints, this is your spiritual home.

  • Hayley Menzies — a small British brand doing bold, maximalist printed silk and knitwear with real personality — proper conversation-starter pieces.
