What Is Sizing Like at Roxy? Your Complete Fit Guide

Roxy sizes small in swimwear — particularly through the hips and bottoms — but runs true to size across most of its lifestyle and outerwear range. That's the short answer. The longer answer is a bit more nuanced, and honestly, it's cost me a parcel return or two to figure it out the hard way.
Quick tip: if you'd rather skip the guesswork entirely, head straight to Tellar's free Store Size Lookup tool — it matches your exact measurements to Roxy and 1,500+ other brands in seconds.
Why Roxy Sizing Can Trip You Up
Roxy is a US-founded brand, born from the surf culture of California in 1990. That matters for sizing because their base measurements are built around American sizing conventions, which don't always sit perfectly with standard UK or European frames. I've had clients who are a solid UK 12 in everything else reach out baffled that their Roxy bikini bottoms arrived feeling two sizes too small — and they weren't imagining it.
The brand also uses a mix of sizing systems depending on the product category. You'll see XS–XL on most apparel, numeric sizing on some denim and board shorts, and completely separate charts for swimwear, wetsuits, and outerwear. That inconsistency is the main culprit behind most sizing errors — people assume what fits in one category will translate across the board, and it simply doesn't.
Roxy Swimwear Sizing — Size Up
This is the one area where I'd consistently say: go a size up. Roxy bikinis and swimsuits are cut with a fairly athletic, surf-ready fit in mind — minimal coverage, snug through the hips, and quite high-cut on the leg. If you have curvier hips or a fuller bust, you're almost certainly going to want to size up from your usual. I learned this the very first time I ordered their Roxy Aruba bikini set — beautiful piece, but the bottoms were comically optimistic about my hip situation.
Bikini tops: If you're between sizes or fuller in the bust, size up. The underwired styles run particularly snug.
Bikini bottoms: Size up if you carry more volume on the hips. The cut is designed for an athletic, slim-hip frame.
One-pieces: These tend to be more forgiving. Most customers find them true to size, though again, petite women or those with a short torso may find the body length a touch long.
Roxy Clothing & Lifestyle Apparel — Generally True to Size
Outside of swimwear, Roxy's clothing range is pretty reliable. Their hoodies, sweatshirts, and joggers are designed to be worn with a bit of room — they're surfer-girl cool, not fitted suiting — so if anything, these can run slightly generous. I've seen people size down on the oversized hoodies and be very happy with the result.
Hoodies & sweatshirts: True to size, or size down if you prefer a more fitted look. The drop-shoulder styles are intentionally oversized.
T-shirts & vest tops: Generally true to size, with a relaxed surf-brand fit rather than a structured one. Not particularly generous through the chest.
Dresses: These vary. Their casual beach dresses are roomy; the more structured styles track closely to UK sizing. Always check the product-specific size guide.
Jeans & trousers: Roxy's denim is American-influenced. Waist sizing tends to come up small. If you're between sizes, I'd size up.
Roxy Outerwear & Snow Gear — True to Size, Allow for Layers
Their ski and snow jackets are generally true to size, but the brand advises (and I'd agree) that if you plan to layer underneath — which, for skiing, you absolutely will — consider sizing up. Roxy's ski pants have also been flagged by several customers as running snug at the waist relative to the hip measurement. If you're pear-shaped or have an athletic lower body, size up on the bottoms even if the jacket fits perfectly.
Roxy Wetsuits — Measure Carefully

Wetsuits are their own beast entirely. A Roxy wetsuit needs to be snug — it's designed to trap a thin layer of water that your body warms up. Too loose and it's useless; too tight and you'll be exhausted after 20 minutes in the water. Roxy uses both height and weight as well as chest and hip measurements for their wetsuit sizing. I'd strongly recommend using Tellar's size lookup here rather than guessing, or requesting a returns policy before you buy.
High Street Alternatives to Roxy
If Roxy's sizing is causing you grief — or you just want something at a slightly lower price point without losing that coastal, active energy — there are some genuinely brilliant high street options:
Fat Face — a brilliant British coastal lifestyle brand with a brilliant range of swimwear, knitwear, and casual everyday pieces. Sizing is consistently true to UK sizes. A personal favourite for the beach-to-pub look.
Seasalt Cornwall — ethical, beautifully made, and built for real British coastal life. Their swimwear and casual clothing are generous in sizing and very flattering on a range of body types.
Hollister — if you love Roxy's Californian surf-cool energy, Hollister delivers it at a high street price point. Their bikinis and casual tees are well-priced and reliable in sizing.
Superdry — strong technical outerwear and hoodies with that slightly sporty edge. Their sizing is generally reliable, though their hoodies can run large.
Abercrombie & Fitch — they've dramatically improved their sizing inclusivity in recent years. Great for casual coastal-inspired loungewear and denim.
Urban Outfitters — excellent for the laid-back, festival-surf crossover aesthetic. Their swimwear section often stocks some genuinely great Roxy-esque styles.
All Saints — if you want Roxy energy with a slightly more elevated, edgier wardrobe, All Saints nails the relaxed-cool brief. Their leather and suede pieces are exceptional quality.
Levi's — for the denim element of the Roxy lifestyle wardrobe, Levi's is unbeatable. Classic, well-made, and their sizing is one of the most consistent on the high street.
Premium Alternatives
Patagonia — the gold standard for ethical, technical outdoor and surf clothing. More expensive than Roxy, but built to last considerably longer. Their wetsuits and fleeces are exceptional.
Protest — a Dutch surf and snow brand that's grown enormously in the UK market. Premium quality at a slightly more accessible price point than Patagonia. Their ski pants are particularly well-reviewed.
Luxury & Designer Alternatives
Perfect Moment — ski and resort wear that sits beautifully at the intersection of luxury sportswear and runway fashion. Worn by the chic Aspen and Val d'Isère set, and genuinely worth the investment if skiing is your thing.
Arc'teryx — Canadian luxury technical outerwear at its absolute finest. If you want the best-performing, most beautifully made outdoor jacket money can buy, this is it. An investment, but a serious one.
Two Independent Brands Worth Knowing
Finisterre — a Cornwall-based surf and sea swimming brand that I genuinely love. Fully ethical, sustainably made, and designed for cold British waters rather than California sunshine. Their women's wetsuits and swimwear are some of the best on the market for UK bodies and UK sea temperatures. A very special brand.
Passenger Clothing — another independent British label built around the outdoor lifestyle. Their organic cotton tees, hiking trousers, and fleeces have a brilliant relaxed-cool quality to them, and their sizing tends to be more generous and UK-friendly than Roxy's.
