What Is Sizing Like at Rudsak? An Honest Stylist's Guide

Author: Stylist at TellarDate: 2026

The short answer: Rudsak runs small and is deliberately cut to a fitted, body-skimming silhouette, so most people are safest sizing up — especially across the shoulders, arms and bust. If you usually live in a UK 12, there's a very good chance your Rudsak size is the next one up once you factor in layering. It's a Canadian outerwear brand built for proper cold, and that tailored line is a design choice, not a fluke. Below I'll talk you through exactly how it fits, where it gets tricky, and how to nail your size first time.

So, does Rudsak actually run small?

Yes — and Rudsak is fairly upfront about it. The brand's whole design vision leans towards a close, tailored fit, and their own guidance tells you to err larger rather than smaller if you fall between two sizes. In years of dressing clients, I've found their pieces consistently come up snug in the places that matter most for outerwear:

  • Shoulders and arms — the most common pinch point. Rudsak's sleeves are cut lean, so if you've got broader shoulders or like a chunky jumper underneath, that's where you'll feel it first.

  • Bust — leather and structured styles in particular sit close, which looks beautiful done up but can feel restrictive zipped to the neck.

  • Hips — generally more forgiving, especially on the puffers and longer coats.

The brand uses standard North American sizing (XS to XXL), which already nudges differently from UK and EU charts — another reason the "I'm always a Medium" logic can let you down here.

It really depends what you're buying

This is the bit most size guides skip. Rudsak now cuts across five distinct silhouettes — Fitted, Semi-Fitted, Regular, Relaxed and Oversize — so the same person can genuinely be different sizes within the same brand. I've had clients who are a Large in the down puffers but a Medium in the knits, and that's completely normal.

  • Leather jackets and biker styles — the snuggest of the lot. Sized for a sharp, fitted line. Gorgeous over a fine-knit or shirt, but don't expect to layer a thick jumper underneath without sizing up.

  • Down puffers and parkas — mostly cut Regular and flagged as running small, so I'd size up if you want room for winter layers. A few of the cropped styles do come up true to size.

  • Knitwear and lighter layers — these are a newer part of the range and generally truer to size, though they can shrink if you're careless with the wash.

  • Footwear — tends to run narrow, so worth a half-size think if you're between.

A fit win and a fit fail (both mine)

The fail first, because it's more useful. Years ago I ordered a Rudsak puffer in my "usual" size without thinking, purely because I was in a rush before a shoot. It arrived and the body was lovely — but the shoulders were so trim I couldn't get a blazer underneath, which was the entire point. Lesson learned: with Rudsak, never autopilot your size.

The win came later, styling a client into one of their leather bikers. She's typically a UK 10, and I deliberately took her up a size so it would sit cleanly over a silk cami and a slim roll-neck. It fit like it had been made for her — that close, expensive-looking line Rudsak does so well, with just enough give to actually move. Same brand, two completely different outcomes, and the only variable was getting the size right.

How to get your Rudsak size right first time

Post Image

  • Measure yourself — bust, waist and hip, with a soft tape, parallel to the floor. Don't guess from a number on a label.

  • Check the silhouette on the product page. "Fitted" or "Semi-Fitted" means size up if you're between or planning heavy knits; "Regular" or "Relaxed" you can usually take true to size.

  • Think about layers. A coat you'll wear over jumpers needs that extra room built in.

  • Mind the arms. If you only check one thing, check the sleeve and shoulder fit — that's where Rudsak catches people out.

Where else to shop for that fitted-coat look

If you love Rudsak's edgy, tailored outerwear but want options across budgets, these are the brands I steer clients towards — rotated by what each does genuinely well.

High street and accessible:

  • AllSaints — the obvious like-for-like for that biker-leather, slightly rebellious energy, at a friendlier price.

  • Barbour — if it's proper weatherproof, country-leaning outerwear you're after, nobody does a wax jacket better.

  • Mango — brilliant for affordable leather and trench styles that punch well above their price.

  • COS — clean, minimalist wool coats with that quiet, architectural line.

  • Massimo Dutti — leather and tailored coats with a real premium feel for the money.

  • The North Face — when you want genuine technical warmth in a puffer over fashion-first styling.

  • Reiss — polished, grown-up tailoring and sleek leather jackets that sit beautifully under a smart wardrobe.

Premium contemporary:

  • Zadig & Voltaire — rock-edged leather that shares Rudsak's slightly daring DNA.

  • Sandro — Parisian tailoring and coats with a precise, refined cut.

  • By Malene Birger — Scandinavian outerwear with elegant proportions and gorgeous fabrics.

Luxury and designer:

  • Max Mara — the gold standard for an investment camel or wool coat that lasts a lifetime.

  • Totême — minimalist, expensive-looking coats with a cult following for good reason.

Two off-the-radar independents worth knowing:

  • Stand Studio — a Scandinavian label that's quietly become the name for faux-leather and faux-fur jackets, with a fashion-forward edge that rivals the big outerwear houses.

  • Holland Cooper — a British brand doing beautifully tailored coats and elevated country outerwear, perfect if you want that polished, structured silhouette with a homegrown story.
