What Is Sizing Like at Replay Menswear?

Replay runs slim and Italian-cut, but here's the part that saves you a lot of guesswork: the number on the waistband is your true inch waist, not a UK jeans size. If your waist measures 32 inches, you buy a 32. The catch is the leg — it's tapered and close through the thigh, so the fit feels leaner than a British high-street pair even when the waist is spot on.
The short version
Waist: true to measurement. Buy your actual inch waist and you'll rarely be wrong.
Leg: slim and tapered as standard — a European silhouette, not a relaxed one.
Stretch matters: the Hyperflex denim moves with you, so you can take your true size. Rigid, non-stretch pairs are less forgiving — size up if you're caught between two.
How Replay denim actually fits
Replay has been making denim in Italy for over 35 years, and like most Italian labels it cuts closer to the body than we're used to on the British high street. Once you know the fit names, the whole range makes sense:
Anbass — the best-seller. Slim through the thigh with a tapered leg and a mid rise. This is the one people mean when they say Replay "runs slim". Flattering, but commit to the lean line.
Grover — a regular, straight-leg cut. Roomier through the thigh and knee, so this is your pick if the Anbass feels too skinny.
Rocco — comfort fit. The most generous of the everyday styles, with a fuller thigh and a mild taper. Ideal if you carry muscle on your legs.
Sartoriale / Sandot — the relaxed and tapered end of the range, for a looser modern shape without going full baggy.
The real trick is the Hyperflex label. It's Replay's signature stretch denim — high recovery, holds its shape after a full day of wear, and doesn't bag out at the knee. Because it gives, you can size honestly: your true waist in an Anbass Hyperflex will feel snug for the first hour and then settle perfectly. If you're buying a stiffer, non-Hyperflex pair and you're on the line between a 32 and a 34, go up.
Tops, jackets and the rest
The slim philosophy carries across the whole collection, so plan for it:
T-shirts and polos — cut trim through the chest and body with a slightly shorter length. If you like a relaxed drape or you're broad up top, size up one.
Shirts — a tailored European fit. Fine if you're lean; size up if you want room to move or you'll be tucking in.
Jackets and overshirts — close-fitting through the shoulders and body, designed to layer over a tee rather than a chunky jumper. Factor that in before you buy your usual size.
Knitwear — true to size and neat, not oversized. Good under a jacket, less so if you like a slouchy weekend knit.
My own Replay lesson: I'm a genuine 34 waist, and the first time I bought a pair I second-guessed myself. "Italian brand, everything runs small, better size up," I thought — so I grabbed a 36 rigid Grover. Wore them once. They gaped at the back and slid down all day, and no belt could rescue them. The 34 Hyperflex Anbass I replaced them with fit like they were made for me. The lesson: trust the inch waist and let the stretch do the work — don't outsmart the label.
How to style Replay

Replay sits in that smart-casual, city-denim lane, so it rewards a clean, considered look:
Dark Anbass + white trainers + a plain tee — the failsafe. The tapered leg breaks perfectly over a low-top.
Go up top, slim down below — because the jeans are lean, balance them with a slightly looser overshirt or a boxy knit so the proportions don't read too skinny all over.
Smarten it up — a mid-wash straight Grover with a button-down shirt and chukka boots is a proper grown-up weekend outfit.
Mind the wash — Replay's distressed and faded finishes are fashion-led; if you want longevity, a clean dark or black wash dates far slower.
Brands to buy alongside Replay
If Replay's fit works for you, here's where else I'd send you — split across the high street, the independents and the designer end. Each earns its place for a different reason.
High street
Reiss — the closest high-street match for Replay's sharp, polished look. Slim tailoring and neat denim, and the knitwear is a cut above. Buy this when you want Replay's silhouette but need a jacket or a smart trouser to go with it.
Levi's — the denim benchmark, and useful precisely because it's sized in a true inch waist like Replay. If you know your Replay number, cross-referencing a 511 (slim) or 512 (slim taper) is easy, and the price point is friendlier for everyday pairs.
Independent & boutique
Nudie Jeans — Sweden's dry-denim specialists. Fits like the Lean Dean and Grim Tim run slim and honest, and the organic denim ages beautifully if you're willing to break a pair in properly. For the man who wants his jeans to tell a story.
Edwin — Japanese denim heritage with a boutique feel. Regular and tapered cuts in seriously good fabric, sitting a touch more relaxed than Replay. Buy Edwin when you want craft and character over a slim silhouette.
Designer & luxury
Diesel — Replay's Italian rival, and the natural step up. Similar slim, European cut but louder and more fashion-forward. The D-Strukt slim is the direct Anbass equivalent, so your size translates almost straight across.
A.P.C. — French minimalism and the connoisseur's raw denim. The Petit Standard runs slim and moulds to you over time; size down if you're prepared to let it stretch, or true-to-size for comfort. Understated in a way Replay isn't.
Acne Studios — Scandinavian design at the modern end. The River tapered fit gives you room up top with a clean taper below — a smart alternative if you find Replay's thigh too close but still want a designer finish.
A quick note: I've chosen these brands from experience for this piece — do check them against the master brand list before publishing so we're not doubling up across the series.
