What Is Sizing Like at Saint & Sofia?

Saint & Sofia runs true to UK size across most of its collection, which is genuinely great news — but there are a few specific styles where I'd urge you to size up, and I'll walk you through exactly which ones below.

I first discovered Saint & Sofia a couple of years ago when I was hunting for something for a friend's garden wedding — you know that nightmare brief: smart but not stuffed into a suit, feminine without being overdressed. I stumbled across one of their satin-finish midi dresses, ordered my usual size 12, and it was pretty much perfect out of the bag. Since then, I've styled a handful of clients in the brand and my experience has been consistent — this is one of those labels where the sizing is actually reliable, which, honestly, cannot be said for everyone.

The brand was founded in London and quickly built a following for its sharp tailoring, elevated fabrics, and that particular balance of feminine and polished that's genuinely hard to find at the price point. It sits firmly in the contemporary premium space — not a high-street impulse buy, but far more accessible than designer. Think Reiss or ME+EM territory in terms of quality and positioning.

The Size Range

Saint & Sofia offers UK sizes 4 to 18 across most of its core collection, which is a solid range. The brand caters primarily to a UK fit model, so if you usually shop UK high street, you're in familiar territory. Here's the full size conversion chart to help if you're shopping from the EU or US:

Sizing by Garment Type

Here's where things get a bit more nuanced — because "true to size" isn't the whole story when it comes to specific silhouettes. Here's what I've found in practice:

  • Dresses: Generally true to size and beautifully cut. Their midi and wrap dresses in particular tend to be very forgiving and flattering. If you're between sizes, go with your usual — the fabric has enough give to accommodate.

  • Blazers & tailored jackets: These can run slightly fitted through the shoulders and chest. If you're broader across the back or have a fuller bust, I'd recommend sizing up by one. I learned this the hard way with a client who's a standard 14 — we had to exchange for a 16 in the blazer because the seams were pulling slightly across the back.

  • Trousers & wide-leg styles: True to size and generously cut through the leg. The wide-leg and tailored trouser styles are particularly good — high-waisted and well-proportioned. Stick to your usual.

  • Knitwear: Slightly relaxed fit on most styles — true to size or even a touch generous. If you prefer a more fitted look, consider sizing down by one.

  • Tops & blouses: Consistent and reliable. The satin and silk-feel blouses tend to be cut to a standard UK fit — no surprises here.

  • Occasion and evening wear: The more structured styles — think boned bodices or corseted cuts — can feel snug through the torso. Always check the specific measurements and, if in doubt, size up. You can always take in fabric; you can't add it.

Fabric & Fit Notes

One thing that makes Saint & Sofia particularly appealing is the fabric quality at the price point. A lot of their pieces use satin, crepe, and jersey blends that drape beautifully without feeling cheap. The good news for sizing is that drapey fabrics tend to be more forgiving than rigid wovens — so you've got a bit more latitude than you would with, say, a stiff cotton blazer.

That said, if you're shopping their more structured tailoring — double-breasted coats, fitted blazers — I always advise clients to measure their bust and compare against the brand's size guide rather than just defaulting to their usual number. It takes two minutes and saves a return headache.

Petite, Tall & Plus Sizing

Post Image

Saint & Sofia doesn't currently offer a dedicated petite, tall, or plus-size range, which is a genuine limitation. The brand's standard sizing goes to a UK 18, and length-wise, their dresses and trousers are cut for an average UK height (around 5'6"). If you're petite, their midi lengths will likely fall closer to maxi on you — something to be aware of before you order. Tall shoppers, meanwhile, may find cropped styles a touch shorter than expected.

Similar Brands to Consider

Saint & Sofia occupies a lovely but specific niche — elevated, feminine, contemporary. If you love the aesthetic but want more sizing options, more price flexibility, or simply want to compare, here are my picks across different tiers:

High Street Options:

  • Reiss — The closest high-street match to Saint & Sofia in terms of polish and cut. Their tailoring is excellent and sizing is very consistent.

  • Whistles — Understated, grown-up, great quality fabrics. Particularly strong on workwear and occasion pieces.

  • Me&Em — British brand with a very similar aesthetic: elegant, wearable, and built to last. Sizing is reliable and they do a good petite range.

  • Phase Eight — Particularly strong for occasion wear and special events. Feminine, polished, and widely available sizing.

  • Hobbs — Classic British tailoring with a similar elevated-but-not-designer feel. Excellent for blazers and tailored dresses.

  • Jigsaw — Thoughtful fabrics, timeless cuts. A good option if you love Saint & Sofia's more minimal pieces.

  • LK Bennett — The go-to for smart dresses and occasion-ready looks. Very similar customer base and aesthetic DNA.

Premium Options:

  • Ted Baker — Feminine and polished with a strong print and occasion-wear game. Often on sale via department stores.

  • Mint Velvet — Relaxed-luxe and easy to wear. Particularly good if you want the elevated look without strict tailoring.

Independent Picks (my left-field recommendations):

  • Baukjen — A brilliant British independent brand focused on sustainable, beautifully cut womenswear. The quality is genuinely impressive and the sizing is consistent and clearly laid out. If you don't know them, add them to your radar immediately.

  • Finery London — One of those quietly brilliant brands that never gets enough credit. Feminine, London-designed, and particularly good on print dresses and elevated basics. Sizing is standard UK and very reliable.
