What Is Sizing Like at Saks Potts?

Always Honest, Unbiased, Unsponsored & Free Content.

Saks Potts comes up true to size on the label, but almost everything is cut with that relaxed, slightly oversized Scandi line — so the number on the tag matters far less than your actual measurements. If you want the effortless Copenhagen slouch the brand is famous for, stick to your usual size. If you’d rather a neater, sharper silhouette on the leather and shearling pieces, you can comfortably size down by one.

I’m Ella Blake, Senior Fashion Stylist & Founder of Tellar, and I’ve dressed clients in Saks Potts more times than my own coat budget would like to admit. It’s one of those labels people fall hard for — and then panic over, because a £1,500 coat is not a piece you want to get wrong online. So let me talk you through exactly how it fits.

A quick word on the sizing system

Saks Potts uses two different systems depending on the piece, which catches almost everyone out:

  • Ready-to-wear (knits, tops, dresses, trousers) usually runs XS–XL.

  • Signature outerwear — the iconic Foxy shearling and the faux fur coats — often comes in numeric sizing, roughly 0, 1, 2 and 3.

  • As a loose guide, a 0 sits around an XS, a 1 around a small, a 2 around a medium and a 3 around a large — but check the measurements for each individual coat, because they genuinely vary by style.

The brand is Copenhagen-born (launched in 2014 by Cathrine Saks and Barbara Potts), and like a lot of Scandi labels it’s designed for an easy, lived-in fit rather than a nipped-in one.

How the coats and outerwear fit — the bit that really matters

This is what Saks Potts is built on, so it’s the part to get right:

  • The Foxy shearling and the faux fur coats are designed with an oversized, cocoon shoulder. They’re meant to sit away from the body and drape.

  • True to size gives you that thrown-over-everything look with room for a chunky jumper underneath — exactly the point of the piece.

  • Size down by one if you’re petite or want a cleaner, more fitted line. The generous cut can genuinely swamp a smaller frame.

  • Cropped puffers and boxy jackets run short and wide. Buy for your shoulders, not your chest, or you’ll get the dreaded marshmallow effect.

  • Leather pieces fit closer and truer to size. Resist the urge to size up “for layering” — leather gives as you wear it.

A confession: early in my career I talked a client into sizing up on a faux fur “for the jumper underneath”, and she ended up looking like she was being gently eaten by a bear. Lovely coat, wrong size. With Saks Potts, the oversized look is already engineered into the pattern — you don’t need to add to it. If you want a deeper dive on coat silhouettes and how they should sit on different frames, my Ultimate Guide to Jackets walks through it properly.

Knitwear, tops, trousers and dresses

  • Knits are generous and relaxed. True to size for that slouchy look, or size down if you like them neat.

  • Trousers lean wide-leg and high-waisted — go by your waist measurement, because the leg has plenty of room. If denim is more your day-to-day, my jeans trends for 2026 guide is worth a look.

  • Dresses follow the same easy Scandi line — unstructured and forgiving, so true to size works for most. For more on matching dress styles to your shape, see my ultimate guide to dresses.

So who is Saks Potts actually for?

Post Image

Honestly? It’s for the statement dresser — the woman who wants her coat to do the talking and isn’t afraid of colour. If your wardrobe is all sharp, minimal tailoring, the relaxed shoulder might feel like a lot. But if you love an investment piece with personality, a Foxy coat will be the thing people stop you about in the street for years.

If Saks Potts is over budget — where I’d shop instead

Those coats are a serious investment, so here’s where I send clients for the same energy at every price point.

High street

  • Mango — consistently the best high street name for faux fur and statement coats; their seasonal outerwear punches well above its price.

  • Massimo Dutti — grown-up leather and shearling-look pieces with a genuinely luxe finish.

  • Whistles — clean leather jackets and elevated wool coats for a more pared-back take.

  • Reiss — sharp, tailored coats if you want polish rather than drama.

  • Ted Baker — the high street go-to for bold colour and print, very in the Saks Potts spirit.

  • Hush — easy, Scandi-ish knits and relaxed coats that layer beautifully.

  • Mint Velvet — lovely faux fur and soft-luxe outerwear at a friendly price.

Premium & contemporary

  • Ganni — the obvious neighbour; a fellow Copenhagen label that’s playful, cool and similarly print-happy.

  • By Malene Birger — Danish too, but more grown-up and tailored for a refined version of the look.

  • Sandro — French structure and beautiful leather if you want a sleeker silhouette.

Luxury & designer

  • Toteme — Scandi minimalism done exquisitely; gorgeous wool and leather outerwear that lasts.

  • Max Mara — the coat authority. The investment piece you’ll still be wearing in twenty years.

And two you might not know — my left-field picks

  • Stand Studio — a brilliant Swedish label doing faux leather and faux fur that feels remarkably Saks Potts-adjacent, at a far friendlier price.

  • Stine Goya — another Copenhagen name, all joyful colour and print, perfect if it’s the bold Saks Potts palette you’ve really fallen for.
