So, does Sea New York actually run true to size?

Yes and no, and it genuinely depends on the silhouette:

Fitted styles (sheath dresses, lace bodices, anything described as "body-skimming") — true to size, occasionally a touch snug through the bust. If you're a fuller cup, stay in your regular size rather than sizing down.
Voluminous styles (tiered prairie dresses, billowing puff sleeves, smock tops) — these run roomy. Sizing down one is very often the move, especially if you don't want to be swallowed whole.
Tops and blouses — usually relaxed and forgiving, so your normal size is safe unless you like a neater line.

One more thing UK shoppers always need reminding of: Sea uses US numeric sizing (00 up to 12). A US 4 lands around a UK 8, a US 8 around a UK 12 — roughly add four. Get that wrong and you'll be sending it straight back, which with an American brand and international returns is a faff worth avoiding.

The fabric factor (this is where people get caught out)

Sea leans heavily on crisp, woven cottons and structured lace, and most of it has little to no stretch. That changes the game. Mind the zips. Several styles have hidden back zips set into delicate lace, so you'll want a fixed size rather than something you have to wrestle.

A win and a fail, from my own wardrobe

The fail first, because it's more useful. I once bought a Sea tiered midi in my "safe" size for a summer wedding, took it on faith, and turned up looking like I'd borrowed it from a much taller friend — yards of lovely fabric, zero structure, all of it drowning me. Lesson learned: on the floaty pieces, size down. The win? A simple Sea broderie blouse I bought in my true size three summers ago that has been on heavy rotation ever since — tucked into jeans, knotted over a slip dress, layered under a blazer.
